Staying near Eden project. Weather not forecast to be great. Not paying £29 for the Eden Project. And all national trust houses are closed.

We also used to go to the seal sanctuary - not sure where. But all my suggestions cost money.

Babamamananarama · 26/07/2020 20:48

Glad you enjoyed Meva.

Heligan is glorious and well worth a trip - more so than Eden I'd say.

If you want some stunning scenery, try chapel porth beach and walk up the path to the right if you are looking at the sea, up the coastal path to the deserted tin mine.

In normal times Falmouth is lovely for a poke around the antique shops and little boutiques and some incredible food options - not sure what is open currently.

Gorran Haven (I think) you can order a great pizza in the place near the beach and eat it on your lap overlooking the sea.

I was going to suggest a wander round Fowey too, but maybe not if it's that busy! It's my very favourite place too @YoureAllABunchOfBastards.

OctoNope · 26/07/2020 21:06

I live in Cornwall.

Paradise Park is lovely. I take my DD often but really it's for me! The macaws just fly free all day, it's incredible. And the flamingos also have free roam. Surprisingly not busy at the moment.

Trevaunce Cove is stunning.

Godrevy, to spot seals. There's actually a "secret" cove near the lighthouse where you can watch the seals. It's beautiful.

Second Chapel Porth

A long drive but Porthcurno is worth doing

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 26/07/2020 21:14

Hope the weather improves for you. Its tricky down here having to plan in advance even in a normal year. How about a kayak or SUP expedition on the river? Places to hire & guided tours from Golant & Fowey.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 26/07/2020 21:17

Theres also the stunning new bridge at Tintagel. Requires booking though.

MinnieAnonyMouse · 26/07/2020 21:24

Hidden Valley is really good fun - think treasure hunt meets crystal maze. DH and I went last year (no kids) and spent the entire day.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 26/07/2020 21:27

I do like going underground too - geevor, carnglaze, poldark mine - or looking round some random galleries & potteries- not sure exactly what is open though.

Yes! Awesome day out!
Toddlerteaplease · 27/07/2020 21:19

Is there much in Penzance? Thinking of getting the train there, and then a bus to Mousehole. But if there not enough for a full day I'll drive and go to Trebah on the way back.

I'd say Penzance itself, prob not. But you're very near Marazion and St Michael's Mount, a lovely walk along Mount's Bay.
Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens are nice, and the National Dahlia Collection is in Ludgvan. But for all of these it's handy to have a car...
Not sure if the National Dahlia Collection is open yet...

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 27/07/2020 22:14

Not forgetting Jubilee Pool of course...
I would potentially venture out from St Erth to St Ives on the train, if I wasn't bothered by crowds...

MysteryParcels · 27/07/2020 22:15

I think I'd head to the coast and watch for dolphins 🐬

EvilPea · 27/07/2020 22:21

I LOVE hidden valley.
Although each year they make it harder, and I’m not very good at that sort of thing!!

Cam2020 · 27/07/2020 23:27

I second Penzance not being much to look at but Marazion is lovely and St Michael's Mount is a sight - beautiful gardens there too. Nearby Mousehole and Porthleven are nice too.

Paradise Park is lovely too - so many places, I'm jealous again Grin

GlummyMcGlummerson · 28/07/2020 02:24

St Michael's amount, amazing!
Minack theatre if you can be bothered with the trip

Toddlerteaplease · 28/07/2020 04:36

@Ihaventgottimeforthis that's what I did yesterday. Wow. I didn't know we had beaches like that in the UK. The beaches are all very quiet. The town was very busy though. Lovely place.

When the tide's out we have some amazing stretches of sand - Gwithian, Perranporth, Watergate Bay, Bedruthan, Whitsand Bay on S coast.
And the beaches on Isles of Scilly look positively tropical, until you get in the water...
We're really very lucky.

goose124 · 28/07/2020 10:26

love Fowey, one of my favourite places on Earth. Other favourite places are Polperro and Port Isaac (where they film Doc Martin) just so beautiful

hedgehogger1 · 28/07/2020 10:34

I love the Eden project. Definitely worth a trip

hedgehogger1 · 28/07/2020 10:36

Oh yes hidden valley was fab.

keiratwiceknightly · 28/07/2020 10:36

Soaking wet day - go to the indoor market at Par, get ingredients for a roast dinner and pick up some second hand videos and board games from the specialist stalls, go back and snuggle in for the day.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/07/2020 15:52

A roast dinner won't be happening. The YHA in its infinite wisdom have closed the self catering kitchens in all youth hostels. So I can't even make a cup of tea! Disappointed by Penzance. Will head back and go to Fowey

OP posts:
sunnyday1976 · 28/07/2020 16:17

If you do go to Fowey try to walk down to Readymoney Cove, and don't just stay in the town centre. The views over the estuary to Polruan are gorgeous, and the ice cream at the beach shop is fab!
Also, a journey over to Polruan on the foot ferry is fun, and a take out drink from The Lugger sat outside (on a nice day) watching the harbour is lovely too.

IndecentFeminist · 28/07/2020 16:20

Fowey is lovely, as is st mawes. Penzance not great
