Brooklyn Beckham is engaged

They've been dating 7 months and he's had a series of girlfriends.
Would you be happy if your 21 year old said they were engaged? Irrespective of who he is if he was my kid I would feel that he was too young and they'd not been together long enough. But what would I know?

I’d say she wants to get married and he came along.

CatherinedeBourgh · 11/07/2020 22:21

I was engaged after 6 months at 19 (dh was 18) married at 21. Still happily married 30 years on...

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/07/2020 22:28

I would have wanted him to get a job first. I assume the parents are funding their lives from here on in? I wouldn’t be impressed.

WinWinnieTheWay · 11/07/2020 22:30

I wonder what's the rush?
From a very boring, sensible an unromantic pov it might be better if couples courted/dated for a minimum of 2 years before marrying s and that no one could marry before 25.

Dozer · 11/07/2020 22:31

If he’s financially independent, fair enough, lots of 21 year olds do impulsive things, sometimes works out, more often doesn’t.

If he’s subsidised, it’s not his money he’s risking.

RJnomore1 · 11/07/2020 22:36

Me and DH got engaged when he was 20 and I was 21 after knowing each other 6 weeks. Round about when Victoria was pregnant; she had Brooklyn in 1999 and got married the next year, we got married in 1999 and should have had a child the next year but she arrived just in time for the millennium party.

Weird to think they’re old enough for that but it wouldn’t worry me. I’d worry more if he hadn’t had the girlfriends before.

Pomegranatemolasses · 11/07/2020 22:36

What is he working at/studying for?

RJnomore1 · 11/07/2020 22:37

Oh we just celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary btw...

RJnomore1 · 11/07/2020 22:37

He’s a photographer isn’t he?

Honeyroar · 11/07/2020 22:37

I got engaged at 21. My parents were quietly horrified. We split up a year later thankfully. I shudder at the thought of that relationship now!

Quarantimespringclean · 11/07/2020 22:38

I was engaged at 19, then again at 22, then again at 24. I married the third one and we are still together 34 years later.

I can’t get worked up about engagements. In the modern world they aren’t legally binding contracts but a public statement of your feelings for one another. If your feelings change later it’s no big deal to end it.

And I am sure Brooklyn’s girlfriend has got a very nice ring - that would have turned my head at that age.

gotothecooler · 11/07/2020 22:41

If he’s subsidised, it’s not his money he’s risking.

Risking how?

saltycat · 11/07/2020 22:44

The obsession with no marks gets my goat.

Sorry now.

Iamthewombat · 11/07/2020 22:44

He's done a lot more in his life than the average 21 year old so it's not as though he's lead a sheltered life with no experiences

HAHAHAHA at Brooklyn Beckham, man of the world.

Qualifications: negligible. Skills: zero. Personality and looks: nil. Achievements: nada.

I expect that his parents were looking for a good news story, since the Beckhams only appear to exist in the media. The ‘look at us being country squires in our Wiltshire hideaway’ pictures weren’t quite cutting it in the wake of ‘Victoria tries to grab public funds to furlough staff at her vanity business’ story, so ta dah! Brooklyn is engaged! Look at this sparkly new thing and don’t look at the failed business or David’s infidelities!

jessstan2 · 11/07/2020 22:46

I didn't realise his fiancee was 25. What does a 25 year old woman want with a 21 year old boy? A fling maybe but commitment, no. However it may not last.

gotothecooler · 11/07/2020 22:48

What does a 25 year old woman want with a 21 year old boy?

Eh? Hmm

Dozer · 11/07/2020 22:48

Depending which country’s/state’s trust fund / pre nup laws apply. Presume if he is subsidised his parents will have lawyers look at it.

gotothecooler · 11/07/2020 22:50

@Dozer

That's not what I meant. Why do you think he is risking money by getting married?

purrswhileheeats · 11/07/2020 22:51

@pinkhousesarebest

What on earth is this girl doing with him would be my question, if I was VB. He seems a lost and desperate soul to me. Poor lad.
I always thought he looked lost. VB will be behind it all, pimping him out to remain popular Sad
blueshoes · 11/07/2020 22:51

He is punching above his weight. Go him.

IcedPurple · 11/07/2020 22:56

Obvious publicity stunt is obvious. I highly doubt they will make it down the aisle.

saltycat · 11/07/2020 22:58

Money obv. behind this somehow.

But hey ho, off they go and I don't care, just posting for the fun of it.

BlueBrian · 11/07/2020 23:02

He’s a photographer isn’t he?
I believe he got a book of his photos published, mainly because of who his dad is, rather any discernible talent.

BlueBrian · 11/07/2020 23:03

rather than

elliejjtiny · 11/07/2020 23:03

I got engaged at 20 after dating DH for 7 months. We've been married 16 years.
