Worst book you've ever read?

Inspired by the film thread, what's the worst book you've read?

I think mine was The Miniaturist purely because it was SO hyped. It was completely overwritten, ridiculous, boring, and you'd think for that amount the author got paid, she'd have bothered to come up with an ending.

@Alloverthegrapevine

It's not OK to refer to a novel as trashy but it's OK to have 15 pages of the worst book ever read? Presumably those books took time to write too.
Well quite, but cross reference this thread with 'Best Book You Ever Read' and you will find a lot of common ground.

No one sets out to write a bad book. And one person's idea of a Very Bad Book is another person's great writing.

But calling popular commercial fiction 'trash' or, worse, 'cheap fluff' is to demean the work of (usually) female novelists for (usually) female readers.

Flowers In the Attic. I can’t believe she wrote sequels.

American Psycho - nothing remotely enjoyable about that book whatsoever. A hard, unpleasant slog!

Twilight. Despite being in the target range, I just couldn't finish it.

Also The Girl Before. It has a four star rating on Amazon but I have no idea how or why.

Oh my god twilight Eugh Sis in law raved about it. Got half way through and couldn't stand it any more. She has since suggested shit films as well so I now swerve anything she reckons is great as a consequence

I'll also add the Stieg Larsson books which my in-laws raved about and gave us the set of 3. Neither OH nor I got beyond 20 pages.

A few years ago everybody I knew was heaping praise on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night. I did actually finish it but couldn't see what all the fuss was about.
