Slight tweak to the suggestion, but here it is.

January is a long time Sad

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 22:31

Do you know, even though I'm shitting it a bit about travelling alone, I do feel a little spark of cheeriness tonight, first for ages!

BogRollBOGOF · 05/07/2020 22:33

Our idea of a honeymoon involved:
A flight to Hong Kong.
4 nights in a hostel for Hong Kong.
Visas for China, Mongolia and India.
A flight back from India.
3 months ofg work (why I stayed with supply for a few years).

We made up the rest as we went along. It was incredible. I've watched the sun rise over Mt Everest from the Tibetan base camp.
We slept on the floor of a Mongolian ger (and used toilet pits)
We went through the Three Gorges Dam.
We travelled cattle class in India, and spent many nights on sleeper trains
We went to the Taj Mahal (it was smoggy as usual)
We chatted with other travellers and just made it up as we went along based on what people recommended.

I love watching Race Across the World as it reminds me so much of what we did.

I've spent the evening helping my 17 year old with an art project for her a-level. I'm not in any way arty but she has almost stopped doing any work for school for several weeks. She's demoralised and demotivated so she asked for my help and I had a go. We followed the making instructions and mine went ok but hers didn't. She's now in tears. I told her this was all fine, we've learned what works and what doesn't (also why) so now we are ahead of the game.

She's not convinced. She said "This is just how I feel about all my school work now mum. I can't do it". She really can, she's a straight A student, so this is just the result of having no teaching or encouragement and no pastoral care. Heart breaking.

Allflightscancelled · 05/07/2020 22:35

I'm excited for your holiday, @Mascotte . It'll be a real tonic and make your DP sit up, too

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 22:40

@BogRollBOGOF that sounds amazing! I'm
Planning all sorts of travel as I get older.

Thanks @Allflightscancelled 😊

BogRollBOGOF · 05/07/2020 23:32

The Bogrolls are going on holiday!
Static caravan city on the south coast in mid-August.
Not Mongolia. Nepal or Tibet, but it'll do. I'm pretty easy to please as long as it's not a 5* experience Grin

I can do a bostin' Brummie accent too Grin

Nihiloxica · 05/07/2020 23:34

@Mascotte you won't even be travelling properly alone because we will be with you vicariously, demanding updates and opining on all your adventures.

This.

For everyone going on holiday...We are all coming too.😀😀

fartingsparkles · 06/07/2020 00:02

I thought I had lost you all for a bit 😲

@Mascotte keeping everything crossed for your get away.

@Bubble i am so so sorry to hear about your friend. Huge hugs

@Allflights I can't imagine how tough it must for 6th formers to try to do their work. Its a struggle with junior aged ds.

Dd would not sleep last night. She woke about 10.30 and think it 2am before she gave up again. Bloody damn teeth! She's cutting the big back ones, poor kid. Least she didn't wake her brother.

Bearing that in mind, today has been ok. Another walk, but somewhere we haven't been for a while. 3.5 miles and a nice ice cream later we got home. Our playgrounds are still shut here. They need to be checked over/maintained apparently. Which is fine- but does beg the question why haven't they been checking while they were shut. Its hardly surprising that they would be reopening.

I have been binge watching Car Share after missing it when it was originally on. I finished it tonight. It literally had been laughing and crying. I am emotionally all over the place at the moment. Need to get a grip!

Very pleased to see some supp coming through for theatres etc.

PickAChew · 06/07/2020 00:19

@Ibake

Those are nasty *@pickachew*! Bet the reality is somewhat different too. I like typing the product name into google and adding the word 'review' afterwards. Usually pretty enlightening! Has anyone ever ordered from Shein? I always think their clothes look really lovely but the prices are way too low and the reviews are shocking. Just wondered if anyone had any success with them?
2 of the pictures are identical with different images on the t-shirt so I'm suspecting they're pretty bad.

I hate the M&S website because it just ohtoshops different colour onto things.

I stumbled across Steel Magnolias on tv earlier. So i watched it again for the eleventymillionth time. Cue laughing and crying and laughing again. It's a fab film for letting it all out😄

And welcome to the West Country

LivinLaVidaLoki · 06/07/2020 07:17
@LivinLaVidaLoki We were due to travel on 20 August and got our email last Thursday so I would definitely get on to them. I cancelled online yesterday.. Had a momentary heart failure when it looked as though we would have to pay cancellation charges but it said that this was automatic on the email and we would be refunded the whole amount 3-5 days. I've saved it all out in case of difficulty.

So no holidays at all this year unless we get a few days away in the UK. Perhaps we'll go down to the West Country and see if we can see any locals waving pitchforks.
@MinesaPinot from what I understand we wont have cancellation charges but if we were to rebook another hotel the cost at the moment is huuuuuge.
Its looking like another 500 on top of what we already paid. Considering we already paid 700 to move previously (the price difference from may to August and the loss of a free child place).

Though if they did cancel I may see what Jet2 offer. I just want to see my family again. To sit in the shade under the huge tree in my aunt and uncles garden and eat delicious lamb or pork and cheese or bread and honey while DS plays with my cousins children.
Of all the things planned that's my favourite.

DominaShantotto · 06/07/2020 07:17

And now our local fb groups are full of current teachers touting for tutoring work from worried families. Worked to the bone, not stopped during lockdown, so hard we need a break- or have we been printing a load of shit from twinkl and calling it job done?

NannyPhlegm · 06/07/2020 07:24

@DominaShantotto Our local FB group has the same. I will admit to a raised eyebrow or two

LivinLaVidaLoki · 06/07/2020 07:46

Our local radio station posted on Facebook "so who went to the pub this weekend"
"20 quid for 4 pints and a death sentence. No thanks"
"Well, I work at the hospital so I wont be going for at least another 3 weeks until I know it wont cause a second wave"
🤦‍♀️

Allflightscancelled · 06/07/2020 07:56

Farking hell, Livin!

Who are these people????

Sorry about your travel woes [angry{

Allflightscancelled · 06/07/2020 07:56

Or even Angry

Teateaandmoretea · 06/07/2020 08:03

Tbf I wouldn’t go to a pub if I’d have to give my details for contact tracing. I don’t think this applies outside at our local though because they basically have a field so I may pop up there when it’s quiet.

Blobby10 · 06/07/2020 08:05

PickAChew I get the same advert - all the bloody time! I never had a problem with holes until I got given a bee house and since then its gradually got worse. I had a bottle of gin delivered for my birthday in collapsible honeycomb type cardboard and couldn't even touch it! Had to get one of the kids to put it in the recycling bin straight away - the cardboard, not the gin !!! Grin

Dowser · 06/07/2020 08:23

@BogRollBOGOF
Wow, I’m very impressed.
Fantastic memories.

NothingIsWrong · 06/07/2020 08:27

Another Monday. I'm calling my GP again today as I'm still really struggling

rookiemere · 06/07/2020 08:28

I'd forgotten about track and trace teateaandmoretea. DH has made loads of pub meal bookings when we are away and given his correct name and telephone number in case they need to be changed.

I couldn't bear the thought of a random 2 weeks of self isolating, not because we have the bloody mostly non life threatening virus, but because someone else does, particularly as I think we already had it. I would pretend we all have coughs so at least we'd get tested and then if negative we'd hopefully be able to get out.
