A flying lesson it was something I had always wanted to try

Thebearsbunny · 07/07/2020 17:27

Nothing at all, just a bog standard card that said happy birthday bears bunny, from bearsbunnyex. No kisses, no present, no meal out. When I asked why his response was ‘you can’t expect presents when you work part time’. As you can see he’s now my exdp. One of many reasons I left him, but my 40th was the beginning of the end.

DappledThings · 07/07/2020 17:33

Absolutely nothing, which was exactly what I wanted!

tinkywinkyshandbag · 07/07/2020 17:45

I literally have no idea. I threw my own party for my 40th. Don't recall a gift.

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 07/07/2020 17:49

It's mine in a few weeks. My DP is not good at gifts, I am fairly sure he hasn't even thought about it let alone actually got me anything.

I'm very envious at all the wonderful things people have had .

A hot water bottle Confused Sad. It was given to me a few days before my birthday. It wasn't wrapped, he just put the supermarket carrier bag on the table in front of me and said "happy birthday". Was a bit puzzled but thought maybe it was a joke. A few days later on my actual birthday...nothing, no card, no cake not even a verbal "happy birthday". His birthday had been a year before mine and he had a huge fuss made of him - several significant presents, handmade card that took me a few hours to make, a homemade cake and special meal and also a meal out with all the family.

Diamond earrings. He got me the matching pendant for Christmas that year.

My 50th he bought me some amazing and rather expensive outdoor gear (boots, clothes etc).

30th, got married abroad so holiday covered both our birthdays
40th, can't remember
50th, (in full lockdown) ... a card

And they say romance is dead! 😬

Tronkmanton · 07/07/2020 17:58

A set of showjumps- best present ever Smile

UserErrorMessage · 07/07/2020 17:59

@Spied

£40 in a card. £1 for each year apparently.Hmm
🤣😂🤣
CokeEnStock · 07/07/2020 18:00

We went to St Tropez. I can't remember if he bought me an actual present. I was more than happy with the trip.

gardenbridge · 07/07/2020 18:01

Leather overnight bag

thisstooshallpass · 07/07/2020 18:02

Mine isn't too far off. We have just moved and my two requirements were a view and a fridge that makes ice.

I didn't get the ice maker. I'd settle for a second hand under counter freezer for the shed which I can fill with ice trays. I'll probably but it myself though.

I am uncomfortable with the 'what did you get/what are you getting' for birthdays/Christmas/anniversaries. I'm not 5.

HelloDoris · 07/07/2020 18:02

A vintage Ruby and diamond ring.. We were due to go out for dinner but our youngest got sick and so we couldn't go. Had some chips at home instead. #classy

Stompythedinosaur · 07/07/2020 18:03

It's not my 40th until August, but do is getting me a pet a tapir experience and couple of nights in a hotel.

Oblomov20 · 07/07/2020 18:11

He took me to Barcelona.

BrowncoatWaffles · 07/07/2020 18:13

An Apple Watch and a posh dinner out at Disney World.

sneezetwice · 07/07/2020 18:20

A bottle of Jo Malone perfume.

sneezetwice · 07/07/2020 18:25

I had a cheetah come and sit with me, and stick his whacking great paw over my hand, and give me a wash.

I could die happy after experiencing that

Bargebill19 · 07/07/2020 18:30

The boat painted - and said that was it for the next ten years!!

hopingtobedally · 07/07/2020 18:33

@thistooshallpass

Why feel uncomfortable? In my case it's the perfect chance after a long history of shitty uncaring behaviour so I need to make sure I'm not being unrealistic

Trip to Rome, jewellery, weekend away with the girls, family weekend, party...I sound lucky and I am, however we are not ridiculously wealthy.
