Do you dump the trolley or put it back?

My bro has come up with a theory that as there is no law to put your supermarket trolley back where it belongs after use... if you do put it back you are a genuinely nice person. And if you don’t and just leave it anywhere, then you’re a dick.

I agree!

It depends where you leave it - in some parts of Australia at least, you can get fined by local government if you leave them on the street. So there are some laws in place.

I agree though, why wouldn't you put it back?

Dorobie · 22/07/2020 21:05

I mean in the carpark. Such as near your car or alongside the wall or something. Not theft and left outside the property.

The people who do this are generally dicks in most parts of their life too

Well I don’t think that just putting the trolley back makes you a nice person. From someone who puts the trolley back.

However, not putting the trolley back definitely makes you a dick. Especially if it’s windy. The worst people though are those who take the trolley to the shelter but don’t actually put it where it belongs. For example, leaving the big trolley in the small trolley line or leaving any trolley at an angle taking up the whole entrance to the shelter. This obviously doesn’t apply if the supermarket haven’t collected the small trolleys yet and there are two rows of small trolleys so you just have to put your trolley where you can with the limited space. Same if you have a trolley that goes on a wheelchair or the big plastic baby seats.

ButterfliesandMoths · 22/07/2020 21:07

I always put my trolley back. It feels wrong just to leave it anywhere.

bluefoxmug · 22/07/2020 21:11

why wouldn't you put the trolley back? don't you want the coin back?

H1978 · 22/07/2020 21:14

I always put it back and take out my keyring coin

newtb · 22/07/2020 21:14

Always put mine back. It cost me a euro.

AgeLikeWine · 22/07/2020 21:14

I take the view that the person who is paid to retrieve the trolleys needs their job, therefore by dumping my trolly I’m creating work for her/him I am doing them a favour Grin.

Bargebill19 · 22/07/2020 21:17

I put it back. I also rounded up other free roaming trollies and return them. Finally I normally sort out the trollies into sizes, if they are unlocked and not the pound release ones.

I am ocd according to DH

Dorobie · 22/07/2020 21:19

I guess this is why they introduced the coin thing. My mum works at a supermarket where the trolleys have magnets on so stop wheeling when left the site. They don’t have coins. So our theory was taken from this supermarket 😆

@AgeLikeWine I don’t think that’s their sole job, and you probably are making more work than needed. I would say you’re a dick... sorry

I put the trolley back in the nearest trolley bay. Is this not what everyone does? Confused

Oh my god, this with bells on. Ffs people, it’s not rocket science, the little ones fit together and the big ones fit together! I always try and stealthily put them back in the right place (and probably look like a complete saddo). Grin

Dorobie · 22/07/2020 21:19

@Bargebill19 do you work at a supermarket collecting trolleys?

OP posts:
Bargebill19 · 22/07/2020 21:20

No! I’m a cleaner warehouses and offices.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/07/2020 21:22

I always put it back, coin or not coin.

I hate seeing them blowing around the car park in bad weather - they could do a fair bit of damage.

Bargebill19 · 22/07/2020 21:22

@MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig

Yes! I’m not the only one!

Dorobie · 22/07/2020 21:23

I bet you’re a genuinely nice person @Bargebill19... I’ve never met a horrible cleaner! They’re always lovely and down to earth

Camassia · 22/07/2020 21:24

I always put it back in the trolley bay too. Never ever would I just abandon it in the car park.

Yes, a good analysis of nice person versus dick.

Dicks also include those in the news today who go to parks for picnics and barbeques and leave all their rubbish strewn around. Makes my blood boil. How difficult is it to pick it up and take it with you to dispose of at home?

Fruitbowlflowers · 22/07/2020 21:25

I always put back, real dickish thing to do is to leave them all alone.
I did have a slight dickish moment today, went for the half trolley but someone had left but if rubbish in including a tissue, and hadn’t secured it to trolley behind. I manoeuvred that trolley out of way so that I could get the one behind and just left it in trolley bay.

Bargebill19 · 22/07/2020 21:27

😊

Livpool · 22/07/2020 21:28

YANBU

People who just dump are awful. I do like the Michael McIntyre sketch about it though

Justgivemewine · 22/07/2020 21:30

I put it back unless eg the trolley park is a long way away and there’s torrential rain ((wuss 😁))

CatBatCat · 22/07/2020 21:31

Your brother has not come up with this theory. He is subbed to r/whitepeopletwitter on reddit.

slinkystairs · 22/07/2020 21:37

Put it back of course. Whats even worse than not putting it back is people who cannot be arsed to find the right type of trolley and decide to attach their trolley backwards to a different trolley type, meaning nobody after then can join their trolley. People like that deserve a slow painful death involving a deep pool and a lead weight.

Gatehouse77 · 22/07/2020 21:40

I park near the trolley parks so I can unload, drop off the trolley and go rather than nearest the door. Far more efficient in my opinion.

And, yes, I’m the sort of person who (on occasion) will reorder the trolleys correctly. I make no apology for that as it helps my sense of order!

Oceangirl82 · 22/07/2020 21:43

if everyone put their trolleys back would it mean less jobs? I know some of the bigger supermarkets employ trolley collectors especially at weekends.
