Songs that make you sob

Sorry, I know this topic has been done before but...
Recently watched The Falling, and Florence Pugh sings Voyage To The Moon- it's only a brief moment, but I had never heard the song before and I cannot stop thinking about it. I've listened to Donovan and the Mary Hopkin version and I'm sobbing! Absolutely bawling my eyes out! It is such a sad sweet melancholy song. It's making me think of the DCs as babies and how little DD (4) is growing so big now...

Are there any songs that have given you the same reaction? I can't stop listening and crying!

Disclaimer- this may be a result of lockdown hysteriaGrin

Jackal in your mind (Francis Dunnery)

Destroyedpeople · 14/07/2020 00:28

Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel

This Woman's Work, by Kate Bush. And I don't cry easily. It is beautiful though.

SimplySteveRedux · 14/07/2020 00:33

Darren Hayes - Unlovable
Kelly Clarkson - Because of You
Evanescence - Missing

SimplySteveRedux · 14/07/2020 00:34

Oh, and Lene Marlin - Maybe I'll Go.

SimplySteveRedux · 14/07/2020 00:39

@landgirl1

Heaven is a place nearby by Lene Marlin - worth checking out on youtube- it has got me through some dark times when struggling with grief & loss

If I want to emotionally lose myself I listen to Maybe I'll Go, A Place Nearby and Flown Away. Wrecks me every single time.

pinkblossomdreams · 14/07/2020 00:39

How has Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill not been mentioned? Gets me every time. Such a beautiful song. Her voice is hauntingly emotional.

Cheesewiz · 14/07/2020 00:57

How long by rhcp, family friend sang it at my brother in laws funeral and I haven't managed to listen to it since

OwlDoll · 14/07/2020 01:21

The Old Man by The Fureys. One of the saddest songs about the death of a father.

Wayfaring Stranger sung by Johnny Cash. The music alone bring tears to my eyes never mind the lyrics.

Jealous of the Angels by Donna Taggart.
This was sung as the coffin of my best friend's teenage son was being carried out of the church. I still can't listen to it in full.

Teddy1970 · 14/07/2020 01:38

Precious Moments by Matt Monro, the words and the music really get to me.

Grinchlywords · 14/07/2020 02:07

Moon River
When an old cricketer leaves the pitch
Over the Rainbow, Eva Cassidy or the Hawaiian fella
And more esoterically, thé In Paradisum from Faure's Requiem. Sublime.

Drive by The Cars. It was playing on the radio as my friend drove me to a solicitor to file for divorce. "You can't go on, thinking nothing's wrong"
The whole of the Black Star album. I'm a huge David Bowie fan and he wrote and sang those songs knowing he was dying.
Bread of Heaven. My choice of hymn for my father's funeral. The robustness of it summed him up so perfectly.

Starmaker by The Kids from Fame.... I sob and sob!

Yes! This used to ruin me when I was a little kid.

Along with Pinky and Perky's cover of Daydreamer by David Cassidy. I'm not even kidding.

Could never really say goodbye
Wherever you may be
I will look up and see
Someone in the dark for me

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/07/2020 07:41

Puff the magic dragon
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Over the rainbow- Eva Cassidy
Angel - Sarah McLachlan

Seeleyboo · 14/07/2020 07:42

My dad was a singer and songwriter. He's passed now. When I hear the songs he wrote on the radio I feel a lump and change stations.

DoTheNextRightThing · 14/07/2020 08:03

Fields of Gold, the Eva Cassidy version. Miserable anyway but it used to be in that "My mum should be here" Cancer Research UK advert so it just gut punches me.

So Far Away by Avenged Sevenfold because it was about their drummer who died.

Caledonia because I'm a patriotic sod.

DoTheNextRightThing · 14/07/2020 08:05

Oh and that song from Toy Story 2. "When She Loved Me."
