Slight tweak to the suggestion, but here it is.

I’ll never forget when it looked like we were entering lockdown some poor key worker (nurse?) stating that she was a single mum with an 11 yr old and she didn’t want to leave him/her for 14hrs a day on their own. I don’t blame her. But there was page after page screaming “don’t you know there’s a national emergency - your 11 will just have to suck it up”
It was disgusting. As if any of those morons would like to leave their child all alone for 14 hrs a day for weeks on end.
I was so angry and very nearly left Mumsnet over that.

KaronAVyrus · 06/07/2020 19:06

Oh and yes to the Facebook group.

The 'AD' threads on here make me realise what a scientifically ill educated nation we are

Quote from another thread. How very dare they! Grin

Oh my god, their inability to self reflect in that statement is killing me!!

What a crock! We've been really rigorous with all the data we've shared and analysed. Cheeky fecker!
DominaShantotto · 06/07/2020 19:11

Feeling like the uncool kid not getting in on the FB PM action.
Please!

Went past a still "closed" playpark with a very uneasy mum and toddler on it - I cheered her on.

Teateaandmoretea · 06/07/2020 19:21

I don’t get the Facebook thing either I’ll join your gang @DominaShantotto

Ibake · 06/07/2020 19:30

Just starting now on bbc1 panorama programme on impact of Covid on cancer. Wonder if prof Sakora will be on? Should be an interesting watch

Willow2017 · 06/07/2020 19:30

I can't believe that people are still churning out the "without lockdown 500, 000 people would have died" mantra!

QuietlyLurkingintheCorner · 06/07/2020 19:31

Hi everyone, found you again! I don't post often, but just wanted to say to @Spudlet that my DS also chews his arms - he is pre ASD diagnosis- and I can thoroughly recommend chewellery from a website called Chewigem. They have loads of advice on there as well.

Teateaandmoretea · 06/07/2020 19:31

Or that the only people with any immunity test positive on that daft antibody test. It’s utter bollocks

That's hilarious. I wonder how well educated they think Prof Spiegelhalter is?
Teateaandmoretea · 06/07/2020 19:35

Hahahaha if they say so

Some people parrot crap that ‘experts’ have said but they seem incapable of understanding that no one fucking knows. They can’t get their heads around the idea that scientists don’t have the answers either, only a range of hypotheses.

BakewellTarts · 06/07/2020 19:36

There's lots of poor science everywhere on Mumsnet. I'm reasonably well educated scientifically (I have a BSc) but certainly am not an expert. I think the AD threads will have got it wrong but if I want an expert opion I'll go to a proper exper. Sorry ADs although obviously some of you may be Prof Spiegelhalter or Prof Sakora in real life.

I'm a science teacher 😳😂
Drivingdownthe101 · 06/07/2020 19:41

FrugiFan that’s brilliant Grin.

I’m not sure we claim to be scientific experts do we? Or even talk much about science! We discuss stats sometimes. We talk about Greek swear words and playgrounds more often.

justasking111 · 06/07/2020 19:41

I have been fretting about a friend in Florida with toddler and new baby with all the bad news about cases rising, but the death rate percentage wise is so low. Gave my head a wobble.

Teateaandmoretea · 06/07/2020 19:41

@BakewellTarts I suspect everyone on mumsnet will have got it wrong Wink

BakewellTarts · 06/07/2020 19:42

We talk about stats and risk more than science I would say. And having fun.

Teateaandmoretea · 06/07/2020 19:42

I’m not sure we claim to be scientific experts do we?

The point is the scientists don’t know either Grin

The dementors do though. THEY KNOW EVERYTHING.
Teateaandmoretea · 06/07/2020 19:44

@Drivingdownthe101 exactly that Grin

BakewellTarts · 06/07/2020 19:46

@Teateaandmoretea I agree and those at the extreme will probably have got it most wrong. Generally I think we are a moderate bunch not wedded to extreme views and open to litsening. Unlike some threads.

@justasking111 we have elderly relatives in the Mid West so I understand the worry. I know they are being sensible though and the US is a big place. Certainly where they are there is loads of room for everyone.

torydeathdrug · 06/07/2020 19:48

95% of the crap posted on the CV board has me wanting to weep & rend my hair at the state of UK scientific illiteracy.

Teateaandmoretea · 06/07/2020 19:50

Dementoring is a special kind of science. You take every hypothesis Ithat is negative and turn them into fact because they were written by an expert. You take every real negative piece of evidence (US) you add all these up.

Any positive piece of evidence you multiply by zero. It can be expressed as below:

D = fn + (p x 0)

BakewellTarts · 06/07/2020 19:51

Our next thread title has to be an equation like this!
