@Mascotte

What Boots needs to keep going is to find and sell mask proof makeup. My nose was shiny after just a ten minute supermarket trip yesterday. It's outrageous.
I have to say I gave up on makeup about 10 years ago. Occasionally I might put a bit of eye makeup on to go out but that is probably only once or twice a year because I am lazy Grin.

Now if we could adopt a head covering rather than face covering my bad hair days would never be noticed 😁

With that anal gland business, never has your username been so apt, @barkandcheese :o

SeaOtterFluff · 17/07/2020 12:54

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath - she trawled through the government apparently website and applied for any that were local and fitted her A levels, although she actually found the one she got through Indeed as it was advertised as a traineeship. She made some useful contacts at the apprenticeship fair in Birmingham and got herself a bit of work shadowing though it.
The school were useless and pretty unsupportive of anyone not applying to university, so she (and I) did all of the legwork. They offered interview advice for anyone applying for Oxbridge but didn't for the apprentices... I did offer constructive feedback on the parent questionnaire they sent out after she got her results!!

Feel free to pm if you want any more information Smile

Grin too true, it’s actually from the Gilmore Girls, but as you say very apt now. I never thought I’d spend so much time worrying over a dog’s bum.

Some brilliant quotes from Day of the Triffids useful to counter Dementor thinking

“Most people […] prefer to be coaxed or wheedled, or even driven. That way they never make a mistake: if there is one, it's always due to something or somebody else”
― John Wyndham, The Day of the Triffids

I had to read Day of the Triffids at school! Who knew it would be so useful?!

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 17/07/2020 14:07

@SeaOtterFluff - thanks Smile

We'd been planning to attend career fairs in Birmigham in March - which got cancelled - so will keep our eyes out for apprenticeship fair there as well.

She's got time being Y11 next year - and knows where she wants to do A-levels and it's just making sure she has information about all her options beyond that and for the next child who isn't hugely behind her in school years.

Mascotte · 17/07/2020 14:10

@ButterMeCrumpets I'm a full face every day, no matter what, woman 😃

It's like a comfort blanket.

So I've travelled into central London (something I used to do regularly...) for my first Covid haircut.

Oxford Street is busy-but-not-busy, and things seem normal-but-not-normal, if you know what I mean. It is nice to see lots of people out and about, though.

IAintentDead · 17/07/2020 14:28

This could have been written any time in the last 4 months rather than more than 60 years ago

“You know, one of the most shocking things about it is to realize how easily we have lost a world that seemed so safe and certain."

She was quite right. It was that simplicity that seemed somehow to be the nucleus of the shock. From very familiarity one forgets all the forces which keep the balance, and thinks of security as normal. It is not.”
― John Wyndham, The Day of the Triffids

Quick placemark before school run so I don't lose you all.

BarkandCheese · 17/07/2020 15:05

Day of the Triffids was one of my favourite books when I was younger, I ought to find a copy for DD.

Having said I wasn’t going shopping I asked DD what she wanted to do, and the reply was go into town to go to Waterstones. She bought a new books (a book of Agatha Christie ghost stories, two of her favourite things in one book) three second hand books and I bought a brand new T-shirt in the charity shop for £2. We had coffee and milkshake respectively in a little cafe and the town was pleasantly busy.

Got home to find an email from DDs very much non dementor school about how things will work come September. All sounds very simple, year group bubbles, stay in your form room for most lessons, lots of hand washing. DDs a bit upset that there’s no choir for the time being, as are I suspect the school is as they are a school with a specialty in music, but other than that it sounds okay.

Now just sitting with the poor poorly sorely bummed dog. The vets shaved the area around her bum and as a consequence she looks like she’s walking around with a pink donut stuck on her rear end Grin.

CruCru · 17/07/2020 15:19

Ah, there you all are!

Orangeblossom78 · 17/07/2020 15:29

Barkandcheese is that secondary I take it? Just wondering as ours has not said much yet.

ISaySteadyOn · 17/07/2020 15:32

@BarkandCheese, Agatha Christie ghost stories? How did I not know these existed? What's the title? Also, your DD has excellent taste in books! Smile

We just got our staggered start and pick up times for September. All 15 minutes apart which means I have the joy of 6 school runs a day about as all 3 of my DC start and end at different times Hmm

Someone said several threads ago that a lot of this tomfoolery was a big Fuck You to mothers. This doesn't convince me otherwise.

PinkFondantFancy · 17/07/2020 15:37

I just read a really interesting discussion where the vast majority maskwearers are saying they'll stop wearing masks as soon as the gov says it's not mandatory and they have no intention of wearing them long term. I hope that those that have been clamouring for them to be mandatory aren't in the same group since the government doesn't exactly have a good track record so far of relaxing restrictions once they're imposed....

BarkandCheese · 17/07/2020 16:05

Yes, it’s secondary, DD will be going into y8.

The Agatha Christie book is called “The Last Seance”.

Sallycinnamum · 17/07/2020 16:12

I'm dipping in and out of MN too at the moment as its just becoming more and more clear to me that if you have any alternative viewpoint you're a Brexit loving nut case who doesn't believe Corona exists.

The news today that the stats might be wrong and less people have died directly from the virus is massive news but the one poster who dared question it has been absolutely piled on. I just despair really.

AnxiousElephant77 · 17/07/2020 16:14

@BarkandCheese Our secondary guidance has come out today as well, sounds much the same as yours. Also they are proposing that buses are used by one school only, with designated seating by year group.

AnxiousElephant77 · 17/07/2020 16:15

And I’m having an afternoon of hoping that my wedding will go ahead. I’m not interested in posts about Boris ignoring medical guidance or being overly optimistic, I’m going to try and be happy. Have a lovely weekend everyone ♥️

Shodan · 17/07/2020 16:18

Checking in again!

BarkandCheese · 17/07/2020 16:19

Fortunately we don’t need to worry about buses as the school is a short walk away.

are they public bus services? How can they enforce that?
