If you were at school in the 1970s, what were some of your classmates names. I think they will be the next names to make a comeback.

Girls
Judith
Vivienne

SurreyHillsGirl · 23/07/2020 09:48

Lucy
Nicola
Caroline
Melanie

Emma - loads of them
Sarah

And a Rosemary, which seemed frumpy at the time but I think is a pretty name now I'm 'grown up' Smile

I actually think it’s too soon for a 70s comeback. People rarely name kids after their uncool parents’ generation, they’re more likely to choose their grandparents’ names. Assuming people having kids now are 25-35, they were born 1985-95. So their parents were probably born around 1960-70, meaning 60s and 70s names are still parents’ names. Grandparents’ names are more 1930-50 period. Which matches the baby names I’m currently seeing - Peggy, Stanley, Evelyn, Thomas, Christopher, George, etc.

This is an interesting site. You can input names to see how popular they have been over the last 110 years.

reesewithoutaspoon · 23/07/2020 10:47

Dont think 70's names will comeback yet. The names I am seeing now if not modern names are traditionally associated with my grandparents (I was born 66) so stanley edward etc. Think we might see names from the 40's 50's next.
