Slight tweak to the suggestion, but here it is.

LivinLaVidaLoki I hung on and hung on and about 3 weeks before we were due to go, we got the 'you are cancelled' email. Then, we had the choice of a credit note plus 20% to book a new holiday, or hang on for a full refund. If you haven't heard from them, I'd take it that your holiday is still on.

countrygirl99 · 05/07/2020 20:15

The meal was chicken in black bean sauce with steamed egg. But so much richer than from a take away. We keep telling GF she should set up a street food van.

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 20:17

@Nihiloxcia if it's more than a fiver, don't let DH know or he'll be straight on the case.

Yum.

DH and DD1 have made dhal for dinner. Looking forward to that. Lentilly goodness.

@Mascotte I’m so pleased you took the plunge! I love hearing about other people’s travel. You know that old thing about being bored stupid by people’s holiday photos? I’m the one sitting there asking if they have any more.

BarkandCheese · 05/07/2020 20:25

Toast for dinner here because we scoffed fish and chips and ice cream at the seaside. I had rhubarb and custard ice cream which was absolutely delicious.

countrygirl99 · 05/07/2020 20:35

We had lovely fish and chips at Wells this week. Made even better by watching families crabbing (sorry, practical biology/environmental science/geography/having fun) while ate them.

I'm currently sauteeing a load of veggies that my friend grew in her garden to go with my roast chicken. Btw have any of you clicked to see why the pillow is the must have gift of 2020 (or are your ads different?). I'm so sick of seeing it that am almost tempted just to see why it's so damn special!

MinesaPinot · 05/07/2020 20:40

@LivinLaVidaLoki We were due to travel on 20 August and got our email last Thursday so I would definitely get on to them. I cancelled online yesterday.. Had a momentary heart failure when it looked as though we would have to pay cancellation charges but it said that this was automatic on the email and we would be refunded the whole amount 3-5 days. I've saved it all out in case of difficulty.

So no holidays at all this year unless we get a few days away in the UK. Perhaps we'll go down to the West Country and see if we can see any locals waving pitchforks.

Mine is telling me I shouldn’t drink £5 supermarket wine.

It is fascinating isn't it. 30 years ago I did a business and marketing degree but it was so generic. I think it must be so interesting to be involved in digital advertising and the info about ourselves that we give up every time we're online. It's personal marketing which I find so interesting. Although also spooky and intrusive!

justasking111 · 05/07/2020 20:50

Escaped to England to collect DS, met halfway so my feet stood on english soil for a few minutes, well costco car park. As we drove back all the signs flashing stay local keep NHS safe. Made a face at each one. Tomorrow we are free to go anywhere in the UK. I shan`t but nice to think I could. Wonder how many will arrive tomorrow in their caravans, tents.

DS is exhausted after so long cooped up this week in England he has been to lakes, shopping centres, today he went from yorkshire to blackpool, then lunch in a pub, then back home. He is asleep now.

Ibake · 05/07/2020 20:52

I can picture exactly which Costco car park you were in @justasking! It's not my go to one (Trafford Centre) but it is if I'm Cheshire Oaking as well.

Ibake · 05/07/2020 20:55

Mad. My advert has now changed to online studying, presumably because I typed degree. Nosy bastards. Shall we have some fun and start discussing some really inappropriate stuff and see what happens?!

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 20:55

Thanks all! I'm nervous but at least I have hope and it's all flexible so I can cancel, or drive home if lockdown anywhere is imminent.

@BarkandCheese me too! I love hearing of others' travels.

Ibake · 05/07/2020 20:57

Where did you choose to go to in the end @mascotte?

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 21:01

Lille, just because a nice looking town near Calais. The coast hotels were all full.

I'm a bit scared of going by myself, but I'm
Looking on it as better than not going, or going with someone who doesn't want to come.

HesterShaw1 · 05/07/2020 21:03

Just watching the start of Dawn of planet of the Apes

Thought it was a documentary Hmm

Ibake · 05/07/2020 21:04

You never know, he might get Fomo and come with you last minute. You can change travellers on your booking last minute on the tunnel. You'll have such a lovely time, change of scene and all that.

HesterShaw1 · 05/07/2020 21:05

Lille is nice. Industrial, but nice.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 21:08

Thanks.. hotel is near the old town so hopefully ok area!

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 21:09

And I don't think he really believes I'll go myself so I must prove myself!

Shodan · 05/07/2020 21:16

@Mascotte I went to Lille a few years ago, for the Christmas markets. I liked it.

I'm glad others have noticed this inability to tune out extraneous noise. I was starting to wonder if it was my extreme old age that was catching up with me...Grin

NothingIsWrong · 05/07/2020 21:20

So if Drakeford opens Wales up, my husband and children will be going for 2 full weeks on 18th July, just after school finishes. I will be staying at home to work.

Going to miss the children, probably won't miss the husband, going to sleep A LOT. And hit my workload with a vengeance.

Two more weeks. I can do this.

PickAChew · 05/07/2020 21:21
@ssd no she's a strictly margarita girlz although it's the ceremony of going out I think she misses most, meeting the waiting staff who spoil her, doing the colouring sheets at the table etc. Hopefully things will open up soon.
Well, it's not the least bit dementory to state that they're being fucking idiots. Though, if you're young and healthy, I can see the draw in hoping to get it over with.
