I think the mask being compulsory is desperation and may not even happen - they just want people out and about and anything that might help with that is on the table.

That or the Tories plan to re-build the ecomony on elastic and fabric sales.

Wales is being very sensible on masks - though less so on economic future of country but schools seem postive about going back in September.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/07/2020 19:18

@wanderings, how do we make anti muzzle noises? I am, for example, sure my MP is a total Dementor.

TheGreatWave · 10/07/2020 19:20

@ButterMeCrumpets

If mandatory masks come in for England I am definitely sticking to online shopping.
See I think this is why Boris may not do it. He knows it will put people off going out, so he will try not to bring it in.
BabcockPeggy · 10/07/2020 19:21

Up to now I’ve been doing Rishi proud, spending money in cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops, but if mask wearing becomes compulsory he can forget it.

littlbrowndog · 10/07/2020 19:24

Went in local co op. Beer run

Not much mask wearing at all

Seems it’s like pretty much older people are wearing masks. Does it make them feel safe ?

MagdaS · 10/07/2020 19:24

@Ibake my lot and the ILs were bustling in your town earlier. They had a wonderful time in the park.

I was at work, sitting at my usual desk for a whole day, for the first time since March. There were only 5 of us in from my team but it felt refreshingly normal. There was a bit of banter, lots of ad hoc asking people if they knew something or wanted to chip in and a tea round. Grin

wanderings · 10/07/2020 19:24

@ISaySteadyOn Write anyway, so that it's on record; often an MP's reply isn't worth the paper it's written on. If any shops don't appear to be enforcing it, don't wear it. I bet of lots of shop staff won't want to enforce it. Vote with your wallet. Post on social media the purchases you've decided not to make. Like @LadyOfTheImprovisedBath, I'm clinging to a hope that it is desperation, one of many mind control exercises. They've scared the public shitless, realised that's worked too well, so now they have to backtrack and tell us it's safe after all.

MagdaS · 10/07/2020 19:26

And I’ll wear a face covering on public transport but that’s it. No way am I walking round Wilkos with one on.

Alwaysfrank · 10/07/2020 19:28

I went to the hairdressers today, first time since February bar a minor fringe trim just before lockdown. With a short style that's a long time! It was my first time wearing a mask and I can't say I enjoyed it, I would be very upset if they become mandatory now with Covid levels so low.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/07/2020 19:28

Thanks, wanderings.

mightbealittlebitmad · 10/07/2020 19:31

I've noticed how the message has changed from staying at home if you can to go out if you can. They've realised how they have terrified the life out of people and are pooing their pants wondering how they can possibly turn it around.

I won't be thrilled if there is a mask mandate, I'll probably just steal a shield from work and wear that. I definitely won't be wearing it properly and I will be adjusting it every 5 seconds thus defeating the object but there we go.

Kids have played with another child in the park today, it's not often I see others in "our park" so that was nice for them. I had a bit of a chat with the dad, no enforced social distancing for anyone, kids played as normal and we stood at a respectable personal stranger space away from each other. Didn't think anything of it until we got in and I thought oh that was normal wasn't it.

If they even try taking my life away in winter I will do everything in my power to oppose it and will not be contained inside away from my family and friends. It turns out I'm actually really social and need to be around people even if I'm not talking to them. I do like being on my own though so I can't wait until September when I have one in school full time and one at nursery once a week. It was supposed to happen in April but obviously that never went ahead so I've been pining for the child free day I could have had.

Side eyes at TheOrchidKiller, you don't work at the same place I do, do you?

I don't know. Went out of the building this morning to do my rounds as it were, came back & the tape, along with other visual aids to remind us how to walk in a straight line had suddenly appeared.

I guess there are many cramped buildings covered in novelty sticky tape at the moment.[/quote]
Our tape turned up last week so probably not. Black and yellow tape makers must be raking it in

TheOrchidKiller · 10/07/2020 19:40

Ooh, you had me going there! My next question to you was going to be have they gaffer-taped the chairs to the desks at your workplace, to stop you sitting there?

Have they not heard of scissors?

Have thought the same about tape sellers raking it in. And mask sellers.

Blobby10 · 10/07/2020 19:42

@Dowser I’m drooling over them all 😁 if I had the money I’d get a pennine countryman (they took over Conway ten years ago) as now I’m getting older I think having a toilet in the camper might be useful as I wake more often for nighttime wee 😂😂😂

PinkFondantFancy · 10/07/2020 19:52

I have absolutely no intention of wearing a face covering unless I have to, but if it's necessary I want it to be clear I'm not happy. You won't find me wearing a bloody Cath Kidson twee one that's for sure

PinkFondantFancy · 10/07/2020 19:53

I'll certainly be avoiding shops that enforce it. It's the only way they'll learn

No gaffer taping as yet (but keep your voice down incase it gives anyone ideas)

MaudesMum · 10/07/2020 20:08

I can see the point of masks in crowded places, but it is possible to go shopping at the moment and not get closer to 2m to people - especially since so many shops have strict rules on numbers. I'm assuming that the government is working on the theory that more people can be allowed into shops if masked and therefore the greater good of the economy etc etc. Still bollocks, though...

justasking111 · 10/07/2020 20:08

Any bright sparks on here come up with a solution to this problem.

Restaurants just cannot get hold of perspex so what should they use to create a booth effect between tables do you think? I was speaking to a restaurant owner today the hospitality association he belongs to say it is the same across n. wales for hospitality establishments, so even though Drakeford may give them permission to open on 3rd August they are frankly stuffed if they cannot create shields.

IAintentDead · 10/07/2020 20:10

I've got a home made one in the car in case I am forced to wear it.

But I don't go on public transport and can see no other need for them.

I will wear one if I have to to fly though. I really need to go to Turkey. I need some new glasses and I'm not paying UK prices where I can have a holiday as well as glasses for the same price in Turkey.

Can they knock up (or get someone locally to) hinged frames, like for a room divider. Then staple polythene to the frames, or even at a pinch wrap them in industrial cling film.

Make each frame about 700mm wide, hinged alternate ways and then they can quickly be folded and stored when not in use.

IAintentDead · 10/07/2020 20:16

kind of like a folding zig zag clothes horse.

Definitely, if the mandatory muzzle comes in, we said here we won't be going out shopping at all.

I don't have to wear one, but can't be doing with the hassle I'd get. I had to go to the Doctors this morning and was given the evil stares and questioned once by some nosey prick. Walked out of there feeling like I was going to deck someone if I was challenged or given an evil stare again.

110APiccadilly · 10/07/2020 20:20

I had to wear a mask the other day in a medical setting. It was only when the consultant (who was also wearing a mask) started dictating a referral letter that I realised we'd had a semi-serious miscommunication. I was there so able to correct it, but what if I hadn't been, or hadn't realised?
