How tall is your 14 year old son?

millysmoo · 04/07/2020 15:07

My son is 6ft 2, 15 stone and has size 12 feet. He towers over me, his dad and siblings.

I’m 5ft 6 and his dad 5ft 9, so pretty average really. The only other tall relative is his grandad who is also 6ft 2. Has anyone else had this, and what height did they end up?

Thank goodness for you @ChaoticCatling ! I was just coming on to wonder if mine was an abberation.... He is 14 in December and 5ft, 6 stone and his feet are size 5.

phoenixearthworm · 04/07/2020 16:19

@ChaoticCatling

My 14 year old is 5ft 2, under 7 stone, and has size 6 feet. He is meant to end up about 5ft 10.
Out of interest, how do you know what height he is meant to end up about?
MrsBlondie · 04/07/2020 16:20

Oh my. My 14 year old is about 5ft3. Should I be worried. Seems he is a shortie compared to all these boys! About 7.5 stone

I've used a few online adult height predictors that calculate based on his current age and height, and parental heights. His father is 6ft 3. DS has barely hit puberty, no growth spurt yet, so I do think he will get to about 5ft 10 eventually.

millysmoo · 04/07/2020 16:32

BlessYourCottonSocks how does your niece find being so tall? My daughter is 5ft 10 and hates it. She’s an inch taller than her dad, so I suppose she’s quite tall too.

We haven’t had too many problems with shoes yet tbh. We can still get the ones he likes in a 12. I work in a school and one of our year 10s has size 14 feet. He’s tall, but not overly so. I often wonder where his parents buy his shoes from!

6ft and 11 stone

millysmoo · 04/07/2020 16:35

MrsBlondie I work with year 10, and the height range is huge. I wouldnt be worried at 5ft 3. We have lots of boys who are around that or slightly smaller.

DS says this too - he's 6 foot and the boys in his year group range from up to his elbow to being 3 inches taller than him.
ChaoticCatling · 04/07/2020 16:40

I think around age 14 for boys is when you are going to see the biggest difference in size as some are just starting puberty while others are physically almost fully grown men.

Yes to this too. DS has been talking to his friends online during lockdown and most of them sound like men as their voices have broken a couple or more years ago. I put my foot in it the other day because he was talking to a child so I asked how old they were, it's one of the boys in his year group. Thankfully he couldn't hear me.
netflixismysidehustle · 04/07/2020 16:45

Mine's nearly 14 and 5 foot 8, size 7 feet. His older brother is 6 foot 2 and size 9.5 so I'm assuming that he'll end up something similar.

Georgielovespie · 04/07/2020 16:47

Well Ds2 must be tiny then, he is about 5'6 but is at the start of a growth spurt which Ds1 also did at the same age. He grew about 12cm in one year.

Ds2 was exactly the same height as me when we photographed it just before he was 14 and a week later he was 2cm taller than me. I don't know what he weighs but he is super skinny and has outgrown his size 7/8 shoes over lockdown.

ExhaustedBeyondBelief · 04/07/2020 16:49

Nephew is 6'3.... All muscle.
Weighs about 17 stone and looks like a man !!!!

ExhaustedBeyondBelief · 04/07/2020 16:49

His 14 and wears size 12 shoe

ExhaustedBeyondBelief · 04/07/2020 16:51

Sorry not 17 stone....

Meant to say 12 stone....

netflixismysidehustle · 04/07/2020 16:53

My near 14yo has outgrown all of his uniform and shoes during lockdown. I'd get him a new blazer now but no guarantees he won't outgrow that in 8 weeks

FizzFan · 04/07/2020 16:54

We are similar heights to you and your husband and our 14 year old is same height as me, 5 ft 7

GrumpyHoonMain · 04/07/2020 16:54

The lighter the child, generally, the later the puberty and the taller they can end up. We come from a shortish family (mum 5 ft 4. Dad 5 ft 8) but grandad (and his dad) on one side was over 6 ft 2. Both of my brothers are over 5 ft 11 and one is 6 ft 2. The taller one grew 6 inches over one summer around 15 after being 5 ft 6 for ages, and grew another 2 inches between 16-19.

ComeOnGordon · 04/07/2020 16:59

@millysmoo - I’m 5’9 and exH is 6’3 but he has a brother who is as tall as my DS so it def comes from his side of the family.

He hates being tall despite all the compliments he gets about it - he was always tall and went into puberty early and grew quickly. He’s sadly got stretch marks from it. It’s taking a while for his friends to catch up with him. But he’s so handsome - he really carries his size well - he’s thankfully not a very tall skinny boy - he can carry those 90kg

AngelsWithSilverWings · 04/07/2020 17:05

My 14 year old is 6'3" with size 12 feet. No idea what he weighs. Hoping he stops growing soon. It's already almost impossible to get trousers that reach his ankles!

OldLace · 04/07/2020 17:05

6ft 2" with size 12 feet.
'tache and light beard too.
Early puberty (aged 12)
Not sure what he weighs?
He's a beanpole though.

millysmoo · 04/07/2020 17:11

netflixismysidehustle I know exactly how you feel. It’s a good job my son isn’t in year 10 and back at school, as nothing would fit him!

It’s funny though, as the majority of y10 boys are sporting half mast trousers at the moment 😂

DS1 was about 6ft tall and 11 stone with size 12 feet. He's now 16 and 6ft 2, 11.5 stone and feet haven't grown (thankfully!). His Dad and I are 5ft 7.

DS2 is 11 and 5ft 5, 8 stone and size 9 feet. He's heavy due to a medical condition which we're working on.. He is predicted to get to 6ft, however had he not grown so early he was expected to reach 6ft 4/5 Shock, so I'm quite pleased..

phoenixearthworm · 04/07/2020 17:19

Do your 14/15 year olds have facial hair? Mine has none.

millysmoo · 04/07/2020 17:19

@ComeOnGordon he sounds lovely 😊. Sounds like he was always destined to be tall. I’m glad you’ve said about him carrying his size well. Mine carries his weight really well too. He actually looks like a fully grown adult rugby player. Broad shoulders and muscly legs. I think it’s only his bum fluff beard that gives him away 😂
