How much do you weigh if 5'3 and a size 14?

Ok so I know body shapes differ.

I'm on a diet and size 14 is my goal, rather than weight but as it's far away, I'd like to know what I might be aiming for.

Thanks!

I am definitely not a twiggy gazelle at size 12, I'm about 11,8 and definitely overweight. Sizes have increased massively so no way I can fit into size 12 from 20 years ago. Go by weight but I know dress size is a psychological bonus target. I would be much happier with my weight if I was 10,8, that is a more comfortable 12 for me.

Well done for losing weight OP. I'd be wary of simply looking at size 14 as there's so much variation in clothes sizes between shops. A size 14 in next for example could be a size 18 in h&m as next is so generous usually. How about measuring waist size instead? Aiming for a waist size under 80cm is a healthy aim according to the NHS. Good luck however you decide to do it!

I was about 12 stone at that size.

Now hovering at 9 and a bit stone and can wear size 10.

I'm this height and a size 12/14, my BMI fluctuates around 27/28. I know I need to lose weight (lost some earlier this year but put it all back on in lockdown, will exercise more once the kids are back in school) but I wouldn't say that is VERY overweight?! A BMI of 30+ is obese.

Galvantula · 25/07/2020 08:50

I definitely couldn't fit into the size 10s I wore 20 odd years ago, it does feel like sizing is odd now.

BUT @bananabread8 - op is rather overweight and addressing it. How helpful do you think it is to dismiss her goal as not good enough at the outset? If you have been, say, a size 20 and get down to a size 14 you have achieved a huge amount. Getting below that and maintaining it might well be nigh on impossible for someone who has been a lot heavier for much of their lives. Any loss is an improvement. Why can't you save your judginess about the slightly overweight for one of the myriad other threads on the subject!?

@Mostlikely

Depends where you shop though. I am currently 9 stone and have clothes size 10, 12 and 14 and all fit.

this, im 5ft5 and 12.9 stone and wear size 12-14 however i do have a jumpsuits from new look thats a size 10 that fit fine but i have dresses that are size 16
different shops have different sizing, different styles have different sizes

aiming to get to a dress size is admirable but maynot necessarily be the best goal
id pick a number and aim for that

5.4 and 11.3 puts me at a very comfortable 14, sometimes 12 with a bit of stretch. BMI around 27. Overweight yes, but only slightly!!!

(Am currently 12.5 though...)

I'm 5'3 and when I weighed 11st I was in a size 10-12 (shop dependent). I was very active at that point, so possibly more toned and therefore smaller.

I'm now 14.5st and squeezing into a 16 (should probably move to an 18 but I can't let myself admit it).

It's quite interesting just quite how offended people are about the truth about weight. I was quite factual, with vanity sizing size 14 is very overweight for a short woman

BMI is a just a general guide for a quick health check. It is not the gold standard of being healthy. You mentioned yourself muscle mass (not olympic standard); so a person who is in normal bmi range may also have poor muscle mass and more fat and be more unhealthy than someone over the normal bmi range. Age and race also matter. I get that it is a guide, but it is not the question that was asked and is not very encouraging to somebody trying to lose weight really.

I'm not offended CountFosco - I just think you should post more helpfully or not at all.

No doubt op knows she might still have a high bmi at size 14. Or she might be naturally pear shaped and have a small waist but still need a 14. Or she might have done loads of weight training by then and be really solid and still need a 14.

I don't think this PARTICULAR thread is a good place for yet another interminable stream of fat phobic posts droning on about vanity sizing, we've lost sight of what a normal weight is, no wonder we're one of the most obese countries in the world yada yada on and on and on ... Mumsnet is fucking overrun with them as it is!

Sorry to rant on your thread op BrewFlowers.

I am 76 kg (12 stone) and reliably fitting UK high street 14s apart from H&M. I am down from 90kg when I was in between 16 and 18. I'm hourglass shape.

Theres a lot of evidence that losing 10% of your weight is significant for health and maybe thats what op is aiming for. Or just wants a target she can visualise. Im a 14 but taller. I weigh 10.5 stone though.

I'm 5 foot 3 and a size 16 on the bottom and size 14 on top and currently weigh 11 stone 7. I dropped a stone before lockdown (lockdown has a lot to answer for!) and at 10 stone 7 I was wearing a 14 on bottom and 12 on top.
Good luck OP.

I'm 5'4" and at 11st I'd be a size 14. I'm currently about 9st6 and am a 10 in most stores (sometimes a 12). I should be around 9st but lockdown hasn't helped with that at all!
At a 14 I definitely feel overweight. But I guess I'm lucky that the heaviest I've been is 11st3 so to me that's never been "normal" and I try and lose weight as soon as I need to start digging out the size 14 stuff!

Good luck, OP.

I'm fascinated by these answers! I am 5 ft 3 and 11 stone 3 and I am a size 12. Size 14 is invariably too large. It seems that we all carry weight differently? I am stocky and muscly in build and have large feet and g cup boobs. I am also overweight and have a v. big stomach. I've weighed 10 stone a few years ago and was a size 10 in most shops at that point and felt much better in myself. I'm surprised that some people are a size 14 at the same weight as me.

12 stone, but I have very large feet, hands, wrists, bust etc.
Good luck with your weight loss OP

At 5'3" you'll still be very overweight at size 14, you probably need to get down to size 10

Funny! As is clear on here, there's no one size that is in the healthy bracket, even at the same height.

Size ten doesn't work for me at all. My shoulders are too broad for anything but the loosest of tops. (back when I was a size 12 and well in the 'healthy' weight category).

I'm 5ft 3 and was shocked to find that my weight has crept up to 12st. My jeans and tops are size 14 but I need a 16 dress to go round my bust and stomach.

At 11 st 8, size 14 is a comfortable fit.

In my early 20s at 34 - 26 - 35 I was a size 12. Using the same system now I'd be at least a size 20 Shock

I’m 5,3, at 9 stone I’m a size 8 or 10 depending on the shop and look slim and healthy, at 10 stone I’m a size 12 and look well covered but ok, at 11 stone I’m a size 14, I look and feel uncomfortably overweight.

I have a small frame, size 4 feet, somebody with a larger frame would look far better at a size 14 than me.

I’m 5’3 and a size 12/14. More 14 tbh. I weigh 11 stone exactly and my bmi is only just in the overweight category. Not very overweight.
