💐for everyone struggling and worrying about family. Keeping everything crossed for a better day tomorrow for everyone.

@LuckyMarmiteLover

Sorry should have gone to bed so apologies for my continued (slightly drunken) ramblings - my feeling about Trump and Johnson is that they are right wing populists and they have both delayed asking the public to wear masks as it suited their agenda.
Probably not the right place for you then

Trump and Johnson irrelevant to our own views

justasking111 · 16/07/2020 00:25

Having lost 40 minutes trying to do a moonpig card for DS, dropped mouse and everything disappeared. Then could not find the photo in the folder again. In a bad mood now. Away to bed,

BogRollBOGOF · 16/07/2020 00:52

It ain't Banksy, but someone's been going around town graffitiing cute earthworms poking up from the ground.

Mascotte · 16/07/2020 01:19

Now I want aubergines... would it be bad to deep fry some bits in batter tomorrow, to cheer myself up...?

I thought yesterday shall I nip out for some clothes shopping before the masks come in.

Decided against it as my new normal will be online for anything other than emergencies so I stayed in and browsed happily from my sofa getting the sizes I wanted from the whole collection which is unlikely instore. Even got them in the sale and returns are free from a post office if I need to send them back which will be quick even in a mask. Win win for me but lose for the high street.

Thisdressneedspockets · 16/07/2020 06:28

People fiddling with masks render all the hand washing and sanitizing useless. Still, with a 1 in 4,000 prevalence, there's not that much chance of coming across someone spreading coronavirus in this way, I suppose.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/07/2020 06:31

I'm going shopping for holiday clothes and stuff this weekend. Thought we'd do it before we all have to muzzle up.
We did pop to gap the other night and got ds some masks for when we fly. They have some nice kids ones.
I hate that I can type that sentence. It makes me sad that I'm going to have to mask up my child.....
He's randomly excited about it though, as he saw Lewis Hamilton wearing one at the weekend so for now he thinks he will look cool.

100% agree with this.
LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/07/2020 06:44

Was at Marks and Spencer the other day waiting to pay. The man paying in front of me had a full visor on (which tbf to him look more comfy than masks) and gloves.
He was packing his shopping and then when he was asked for his sparks card he said it was on his phone.
Cue lots of messing with his phone as the touch screen isn't compatible with glove wearing, at some point he asked the cashier to do it for him and tried to hand her his phone.
She said she couldn't do it.
Cue more messing before he gives up and puts it away. Then he put his card in the pin machine to pay and lifted his visor so he could see it better. Didn't put it back down until he was almost out the door.

This is what I dont understand. People who are adamant to wear this stuff, but render it useless by not using it properly.

Aside from the people with real clinical need to wear them (they tend to be the ones wearing them correctly) There seem to be a lot of people who wear this stuff to make themselves feel safer (didn't bojo say at one of the sadly daily death shows that the biggest benefit to wearing masks was making people feel safer to go out), why can they not just admit that? Why can they not just own their fear, rather than impose it all on everyone so they don't stand out as much.
Bojo thinks masks will get people spending in shops? Will it bollocks. Those who don't want to wear them won't go and those who do will be mostly just sat at home on hold to the police reporting their neighbour for not wearing one.

Absolutely agree. It's not just the Virus that you're spreading when you touch your mask, it's a million other nasties.

I've noticed far fewer people with disposable gloves these days, did the memo about how useless they are finally get read and understood?

@RubberDinghyRapids

I quite like a bit of artistic graffiti Blush. They commissioned work to be painted on the struts (sp?) under the dual carriageway in a nearby town and I really like seeing them change. Can't stand tagging though. Fucking pointless and dull.
Go to Leicester, when it’s not in total lockdown. Loads of art type graffiti murals around the city there.
incognitomum · 16/07/2020 07:04

@LivinLaVidaLoki I agree regarding using ppe properly. The amount of bar staff I've seen pulling them up and down then serving drinks. Not that I've been in loads of pubs but a few last week when away.

When away had a big faff about using a toilet you pay for. Cleaning rules ect then we all press the same big button to exit. Grim in normal circumstances considering a lot of people's normal hand washing limits.

ButterMeCrumpets · 16/07/2020 07:07

The fact that's they are not mandating it for the actual shop workers should make people think about the reasons for the mandate.

They said it on one of the briefings that mask wearing might improve confidence of shoppers. They are hoping for everyone hiding at home as it isn't 'safe' to now go out and spend to save the high street. As I said before it will be interesting to see if it makes any difference or whether this causes less money to be spent in non food shops.

Unfortunately I can't see them getting rid of this until next year so I am resigned to that fact. We have booked to go away in the UK later this year and the first half was meant to be looking around museums etc with the rest more rambling or outside places. I am thinking of cancelling the first part or modifying it so we don't do inside places as I know neither of us will enjoy it so why do it.

PinkFondantFancy · 16/07/2020 07:16

@Mascotte deep fried battered aubergine?! That sounds amazing!

That comment above (sorry can't remember who said it) about owning your own fear is dead on. All these people clamouring for everyone else to wear masks haven't actually been wearing them properly themselves all this time. I bet any study that anyone points to about their effectiveness doesn't allow for the constant fiddling. It can't do because they're not a forcefield so the chin hammock configuration definitely does nothing.

rookiemere · 16/07/2020 07:19

I love deep fried aubergine. Lovely little cafe at the top of La Masca in Tenerife where we had deep fried aubergine drizzled in honey with goats cheese on top when we visited in October.

Am toying with booking a 4 day trip by myself to Tenerife over the late August bank holiday. I know it's madness with the flight lengths and masks and all other nonsense, but I'm so tempted. Am meant to be going to Krakow in September with some friends - if they pull out as lots of mutterings about going on a plane - then I may well go for it.

PinkFondantFancy · 16/07/2020 07:25

I thought deep fried on its own sounded good. Now you've raised it to goats cheese and honey I can think of literally nothing else!

@RubberDinghyRapids great news on the job application, let us know how you get on!

I'm off to the local shops today to get some bits before maskday. To be fair I suspect the health food shop might be more relaxed about it anyway but would prefer to just do it now.

PinkFondantFancy · 16/07/2020 07:26

I'd go for it Rookie! It'll be lovely

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 16/07/2020 07:37

Do it Rookie! I would if I didn’t have DD - I daren’t do anything that might stop her going back to school next term, so we’re staying in the UK. I’ve booked some tickets for museums and galleries in August, but may have to rethink if masks are going to be compulsory.

rookiemere · 16/07/2020 07:42

Ooh maybe I should. I can stay at a lovely hotel we were at before, very reasonably. Don't feel I can book flights yet whilst Nicola still forcing people to quarantine from Spain, but am going to keep an eye on them.

Orangeblossom78 · 16/07/2020 07:44

It's a bit like wearing gloves, but not assign your hands in a way, leads to a false sense of security.

Orangeblossom78 · 16/07/2020 07:44

Both Trump and Johnson are entirely irrelevant to my own personal views about masks. Why should what they think have any bearing on what I thibk?
