Worst book you've ever read?

Inspired by the film thread, what's the worst book you've read?

I think mine was The Miniaturist purely because it was SO hyped. It was completely overwritten, ridiculous, boring, and you'd think for that amount the author got paid, she'd have bothered to come up with an ending.

The Road, because it was so depressing.

I also hated On Chesil Beach with a passion.

Life of Pi. Pile of shite.

Your bar is way too high, pps. I was about to nominate A Place Called Here by Cecelia Ahern, which I read in a spirit of total incredulity.

Oh 50 shades deffo. Although our entire book club agree that Catch 22 was seriously hard going!

Definitely 50 Shades. It was so badly written. I kept thinking this must get better. It didn't.

Absolutely rubbish and I gave up with it in the end!

The Cornershop in Cockleberry Bay was dire.

I agree with On Chisel Beach. Dreadful ending, well second half of the book actually. The premise was so good.

The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama - seriously, as a President and leader I think he's great but writer, no.

Twilight. Despite being in the target range, I just couldn't finish it.

Also The Girl Before. It has a four star rating on Amazon but I have no idea how or why.

Loathed and refused to finish The Time Traveller’s Wife.

I also hated Shantaram but that opinion isn’t shared by everyone, I know.

I couldn’t even finish it I was so irritated by it.

Oh how could I forget the Goldfinch? I only read it cos I was off sick after a hysterectomy and very, very bored. Much too long and massively overhyped.

Shantraram I managed about 50 pages and gave up. @Mamette I salute you for finishing.

Oh and something about two friends in Italy. I was in a book club at the time. I was the only one who hated it. It was so dull I can't even remember the name.

I had to quit normal people and return it on kindle because it annoyed me so much. I just could not read a book written with no speech punctuation.

Wild Swans...DH bought it for me. The foot binding chapter made me feel ill. Gave up not long after.
