How tall is your 14 year old son?

millysmoo · 04/07/2020 15:07

My son is 6ft 2, 15 stone and has size 12 feet. He towers over me, his dad and siblings.

I’m 5ft 6 and his dad 5ft 9, so pretty average really. The only other tall relative is his grandad who is also 6ft 2. Has anyone else had this, and what height did they end up?

Well, there you go. Obviously not a fatty. Out of interest, I looked up a few rugby players of my era: Jason Robinson was just under six foot and over 17 stones in his heyday. I've a suspicion not many people told him he was dangerously overweight.

Strongswans · 04/07/2020 18:45

Ds is 14, 5ft 4/5, and about 8 stone, very athletic. He won't ever be very tall but still has some growing in him.

millysmoo · 04/07/2020 18:46

@phoenixearthworm thank you! He is in fact just over 15stone. I keep telling him it’s his great big head (loves himself) 😂

My 14yo is 5 foot 10 and weighs 8.5 stone. My nearly 13yo is 5 foot 1 so there’s a huge gap between them!

PickAChew · 04/07/2020 18:52

My recently 14 yo is about 5'6 and a 7 stone weakling. We struggle to get the calories in him to keep his weight up when he has a growth spurt.

And just a trace of a 'tache.

frustrationcentral · 04/07/2020 20:01

No way does he look 15 stone @millysmoo ! My DS is the same height, also 6ft 2 and he looks very similar build to your DS. He's about 11.5 stone

He doesn't look 4.5 stone heavier than my DS who is also the sporty, athletic type.
PermanentCobOn · 04/07/2020 21:02

5ft 9, not sue of weight but size 32 inch trousers and quite skinny. Eats like a horse, size 10 feet. I'm surprised yours are so tall. My son is one of the tallest amongst his friends.

Ladyflip · 04/07/2020 21:09

My 13yo DS is over 6' and weighs 9'2 with size 10 feet. I'm only 5'6 but dad is 6'8 so a long way to go to catch him up.

millysmoo · 04/07/2020 21:19

Thank you 😊 @frustrationcentral @phoenixearthworm. He is just over the 15stone- we’ve rechecked.
I just told him these comments. He’s well chuffed!

@Ladyflip Wow 6.8! You must feel tiny in comparison. Looks like you DS still has a lot of growing to do!

@millysmoo. Niece doesn't mind being so tall - but her mum (DH sister) is also 6 ft. Niece was a real tomboy throughout her teens and hung around with a bunch of boys (village life! You hang out with whoever is your age and there weren't any girls). She's now 30 and married to a man who is a good few inches shorter than her. I don't think her height has ever bothered her.

DS is worried about being too tall though...people have joked for years that he'll end up about 6ft 9" and he really doesn't want to be. He's ok with the height he is now and I don't think he fancies growing any taller.

He doesn't have any facial hair at all yet (but is blond if that makes a difference)

Ladyflip · 04/07/2020 21:42

@millysmoo yes, DH and I look ridiculous together out in public! DD is 11 and just about to go past me in height, and then I will be the shortest. I am becoming very skilled at telling off lanky teenagers while they tower over me.
DS is also a keen rugby player, but has to develop widthways as well as lengthways.

BarbedBloom · 04/07/2020 21:58

My brother was 6ft 2 at this age. He is 6ft 4 now. I am 6ft 2. Mum 5ft 11 and dad 6ft

Miseryl · 04/07/2020 22:16

My 14 year old is 5'5", about 9st 7lbs.

Slh82 · 04/07/2020 22:19

I think his weight is fine. He doesn't look overweight at all. And 15 stone is still within an ok weight for that height anyway

Zoflorabore · 04/07/2020 22:22

My brother was 6ft 2 at 14 and stopped growing at 6ft 7.

My ds was around 5ft 11 at 14 with size 13 shoe, he’s now 17 and 6ft 2 and his feet have stopped growing thank god but I think he’s still growing in height. His dad is 6ft 3.

TSSDNCOP · 04/07/2020 22:27

I'm 5'9, DH is 6'1" the boy is 5'7" with a gigantic Covid Barnet.

ComeOnGordon · 05/07/2020 07:01

@millysmoo your son looks like he’s a perfect build for his height. This is my nearly 15 stone son - don’t think anyone would say he’s fat either. They’ve got the height to carry all that weight.

BUT if I was 15 stones I’d be putting myself on a diet Grin

MyBingaling · 05/07/2020 07:05

My 15 yr old is 6’4, size 14 feet, about 15 st, too. He towers over his dad and me, and we always thought we were tall Grin.

Forgetaboutme · 05/07/2020 07:16

My 14 year old son is about 5ft 4 (same as me) at the moment. Size 8 feet. His dad is 5ft 9. My son looks tiny compared to his friends but also a lot less spotty / hairy. Maybe a bit behind with puberty. I think / hope he is still due a big growth spurt. The men on my side of the family are all quite tall over 6ft.

AreWeAnywhereNear · 05/07/2020 07:18

My soon to be 14 year old is not even 5ft yet, he's very slow growing - it was affecting him and so DH took him to the doctors and he agreed he's just a slow grower. I call him my oak tree and once he's fully grown I bet he'll be bigger than all of us.

His 15 year old brother, has, during lockdown, passed me in height at 5 10. They are both 'predicted' to be 6 2.

All their friends are a complete mixture of heights, voice pitches and facial hair Grin

op Don't post a weight on MN. It is FULL of BMI worshipers. Your son looks fine to me , very fit and healthy. I know quite a few man ( and women) in my family who all weigh FAR more than they look like they weigh. We are a family of broad shouldered, rangy frames who seem to weigh a lot. The good thing for me is that when I was 12.5 stone (am 5ft 7), I looked very slim and healthy. Most women of my height on here at that weight would be bemoaning how fat they are.

I got married at that weight and was a size 12 in the 90s. Well built fit tall men can weigh much much more than people think and still look slim. My dad was a case in point. He did put on weight when he retired but before that he had a very physical job and was always very slim and fit looking. He was 5ft 11 and weighed around 14 stone . No one lo0king at him would have said he had an ounce of fat on him

I would caution though (for the future) that in my experience, exercise is absolutely key to maintaining this. It is really easy to end up fat. My dad do after a lifetime of being slim because he didn't change his eating habit when his exercise levels fell after retirement. I imagine that if he had had a sedentary job he'd have ended up fat well before middle age

Yester · 05/07/2020 07:41

We are the other way. DS is 6 foot 2 and weighs about 8 stone!
He eats loads but burns it all off. Doesn't bother him too much. I think he will be about 6'6" as his dad's 6'4" and mjne is 6'2"
