Face coverings are law in Scotland too.

Coronavirus: How exposed is your job?
There a little tool for guesstimating how exposed different jobs are.

Taxi drivers were badly hit where I am
Taxi and cab drivers and chauffeurs Rank: 85 out of 359 jobs

Mascotte · 15/07/2020 12:53

I think the age, sex, race and fitness profiles of certain workers make them more vulnerable to the disease, possibly.

My niece is a "floating manager" for a major supermarket chain, she basically doesn't have a home store but goes anywhere in the region where they need a department supervisor or duty manager in a small high street shop.

She's been working throughout and doesn't know anyone with Covid.

Coronavirus: Credit card spending fell 50% at start of lockdown

We were spending less at start overall - but we used even less cash or debit cards as when we were spending it was on-line and credit cards.

IAintentDead · 15/07/2020 13:08

@Mascotte

Oops lost photo
I've copied that and posted it on my personal FB page

Not sure it will get any reaction but might just make a few people think. I haven't got any strong demenotory friends.

SockYarn · 15/07/2020 13:10

Nobody dead in scotland for a WEEK.

MaxNormal · 15/07/2020 13:33

Ah fuck. DH had a tentative work booking (he's not worked since March) but it's just gone away again. Apparently government restrictions will make it too difficult.

DominaShantotto · 15/07/2020 13:36

I've not really got strong dementory friends, but I've got some who are very virtue signally who've posted a load of self indulgent "why I shall wear this mask" twaddle.

I do have a dementory brother though - locked himself in his house for months, made our mother do a run to the store to get HIM compost, showed up at her house demanding she 2m distanced from him in the garden, and is demanding I mask up the kids. He's a twat anyway though.

Also have one good friend who is basically fucking terrified that the world's not safe, on about withdrawing her kids from school or asking for them to wear masks there - but is fine with mine coming round and playing with them despite knowing that mine have been in school for a fair time now. She lost a friend to the virus so I can understand her fear and we're gently trying to tease the kids out of their bubble a little bit - but we do agree to disagree on it and just change the subject to something else.

Fair few I only have on FB as they're school mums or whatever who are being sanctimonious twats though.

My panic attacks are through the roof today - I'm only coping going out of the house to the unpleasant distanced queue to pick up at school by playing music to get lost inside.

Allflightscancelled · 15/07/2020 13:42

@MaxNormal Really sorry to hear about your DH's work. I'm freelance and the number of times since March I've been lined up for jobs and then they've vaporised - well, I can't even remember how many. And you get so excited and relieved each time, and then let down as flat as a fart. It's awful.

I hope how work picks up soon. Here, I have got a handful of jobs now, and DH has picked a few up too, which is good as he was made redundant in April. It's helping us tick over, but it's seat of the pants stuff.

MaxNormal · 15/07/2020 13:52

@Allflightscancelled thank you and I'm so sorry you've also been in that situation. It's so emotionally up and down, really difficult.

I know what you mean by seat of the pants stuff. I do a bit of work online as I've got a disability that precludes working outside the house or full time, and DH is doing a bit of casual work for a friend, so we're getting by, luckier than many I guess. But we had some major life plans for this year which are now in the bin, and I'm petrified that if this drags on much longer us and many like us will no longer be able to even get by.
But of course none of that matters because we're not Sadly Dead.

justasking111 · 15/07/2020 13:59

So surprised at the aussies 111 dead since start of lockdown, you would think the end of the world is nigh. 3 died yesterday so deffo. end of the world. When looking at world wide figures they should be ashamed imo.

Pleasedontdothat · 15/07/2020 14:07

I’ve been doing lots of FB snoozing this morning in between going on work calls all about the mass redundancies being directly caused by lockdown. Any mention of masks and zzzzzz - it’s quite therapeutic Wink

wanderings · 15/07/2020 14:22

I've seen on my Facebook feed notes that the muzzles are difficult to enforce. Is it actually in law? Did they sneak it into the coronavirus act, just in case it might be needed? Is this why they need the delay, so they can write it into law? I've also seen comment that the police weren't consulted.

I expect that on "Muzzle Up England" day, the police will make a token appearance, like they did early on to deter picnickers in the parks, but probably more for keeping order if things get out of hand. They might be able to say "wear a mask" but not "we can force you to wear a mask, and arrest you if you don't". I've also seen on Facebook "police weren't consulted". What a surprise!

Meanwhile, I'm thinking of creative ideas for rebellious masks:
One with Greta's face, saying "disposable masks end up in landfill".
Full face Boris one.
"Criminals wear masks."

I too keep wondering about whether it would be any good to have end dates in mind, even if they turn out to be false. Boris said "we can turn this around in twelve weeks" - it's been longer than that. I just so wish there was some way that we could hit back at these liars with their smoke, mirrors and mind manipulation. Reducing my spending is one way I intend to do it.

justasking111 · 15/07/2020 14:26

Masks are like deodorant designed to keep other people happy.

Allflightscancelled · 15/07/2020 14:43

@MaxNormal our big life plans are binned too.

DH has an interview for another job on Friday. Will he get it? No. Because he's 58. He could do the job standing on his head with a bad hangover and a blindfold on, but he's 58.

So I think it's seat of the pants freelancing for us, until we drop.

Allflightscancelled · 15/07/2020 14:44

I don't even mind for me because I'm unemployable (don't like being told what to do), but he's a model employee. Works hard, toes the company line, is very, very good at what he does, but hey. 58, so no.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/07/2020 14:54

I work for a bank in a branch supporting role. I haven't heard a peep from the security team in the last couple of days. I think they are holed up somewhere rocking and weeping.

The number of positive tests being recorded has now dropped to about 1%, which is "very good news", said Mr Gething.

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath

Doesn’t he know there is no good news allowed?

RubberDinghyRapids · 15/07/2020 15:34

Just musing to myself.... how to the shops stating "No mask = no entry" stand regarding disability discrimination?
It's not acceptable to demand people disclose their personal health information just to satisfy your curiosity. A blanket rule is surely excluding people with disabilities... haven't we got laws about that?

RubberDinghyRapids · 15/07/2020 15:36

As stated before.... I'll wear one and don't have a problem myself, but I don't for a minute think that everyone else is in the same situation and I think some of the "blue rockers" should be ashamed of themselves for their role in stoking the fires of public discrimination.

RubberDinghyRapids · 15/07/2020 15:40

"Blue tickers" Blue rockers are very different beasts
