To feel like Princess Beatrice has played a blinder!!!

She has managed to make be feel all emotional seeing her in the Queen’s dress and tiara. Didn’t think any Royal bride could top Kate but think Beatrice might have managed it by going ultra low-key.

I wonder how private her wedding would have been if not for her father 'being in the spot of bother'? Apart from that, she looked absolutely lovely. The tiara and the dress really looked good on her.

Gingernaut · 19/07/2020 01:22

They may well have shortened the dress and used the fabric for the sleeves.

As it's a vintage dress, it's unlikely they'd have found a match for the original fabric.

Lovely dress, beautiful bride.

I’m obviously in a minority but I don’t like the dress. I like the beading but not the style of the bodice and sleeves. Not my favourite tiara either. The flowers were exceptional though and I think it was handled well under the circumstances.

bettliefsen · 19/07/2020 01:28

@TheNewLook

I think all the “bless her, she’s not one for a fuss” is a tad misplaced. She was fully intending on a large wedding but her plans were scuppered by Covid.

I’d bet my house there will be a big reception at a later date.

Very pretty occasion but the looks of it. Shame to have only 20 people there - I wonder who she was peeping round the door at? If the 20 guests were still inside?

Why shouldn't she have a big reception later ? Most people do.
Frownette · 19/07/2020 01:46

I loved the dress and the flower arch, hope they have a very happy marriage.

Hillfarmer · 19/07/2020 01:53

Recycled dress, fabulous tiara lent by HMQ, low-key ceremony to avoid contagion...all great symbolism at a time of national uncertainty. So there was definitely some sophisticated crisis PR management by the Royals this time - lord knows they’ve had enough practice.

Also, worth bearing in mind that the contagion in this case doesn’t come from Covid-19. It comes from the PR, and actual, disaster that is the father of the bride - who is accused of having sex with a trafficked teenager and continuing a nauseous friendship with a convicted, though very rich, child-raper and sex-trafficker. There ain’t enough ‘Peau de Soie’ in the whole world to make that look good.

Apart from that, it was definitely my favourite royal wedding ever!

bettliefsen · 19/07/2020 01:56

Like covid, he's not her fault either. Rotten luck having two odious things affecting her wedding day.

BloodSweatAndBeers · 19/07/2020 02:20

I wouldn't have known it wasn't a new dress, it suits her perfectly. And how happy they both look coming out of the chapel. Good luck to them.

Ritascornershop · 19/07/2020 02:23

I thought the dress was lovely, and such a nice nod to history. Virtually everyone, including Beatrice, is taller than the Queen, and they added a band of fabric to the bottom of the dress to make it long enough.

It was also quite a clever choice as I think a lot of us are quite fed up with recent spending on clothes from some of the Royal women & heaven knows there must be some gorgeous gowns knocking about the palace cupboards.

I hope he’s nice, too. Between her odious father and what I thought was a sweet take on her on the Windsor’s I have a spot for her.

Bouncingbelle · 19/07/2020 02:25

I think the dress was gorgeous, timeless and really suited her. Photos are gorgeous too. Well done Bea!

Tho am convinced she is pregnant hence the v quick wedding instead of waiting for lockdown to be over!

LaureBerthaud · 19/07/2020 02:29

@OhTheRoses

Let's not forget that Eugenie and Beatrice are actually Princesses and The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are their grandparents. Kate and Meghan were not Princesses.
What's your point?
Overcautiouscorona · 19/07/2020 02:49

I've never thought about the clothes that the Queen has kept over the years. To be able to touch and look at them would be one thing but to choose and wear one... loved the dress.

secretfreckle · 19/07/2020 03:08

What a beautiful dress! And those flowers!!

She looked lovely but she was definitely the dreaded OW. He has a 2 year old ffs. He's not a nice chap.

His son was born in 2016.

I'd love to see an exhibition of royal vintage fashion. If any curators are reading this, please start the negotiations!

Beatrice looks so beautiful in this unusual dress. (Does anyone know the designer? Is it Hartnell?) Some women take a while to come into their style, but I think Beatrice is hitting her stride in her 30s (as did I). Don't judge her by her youthful fashion disasters. She could be a style icon by 40.

jessstan2 · 19/07/2020 05:25

Beautiful pictures! The princess looked lovely.

Exactly and he and the child's mother had split up - they had been engaged. Beatrice didn't break them up for goodness sake, stop muck raking for the sake of it Tezza.
jessstan2 · 19/07/2020 05:30

@GlummyMcGlummerson

I've just started a thread it say that I don't think the photos are great - we can't even see the dress!
I can see the dress.
Gingertea2020 · 19/07/2020 05:37

Think the tiara was chosen to distract all the guests from spotting Prince Andrew. The photos, dress and execution is hole in one.

It’s a rare and timeless vintage dress, sentimental, appropriate for the times, and much more romantic, whimsical and spontaneous than a couture dress that was 50 fittings, and weeks in the making.

I thought it was very touching. The tiara is magnificent and regal. I note that Eugenie and Beatrice has quite elaborate tiaras compared to Meghan and Catherine.

I think the photo with just the Queen & Prince Phillip and a very personal loan of a vintage wedding dress and such a grand tiara that is a favourite of the Queen’s sense a message. Message us , “Even without the press attention and public approval of my Father, I am still a royal bride by birth”.

jessstan2 · 19/07/2020 05:39

Why do people have to keep bringing up the Princess's father? I really hoped he would not be mentioned on this thread.

None of us are responsible for the actions of our parents (or their opinions), in this case we don't even really know what Beatrice's father has actually done so why not just ignore him for now.

Tezza1 · 19/07/2020 05:53

@jessstan2
If you took the time to read my response properly, and to be a little less self righteous, you would see there was no muckraking. I was merely responding to the poster who said that Beatrice must've been the other woman because his child was only two. His year of birth indicates that the child is perhaps four.

I must've been misguided in assuming that putting in the original poster's name and using bold text to quote their post was a bit of a giveaway. I assumed that it was bleeding obvious that I was quoting someone else's post, but obviously not. What's that old cliche about when you assume?

No need to apologise. Feel free to be as judgemental (about me, at least) as you like.

mathanxiety · 19/07/2020 06:10

...apparently she isn't as into fuss and ceremony as her sister so a nice quiet wedding less than 20 people is perfect for her

The wedding was conducted in accordance with covid restrictions, not necessarily in accordance with a preference for a small wedding.
