If you were at school in the 1970s, what were some of your classmates names. I think they will be the next names to make a comeback.

I was born in 1970 and am a Susan.

But both my dds names are in here too and they're not unusual for 2000 and 2003. My ds is much more modern where we live.

dayswithaY · 22/07/2020 20:51

There are some names that will never come back and with good reason:

Alan, Russell, Duncan, Gary, Nigel, Graham, Maureen, Sheila, Hilda, Vera.

There are also some names that are really lovely and deserve to be brought back from the past:

Paula, Melanie, Nicola, Frances, Josephine, Terence, Robert, Anthony, Michael.

I'm a little bit younger, I was born mid 70s, but from school I remember there were always quite a few girls called Gillian, Lisa, Kathryn, Paula, Tracy, Claire, Joanne. And with boys the popular names were Neil, Nigel, Adrian, Steven, Jonathan. There were multiples of each of those names.

waltzingparrot · 22/07/2020 20:56

You can spot the names that parents chose because they were a bit more 'out there'

I'd say the unusual names of their time were

Zoe
Araminta
Claudia
Candida
Not many unusual names for the boys apart from that Dhjango.
