Anyone received anything from DVLA lately?

Sent off my logbook over 3 months ago to change address and haven't received it back yet. Phone line and chat not working, or just says the line is busy. I suppose not many employees are in their Swansea office at the moment.
Has anyone received anything from them lately, or managed to speak to them?

Applied for a renewal of my driving licence last weekend, did it online on Saturday, it arrived in the post on Wednesday!

blossomsarepretty · 13/07/2020 19:13

@Skinnydecafflatte really? So guess someone must be working then!
Anyone had any luck with paper/postal documents?

My husband recently renewed his license and the new one arrived in less than a week - we were surprised at the quick service!

Oblomov20 · 13/07/2020 19:17

Yes, sold a car, and bought 2 secondhand cars, all sorted/all documents arrived within 3 days.

StinkyDora · 13/07/2020 19:17

Our log book came back last Friday - took just under a month.

ExclamationPerfume · 13/07/2020 19:17

Online applications are being dealt with. Paper applications go back to March. They are working from home.

blossomsarepretty · 13/07/2020 19:18

Hmm so sounds like it could possibly be lost.
Has anyone manages to speak to them? Is there some secret phone number or certain time when they actually answer the main line?

ChickensForTheHound · 13/07/2020 19:20

Have to contact them for work and we haven't been able to get through on the phone since April.

Vellichor · 13/07/2020 19:22

They sent out renewal forms to my partner last week (not requested).

blossomsarepretty · 13/07/2020 19:22

@ExclamationPerfume was this published somewhere?
I sent off the logbook around early March/early April and had to send off the paper document.

Imonlydoingwhatican · 13/07/2020 19:27

Ive spoken to them, and recieved a refund in the post. X

blossomsarepretty · 13/07/2020 19:29

@Imonlydoingwhatican did you call their mainline? I have tried it at different times of the day and sometimes it doesn't even ring or says it's busy.

DS applied for a provisional licence online and it took eight weeks.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 13/07/2020 19:31

We sent off 2 log books. Only 1 is back.
Driving licenses came back very quickly though

ExclamationPerfume · 13/07/2020 19:50

@blossomsarepretty It's all over Twitter. Many, many unhappy customers.

PeachMoon · 13/07/2020 19:50

We sent ours for change of address about 6 weeks ago, it came back within 3 weeks - we're in NI, but still had to send to Swansea, post has been very slow from mainland UK, so assume it was processed quite promptly then spent most of the time in the post.

blossomsarepretty · 13/07/2020 20:03

@ExclamationPerfume oh really? I don't use twitter so didn't know that. Will take a look. Thank you!

mencken · 13/07/2020 20:04

paper documents are on a backlog of months - as above, lots of very unhappy customers. The hashtag is 'open your post'. I don't think they reply on twitter but you could try. Sorry.

electronic applications do seem to work - a driving licence photocard update here came back in a week.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/07/2020 20:11

We are recieving regular letters for a previous resident from the DVLA. I hope they aren't urgent, we haven't been able to track them down...

nikkylou · 13/07/2020 20:20

I'm still waiting for a photocard renewal....I sent at the end of April.

Was very frustrated that they have (comparatively) recently announced that photocard between Feb and Aug have been extended.

Does not help me without any ID having dutifully posted the card before their update. Was expecting a wait but not 3 months....

The website tells you only to call if you're a key worker or Driver (job), which I'm not. I tried tweeting but got their clearly generic, "sorry we have less staff so there is a delay"

Would love some sort of expected lead time...not least so the cheque doesn't bounce when they finally cash it...I will be SO annoyed if they come back after 6 months and declare they couldn't process the application as the cheque is now out of date.

blossomsarepretty · 13/07/2020 20:31

@nikkylou how frustrating! Something similar happened to me too, they announced in June that you can now change the address of your logbook online - UNLESS you have already sent off the paperwork which I dutifully did after we moved. I also have to change the address on my driving licence and I can't do that online and really don't want to send off my driving licence as well!

The website has been saying you can only speak to them if you are a key worker for as long as I have been checking it. I am also not a key worker.

I renewed my driving last week and it came within a couple of days, I thought maybe because we live so close, I can see the DVLA building from where I live. They are still there, well by the number of lights that are always on in the place I would take it they are open!

Imtryingveryhard · 13/07/2020 20:50

I got a cheque for road tax refund last week, less than 7 days after I sold my car! Very pleased with that.

Iwantacookie · 13/07/2020 20:59

Been trying to sort ds1 provisional since before lockdown. Finally managed to speak to them last week. They told me postal stuff might still take a bit longer but they are working through it. It really was a nightmare to ring them. The lines were constantly busy for 4 days.
