Mwnt is amazing.

Harlech

Llandanwg

Borth/Ynyslas, but don't swim in the sea at the Ynyslas end.

I'm off to Bosherston and Broad Haven South today with DH and the dog. I bloody love Pembs, so lucky to live here.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 10/07/2020 09:38

I loved Llangennith when I was a student in Swansea. Apart from the beach itself being utterly beautiful, so were the surfers.

Sorry, it’s definitely not pronounced ‘munt’. Think ‘munt’ but with more of an ‘oo’ sound in the middle, like if you were to say ‘moo’ (as in the cow moos). 😂 Say Mooont and you’ll probably get somewhere close.

Sorry, I’m a fluent Welsh speaker and the whole Mwnt pronunciation grinds my gears 😂

I’ve been trying to think of a word that rhymed with Mwnt and I couldn’t, I didn’t even think about likening it to a moo!

Sorry. That's how my fluent welsh speaking husband told me to pronounce it 🤷🏻‍♀️
wobblebot · 10/07/2020 18:20

@Sn0tnose but then we could also get on to how there are different words for the same thing in the north to south let alone pronunciations..?!

Iwalkinmyclothing · 10/07/2020 18:22

Surely variations in accent affect pronunciation in Welsh as they do in English? When we moved from Norfolk to Manchester the kids really struggled with some phonics because 'book' and 'cup' and so on are pronounced very differently in the two areas- will that not be the case for 'Mwnt' in different areas of Wales?

tinytemper66 · 10/07/2020 18:24

Slight joke about Aberavon but it does have a lovely beach if you can ignore the rest and look towards Mumbles 😅😂🤣

Destroyedpeople · 10/07/2020 18:24

Rhosilli or Newquay

Destroyedpeople · 10/07/2020 18:26

I wouldn't swim in the sea at Borth it's more like Broth....

Amazing beach fir walking at low tide though.

I was about to say the same!We used to stay at a farm called Tyriet in our caravan about a mile and a half walk from Mnt when I was very small ( in the 1970s) Just beautiful little beach!

The beaches in that part of Wales are all so beautiful!

babybythesea · 10/07/2020 18:57

I have a special place in my heart for Mwnt, PercyKirk.
We have always holidayed in Pembrokeshire. As children, after many hours in the car to get there, Dad would unload the car and then say ‘Who wants to see the sea?’ and off we’d go to Mwnt.
Still holiday in Pembrokeshire, and Mum and Dad live there now, not far from Whitesands which is a glorious beach.
My favourite now has got to be Druidston.

Weepingwillows12 · 10/07/2020 19:03

I love Three Cliffs and Barafundle Bay but they are the sort of places you lug all your stuff along long paths to get to then over miles of beach. Never feel full and are stunning. I like empty beaches and rock pools. If you want somewhere with toilets, restaurants, shops etc "traditional seaside town" then Tenby is nice. Or if west Wales then Barmouth is ok.

Weepingwillows12 · 10/07/2020 19:05

It's just that I dont know premier inns or luxury hotels beside my favourite beaches. Saying that it's been a few years since I went and I stayed in a cottage rather than hotel. I think bosherton lilypinds might have national trust properties near by.

Weepingwillows12 · 10/07/2020 19:05

Lilyponds

mum11970 · 10/07/2020 19:13

Another one for Newborough. Absolutely stunning beach.

Freefalling123 · 10/07/2020 19:15

Another vote for Barafundle!

DinosApple · 10/07/2020 19:22

Barafundle.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/07/2020 19:27

I love Mwnt too - we’re hoping to camp there next month if the shower block will be

Barry Island’s lovely - but only when it’s quiet

What do you think the nicest sandy beach is in Wales ?
Laurendelight · 10/07/2020 19:31

Pembrey country park otherwise known as Cefn Sidan. 5 miles of unspoilt beach, dunes and forests.

Destroyedpeople · 10/07/2020 19:38

So about Pembrey. ..if you turn off the main road between Carmarthen and Llanelli where the brown sign for Pembrey Country Park is....how far a walk would it be to the beach? (Not driving atm)

Jellykat · 10/07/2020 19:40

babybythesea Love Druidstone, but mainly because of the Teletubby house! Grin

Llanbedrog beach is lovely. National trust with a cafe overlooking the beach.
Sandy with a gentle slop into the sea for the kids

twoglassesofprosecco · 10/07/2020 19:43

Another vote for Barafundle!

Tempjob · 10/07/2020 20:23

Caswell !!! So safe. From there you can walk to Brandy Cove and Pwlldu which are less well known.
