How much do you weigh if 5'3 and a size 14?

Ok so I know body shapes differ.

I'm on a diet and size 14 is my goal, rather than weight but as it's far away, I'd like to know what I might be aiming for.

Thanks!

Just thought I'd update that I hit a size 14 at 12st 2lb. I think I'll be more comfortable half a stone lighter but I got there! Now onto thinking about a size 12.

Oh wow! Thought I'd be lucky to get three or four replies. Let alone a debate.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I need to pop back and read more thoroughly.

Sizing is a weird one isn't it as I definitely think there is vanity sizing now.

@CountFosco

It's quite interesting just quite how offended people are about the truth about weight. I was quite factual, with vanity sizing size 14 is very overweight for a short woman, if the OP was 6' then it could well be a healthy clothes size. I gave the healthy BMI range and for the vast majority of people that is accurate (male Olympic level weight lifters being one exception, the other being those with very low muscle mass who would still be an unhealthy weight with a BMI of 25). The OP should aim for a healthy weight. That's not to say that she can't be attractive at a higher weight. Attractiveness is not about weight.

I think it's more that you were presenting your opinion as fact and failed to add any qualifiers. It is possible to be five three, size fourteen and still be within healthy BMI range or low overweight. There is no sensible definition of very overweight that includes people of that BMI.

I'm 5'3" and find quite conveniently for me:
11 stone =size 14
10 stone = size 12
9 stone = size 10
8 stone = size 8 (some 6s)

@ThinkAboutItTomorrow

I think sizes can confuse matters and make it easy to kid yourself you haven't got fat.

Because I'd bought 14 before when I was 9 stone 7lb I kidded myself I wasn't too overweight when I hit 10 stone 10 as I was 'still' a 14.

I've lost nearly 2 stone since my heaviest and am just pissed off with myself I let it get that bad.

Definitely agree on the sizing. I didnt realise how overweight I'd got for ages. 1. Because it's been a very gradual increase over the course of 5 years and 2. My old clothes still fit. I was wearing a 12 at 9 and half stone and still wearing a 12 two stone later.

Need to go on weight and inches rather than clothes size.

I'm 5' 2.5" was a 14 between 10 stone and 11 stone. At 11 I was creeping in to 16. That's in shops that I think are quite kind on sizing too.

Based on the ASOS size guide and my inch measurements I'm a 14 now and I weigh 9 stone 3.

I'm 5ft 4 so very slightly taller and weigh around 12 stone wearing a size 14. I first felt "fat" at 10st 2 which is I think is the upper limit for my BMI however the lower limit of 7st 12 seems impossible. The lowest I've ever weighed is 8st 8 and that was after a month of having my jaw wired shut and slurping baby food through a straw. I looked a shell of my former 9 and a half stone self.

If losing weight was easy there'd be no overweight people. Keep going on your weight loss OP.

@randolph78 - I'm fat but I'd defend @countfosco. The BMI counter shows how far along the scale of overweight you are and for many people size 14 at this height is tipping quite far towards the obesity marker, so is 'very overweight' rather than a bit above BMI healthy.

Report
monkeyonthetable · 25/07/2020 16:39

I'm size 14 - just - and weigh 11st 12lbs. BMI says I am very overweight at this size and heading towards obesity. I'm doing something about it, but the right size for my height is more likely size 10-12. I've rarely been smaller than 12, even when I was 9st 4 and well within healthy BMI because of my body shape (very pear-shaped.)

Takes all sorts and all sizes to be fit and healthy but size 14 at 5'3-5'4" is very likely to still be overweight.

@countfosco

It's the 'very' that makes your posts sound so judgemental. Where, for your, is the line between 'overweight' and 'very overweight'? You clearly have your own categories which don't fit with e.g. NHS BMI categories (overweight is around BMI's 25-30 which at size 14 and 5' 3'' is probably where you'd land). Why do you keep insisting on 'very'? You might not mean it to but is just sounds like you are virtue signalling and wanting everyone to know that you're superior. People are taking offence at your 'tone' rather than the 'fact' that an ideal and healthy weight might be lower.

At 5' 3" and a size 14 i was about 11 stone. Between 9 and 10 stone is a good weight for me, i look and feel good and i would be a size 12. I could never be a 10, my shoulders and hips wouldn't allow it unless i was skeletal.

I'm 5'2" and just into a 14 top (from 16) and 14 jeans at 11 stone. I'm still losing weight but I do have 36 h boobs and am Apple (barrel) shape so I think your body shape also counts for a lot!

14 stone- size 12 on the top, 14 on the bottom. Sometimes up to 15 stone. However I lift heavy heavy weights three times a week and (used to) swim and run. I've been less toned and the same size at 12 stone so it makes a huge difference!

I'm 5'4 & used to be a size 14, I was somewhere between 10.7 and 11 stone. Looking at old photos I certainly wasn't slim but didn't look very overweight at all. Like PPs have said you need to take into account body shape, muscle & bone density etc.

However if having an end goal that is a size rather than a weight & that is what is helping to motivate you then go for it OP. Good luck with your journey!

Op asked: out of all the people that wear size 14, and happen to be 5 ft 3 tall, how much do they weigh.

Brilliant. Gotta love it.

@Chicchicchicchiclana

Once again a thread on Mumsnet gets overrun by the hard of reading.

OP asked how much people weigh in her title, people have written their reply to that. Some have gone one step further and suggested the BMI range that OP might want to aim for, and discussed their different dress size compared to same weight of other mumsnetters.

Can't see anyone derailing the thread of reading it wrong!

I'm 5ft2 and 11st8, wearing baggy size 14's. I am in the process of losing weight and this diet has made me look smaller at a bigger weight than usual - so previously when I weighed this much, I was squeezing into 14's.

I definitely am overweight, though much less than 6 months ago, and just over a week ago (and a couple of pounds) I still counted as obese. I will be losing at least another 2 stone to be comfortably in the healthy range.

MondeoFan · 25/07/2020 15:11

I'm a 14 and 11.3 stone. I have large boobs though so can sometimes buy a size 16 if it's a dress.
Otherwise 14 on bottom and 16 on top.
