Do you dump the trolley or put it back?

My bro has come up with a theory that as there is no law to put your supermarket trolley back where it belongs after use... if you do put it back you are a genuinely nice person. And if you don’t and just leave it anywhere, then you’re a dick.

I agree!

I could not ever abandon a trolley in a car park. Just impossible to be so selfish. Absolute marker of inexplicably awful selfish behaviour. (Seriously!)

HeronLanyon · 23/07/2020 07:45

Unless disability makes it tough or some kind of child emergency makes it necessary obvs.

snitzelvoncrumb · 23/07/2020 07:46

I always put the trolley back, with one exception. I was at a shopping centre on a 40 degree day and wasn't parked near a trolley bay. I couldn't manage a baby toddler and preschooler while walking back, the only other option was to leave them in the car which I wasn't prepared to do. So I just left the trolley that day.

Mydogisthebestest · 23/07/2020 07:46

So am I a selfish, lazy and entitled dick then?

HeronLanyon · 23/07/2020 07:47

mydog of course not ! You’ve a reason. A good reason.

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/07/2020 07:50

We don't have coins in the trolley at my local Sainsburys (do at Aldi and Lidl) but I always put the trolley back. I wouldn't want loose trolleys blown about by the wind and crashing into my car so why would I abandon my trolley and allow this to happen? It's like putting your litter in a bin, picking up dog poo etc., it's a small thing to do for the benefit of others. Anyone who doesn't bother, definitely is a dick and doesn't care about other people.

Mydogisthebestest · 23/07/2020 07:51

But upthread someone who has only one leg was told they were lazy and entitled.

I like being able to do my own groceries. It sounds so silly but it’s a little bit of independence for me and when I’m having a bad day and one of the kids has to go it upsets me. It is just too much with the way the trolleys are configured right now to traipse to the other bay because the closer ones are shut.

I went to Lidl yesterday and left the trolley back, it’s just because Tesco have shut the bays outside the front door at the minute.

Mydogisthebestest · 23/07/2020 07:52

Definitely a dick and don’t care about other people.

Really?

RosieLemonade · 23/07/2020 07:54

@AgeLikeWine what a vile attitude.

Pixxie7 · 23/07/2020 07:55

Put it back.

RosieLemonade · 23/07/2020 07:58

@Mydogisthebestest are you ok? You seem very angry about this. No one said you were a dick or lazy or entitled?
If shopping exhausts you and you don’t have the strength to return the trolley that’s fine. From your posts it seems like you leave it in a sensible place. Those comments are about fully able people who just abandon the trolleys wherever.

Mydogisthebestest · 23/07/2020 08:00

I’m not angry - as I said, I’m upset.

Why would you think I’m angry?

BrutusMcDogface · 23/07/2020 08:01

It’s not just trolleys, though. How about people who leave their litter lying around? Surely that’s worse, and makes them more of a selfish, lazy twat. For example people who have McDonald’s takeaways and leave their rubbish by the side of the road, or people who change their baby’s nappies in car parks and leave the nappy in the bay they were parked in. Both of those make me absolutely furious, and imo are worse than leaving trolleys.

HunkyPunk · 23/07/2020 08:01

In normal times, I used to either take the trolley to the nearest trolley bay, or back to the shop entrance. But at the moment you have to take the trolleys back to the entrance in all the supermarkets local to me, so that it doesn't mess up the 'one in, one out' system in place, and so they can be sanitised. All the trolley bays have been taped up. I assume that's the same everywhere? I haven't seen any abandoned trolleys recently!

ihatelockdown · 23/07/2020 08:02

Your brother hasn't come up with a theory it was in the news recently that some psychologist or Dr or something was saying it, so he's just copying him 🤣🙄

BrutusMcDogface · 23/07/2020 08:03

Trolley bays are all open where I live!

Herja · 23/07/2020 08:06
@Dhalandchips
I don't. I'm always completely knackered after traipsing around the supermarket, then loading the shopping into the car, I just leave somewhere close by but safe (not in a parking spot). But then, I am doing it all on one leg so I feel like I'm justified!
Completely knackered?? Utter laziness! It takes a couple of minutes at the most and a short walk to put it in a bay. Talk about lazy and entitled.
I think it might be because that poster has only one leg...

im5050 · 23/07/2020 08:10

I have a trolly coin on my keyring so I I don’t put it back I don’t get my coin back 😁

The80sweregreat · 23/07/2020 08:11

I always take trollies back to the shelter ( even if it doesn't need a coin) and take all my rubbish home with me if I'm having a picnic.
It's something I've taught my children too and often had to clean out the pockets of their clothes when they were at school as they used to put any wrappers or tissues in them rather than throwing them on the ground ( if they couldn't find a bin. ) It's just common curtsy to live in a tidy environment.
Sadly not everyone feels the same way.

evilharpy · 23/07/2020 08:11

If it's because of a disability then fine.

If it's for no reason other than laziness then you're a dick.

Oblomov20 · 23/07/2020 08:12

I don't think I have ever NOT put my trolley back. Sensible people just DO.

Herja · 23/07/2020 08:16

I put trolleys back. I can and it's easy. My mum doesn't, unless she has been taken shopping by me or my brother. She's awaiting a leg amputation and walking around the supermarket is more than enough for her, the trolley is left as close is as safely possible to the car. I think for the main, it's a shit thing to do, abandoning them in the car park. I disagree strongly with @LadyPenelope68 upthread that someone missing a leg is still 'lazy and entitled' for not returning it though. Everyone who can easily, should; those who can't, shouldn't have to.

Bluegrass · 23/07/2020 08:17

I love the way there are people who think it is worthwhile pointing out that the OP’s brother didn’t think of this themselves but saw it on social media, as if it is such a sparklingly original thought that we have to be careful it doesn’t get wrongly attributed!

Of course I’d be even more amused by this if he wrote the post on social media.

misskatamari · 23/07/2020 08:23

Omg people who don't put trolleys back correctly is one of my top pet peeves! The worst is people who take it to the trolley bay, and then don't actually put it into the right trolley, which is lined up there, ready for you to do so! I honestly don't understand the mentality, that you really can't be arsed to just put the trolley back, into the bit it should be. It is literally two seconds more work and means someone else doesn't have to do it! I'm honestly a calm and nice person, I rarely get annoyed about anything, but trolley twats get my rage levels escalating 😂 Thankfully most places here have the pound slots, but our local Tesco doesn't, and I avoid it as I get too cross 😂

randolph78 · 23/07/2020 08:23

Loose trolleys damage cars and you're an entitled idiot if you don't put it back
