The very reason I hate masks is because I think it's the total opposite of getting back to normal. To me, social distancing and increased hand washing is far more acceptable than compulsory face covering.

I can't point to any particular reason I have not to wear a mask either. No past trauma, no anxiety, no claustrophobia, no hearing issues. I just hate them.

Wearing a face mask isn't a trade off I'm willing to make for anything, really. I'll just do everything online.

I'm not stopping anyone else from wearing a mask if they want to, and I don't plan on breaking any rules by not wearing a mask in situations where they're mandatory. What I don't get is why this isn't enough for some people? Apparently it's only good enough if you don't ask any questions about the rationale and are just really happy about the masks.

PinkFondantFancy · 15/07/2020 22:37

Hi @NowYouListenToMeFella welcome!

LuckyMarmiteLover · 15/07/2020 22:38

As an accountant, I am most worried about the economic impact of another widespread lockdown - I think we need to avoid that at all costs. If masks are one (admittedly unpleasant) mitigation then personally I will were one.

Exactly this. I’m not proposing that I break any rules. I just won’t go anywhere that they’re required. Yet this still seems to be a problem for people? So not only are we mandated to wear masks, but we’re mandated to be happy about it too?
There is absolutely no shopping or non essential activity that is worth the discomfort of wearing a mask for me. So I won’t do them. But that doesn’t seem to be accepted on here. I’m expected to spend my hard earned cash and my leisure time doing something that causes me discomfort.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 15/07/2020 22:40

PinkFondantFancy . Amazing thank you - although I’m obviously on the wrong thread for this really Smile

Why? I’m sure many people on here would have been happy to chat about your lovely day Smile

Dowser · 15/07/2020 22:46

Just spoken to my dil
It would be considered dangerous if a young person’s oxygen drops below 99 per cent for any length of time

She says

They should be able to get it back to 99% by taking deep breaths. If they’ve got a chest infection, it could drop temporarily but if it remains below 99 for over a week, it needs further investigation I’d say x

@LuckyMarmiteLover

On this thread we generally don't engage with dementors, your post was a bit different in that you are not 100% dementor.

BUT your first post said we were anti mask. That isn't true, many said the same as you, that we will if we have to (but shouldn't have to explain why, if we can't). On the whole we have read widely and realised that mask wearing, the way it is done, is not beneficial, and gives some people the excuse to be very rude both in terms of social distance and non wearers.

One of the things that we have never done on here is say that, because we don't think it is useful, no one should be allowed to wear masks. SO your original argument is disingenuous as we aren't 'anti mask' we are pro choice.

If you are not prepared to accept that others have different views and that we make our own choices based on experience and research and think that we should all 'follow the roollz' then I don't think this thread is for you.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 15/07/2020 22:47

There doesn't seem to be any trade off for the mask wearing. No doubt we will still be queuing to get into the supermarket. My local ones didn't have the one way system that has been mentioned on here. Thankfully.

More freedoms being eroded unnecessarily. Have seen multiple chin hammocks here and people constantly touching their masks rendering them pointless.

My sister lives in London and I am due to fly over to see her in August. Not sure if that will happen. Waiting on the green list ok Monday. I cannot face two weeks quarantine for a long weekend so I don't think I'll go if the UK not on the list.

I live alone and have been working from home since early March. I have had enough time of not seeing or interacting with another human. Much as I would love to see my sister.

I feel like I am just existing rather than living. How much longer do they think people can cope with this.

Dowser · 15/07/2020 22:48

And this

Your body is a finely tuned machine. If oxygen levels are displaced, it sets off other electrolytes in your blood. Everything effects everything. It starts to change your sodium and bicarbonate levels and carbon dioxide levels. Etc

AgentCooper · 15/07/2020 22:50

@DominaShantotto hold on Flowers I feel like all this is killing me too. My hair’s coming out in the shower, I’ve lost a stone through lack of appetite due to anxiety, my bones hurt. This will end. We don’t know when and that’s fucking shit but it will end.

Well said.
Of all the threads on Mumsnet Marmite chose this one.
Porthcawl, here we come.............it's not Paris.

My hair is coming out in chunks in the shower too!

Dowser · 15/07/2020 22:51

@NowYouListenToMeFella
So sorry to hear that
Me and dh have just lived our lives as normal, been out most days, even in supposed lockdown, seen family throughout, been shopping, driven all over the area
Life is for living

Dowser · 15/07/2020 22:53

@AgentCooper
@Drivingdownthe101

Oh no, I’m so, so sorry to hear that.
That’s awful.

MaxNormal · 15/07/2020 22:56

DominaShantotto keep hanging in there. It seems to be a bit of a low point just now, but just keep putting one foot in front of the next and at some point this will just be a shitty memory.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 15/07/2020 22:57

I’d like think I’m not a dementor, but I am a bit of a worrier. I have really enjoyed the recent relaxations as I think I said - hotel/meals/pub etc (and hair booked next month - hooray) - I just want to keep these things and more and if wearing Horrible masks help then I will have to do it.
Thank you to those asking about my meeting today with my newly discovered auntie - it was absolutely amazing! Thank goodness for AncestryDNA Smile

AgentCooper · 15/07/2020 22:59

@Drivingdownthe101 I’m sorry to hear it’s happening to you too Sad I’ve sent off for private blood tests because I’m still breastfeeding my 2.5 year old and he won’t get off me (I can’t blame him, he obviously needs comfort and security right now but it’s hard) and having periods (which I wasn’t when I was breastfeeding this much before) so I think there may be depletion of something happening. But stress will do that too. Utter shite.

@Dowser thank you Flowers I’m less worried about how it looks right now than the absolute pain in the arse it is to keep unblocking the plug hole in the bath!

justasking111 · 15/07/2020 23:02

Please see your gp if your hair is falling out, weight loss, bones hurt etc.
Do not assume it is due to anxiety.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 15/07/2020 23:06

Sorry to hear about the hair loss and weight loss. You really don't need that on top of trying to deal with everything.

Dowser, now that I have a bit of freedom again I am slow to give it up. I am back to the gym and reformer Pilates and popping into shops for non essentials or if I just feel like a browse. Been hiking a few times and had friends over.

Will book new flights for maybe the end of September to see my sister.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 15/07/2020 23:06

Sorry I don’t think I was being disingenuous - as I said I haven’t read the whole thread (or to be fair the more recent ones). I’m not a dementor (hopefully) and I have had the most amazing day today out and about in the countryside today with my new found relatives 💕

Welcome to the thread @NowYouListenToMeFella

I agree with your posts. This has gone on for so long, we have all had periods where we feel like we're being eroded. This thread keeps us going and keeps us sane.

We survived the "Stay At Home" vigilantes. We will survive the "Mask Up" vigilantes too. This will end, and we all need to be around and sane when it does

@justasking111 I totally agree with you, I have seen the GP. I had bloods taken which showed everything normal but most things at the lower end so am now taking supplements. I sent off for a private vit D test as they wouldn’t test for that and I know that can be the cause of some of what’s happening. So we’ll see.
