Excited about going swimming again at the weekend, however the swimming pool rules seem daft -

Have to go up and have card swiped but previously just held it by the scanner- surely just means more contact with staff- seems to be as they need to check our names or something

Charging us extra on top of the membership for each class etc and can only go in for an hour which includes changing etc.

DominaShantotto · 22/07/2020 11:45

DD has an eye test today - when we booked the website specifically said didn't have to wear face masks - now I get a phonecall saying we DO.

DH is taking her - if she needs to choose glasses I'll stand at the doorway and bellow advice!

Orangeblossom78 · 22/07/2020 11:55

Does anyone else find they still have be avoid some friends due to their questioning of what you do and asking you to justify things?

For example I have a couple who say things like "oh would you do X?" and list why not...it feels like constant CBT luckily DH is not a dementor that would drive me mad!

SockYarn · 22/07/2020 11:57

I am at a down south Sainsburys and I DONT HAVE TO WEAR A NASK.

Massive queue to get in though.

MaudesMum · 22/07/2020 12:03

In other news, I've just had my first haircut since the start of March, and it feels FABULOUS. They handed out masks and disposable capes in little bags, hairdresser was in a face shield, but otherwise the experience was absolutely fine. Only problem was I got half way there and realised I don't actually carry cash any more, so not able to tip - I did ask if they had the facility to add it to the card payment, but no. Will need to give him an extra big tip next time.

Willow2017 · 22/07/2020 12:23

Am still dithering about after a long lie.
Contemplating going for big shop in town of essentials like toiletries and a big food shop to save having to wear a mask unless essential. Ds1 has amazingly volunteered to come despite rain!!! He wants stuff and hinted at having something at Cafe Nero 🤣 It doesnt happen often so maybe i should jump at the chance of him carrying everything for me😉

Domina
When i got my eye test last week the optician had mask and visor but it was fine as he let me pull down my mask when lenses were fogging up and I had all those funky machine tests. Was all pretty much normal just with masks.😄

TheOrchidKiller · 22/07/2020 12:56

I've conquered my anxiety about getting the roolz wrong -having been chastised in Costa a month ago for standing in the wrong spot & not ordering in a loud enough voice- and I've got myself a tea from Caffe Nero. I will go again -& sit inside next time as they don't seem to be doing track & trace.

I may even get to see the hot barista who served me, again Blush (Old enough to be his mother, alas).

Sitting outside the local registry office & a bride has walked past in a fabulous dress.

rookiemere · 22/07/2020 12:56

@MaudesMum just had a haircut too. Slightly surreal experience but hairdresser was lovely and guided me through it and even said I'd done a good job on my home colour. Overtipped hugely as just so excited to get it cut.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 22/07/2020 13:00

Hello all. I'm in a bit of a mope today. I feel like Mask Day is looming and it's going to be a real knock for my mental health. I hate the masks, I hate seeing them and I hate that I'll have to wear one just to go into a shop for five minutes. And the death of spontaneity - that if I'm out without a mask (ie on the school run, come Sept) I won't be able to go into a shop if I need / want to because of the rules. I know I'm going to avoid going out because I don't want to see them and that's making me feel trapped in my house again. Miserable.

Sorry. I'm sure I'll get over it, but I'm so pissed off about it now.

I've shaved my big toes. No PPE required Grin
ButterMeCrumpets · 22/07/2020 13:08

I am also counting down to mask day. I just need to source one more item online and I will not have to venture inside Costco again which will save me soo much money as it's very tempting to buy extra things walking about.

Orangeblossom78 · 22/07/2020 13:31

I have had enough of it too. Just put the pool membership on hold as it sounds too dementory and also charging me extra. Feeling sad as i enjoy swimming usually. Will save the money I guess.

PinkFondantFancy · 22/07/2020 13:40

Wow, policing by public shaming. What a shitty new world we're in: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-53498100

ISaySteadyOn · 22/07/2020 13:41

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito,
I am with you and feel the same. If it helps, I signed this and it made me feel better. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/331430/

I think my views have been pretty consistent. I have no problem with people wearing masks at all. I object to being made to wear one.

PinkFondantFancy · 22/07/2020 13:41

If she'd said "I'd like to hope the vast majority of people will comply because they understand the benefits" or whatever, that would have been totally fine. But the explicit use of "public shaming", wow

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/07/2020 13:45

She ‘hopes’ people will be ‘shamed’ into it? What cunts inhabit this world.

IAintentDead · 22/07/2020 13:48

Cressida was definitely being a dick saying that policing by public shaming is the way forward.

BarkandCheese · 22/07/2020 13:49

Has anyone else seen this? Our Aldi have installed a traffic light system at the front door, green you can go in, red wait. The automatic doors won’t actually open if it’s red, and it seems to have a way of counting people going out the exit so it lets one group in when one goes out. No more shop assistants with counters and clip boards. I’m somewhere between annoyed at it’s existence and amazed at how quickly this bit of kit has been created.

Orangeblossom78 · 22/07/2020 13:53

People just won't shop as much due to this shaming etc. It will totally backfire. I'm just trying to think, oh it might save me money. But will probably end up spending as much online.

Orangeblossom78 · 22/07/2020 13:55

I thought it would be Nicola doing the shaming. But I was wrong

MinesaPinot · 22/07/2020 13:56

If some self-important busy body tries telling me that I should be wearing a mask they are going to get a mouthful. I will comply where it is compulsory but nowhere else.

countrygirl99 · 22/07/2020 14:00

barkandcheese we trialled one of these a few weeks ago. However, they don't really work for banks because it's so many people in the banking hall and if one of them goes into another room to sort out something like power of attorney it buggers up the count. It's much safer for staff who don't get spat on because someone doesn't want to queue. I think they were already available pre Covid but I don't know who used them.

Ours has had this for a few weeks now. I like it, saves some poor sod the job of being on the door.

So the BBC are faking the likes/dislikes on comments now. If you click up on a pro mask comment no problem, if you vote down it automatically adds three up votes. Blatant pro government pro mask bias by the BBC. Defund the BBC NOW!
Saw this comment and it's bloody true!
WTF are you playing at BBC?

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 22/07/2020 14:02
@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath I may be wrong, but I have a feeling I live near the Welsh beach you could get to on the train. Feel free to PM me about what's open here!
@110APiccadilly - thank you that's a kind offer.

Though it seems I don't know which beach is closest to me Blush- as this morning I've found an even closer one - slightly quicker on train -and a whole new town to explore and there's a pier and promenade.

DH thought as beach isn't as good would also mean less busy which was another concern he had apparently - though he's currently checking out holiday accomodation there - though I don't think he's thinking this summer.

Unfortunately now we're excited we've also found out that in Wales it's still essential journeys only on trains - all the station webpages and travel planners are saying the same thing - key workers and essential journeys only.

So we're not happy to travel yet.

If it changes in next couple of weeks he's off work that would be great - still it's always good to find somewhere new to explore.
