Is there any point upgrading just for an extra 3 inches each?

We currently have a double bed, but it's just not big enough, especially during summer when it's too hot to be close. I'd love a super king but I just don't think we'll fit one in without getting rid of our bedside tables (which is NOT an option! They house too much useful junk 🤣).

So obviously the next option is a king size. But is it worth it just for 3 extra inches? Confused

I'm really glad we kept the bedside tables and didn't go for SK, it would have left us with very little space in our room for dressing, accessing wardrobe etc (ours have sliding doors and are alongside the bed) and it's hard enough as it is getting round the sides to change the sheets.

Where do you get a small superking mattress though. The bed link didn't have mattresses for sale to go with it?

Rosapilosa · 03/07/2020 15:31

I was worried about this too and we were so tempted to go super king but we just couldn't have a room that was all bed. We just went up to king in the end and the difference is AMAZING. It's longer as well as wider which does make a difference

Absolutely you feel the difference between double and king. Super king is magnificent but not if you can't walk round the room 😂

Blackbear19 · 03/07/2020 15:41

Another thought changing a king size duvet is bad enough I really don't fancy the battle with a super king which sounds like a pack of fags

Crocky · 03/07/2020 15:47

@BogRollBOGOF

I'm used to a king and sleep very poorly on the occasions that I have to use a double.

I might be small anf short, but I use the width as I roll around a lot in a feral postition.
DH likes the length.

I’d love to know more about the feral positioning? 🤣 King size makes a big difference.

@wantmorenow
The mattresses aren't hard to find on the website Grin

Warren Evans do the small super king size too

AnotherEmma cheers - your googling better than mine.

Definitely pricier than my usual purchases lol.

AnotherEmma · 03/07/2020 16:21

I do think it's worth spending money on a good mattress, since you sleep on it for ~8 hours every night!

If budget allows of course.

amusedbush · 03/07/2020 16:22

We swapped our double for a super king a few years ago and it was amazing to have so much space (we also had a double duvet each!) but it was so massive it was impractical. We could only squeeze one bedside cabinet in and the other side was against the wall so we had to clamber in from the bottom.

We recently moved and bought a king size instead. It’s the perfect size and gives us plenty of room, even with a 6’ 3 DH (and my size 16 arse Blush).

Cooper88 · 03/07/2020 16:26

My DH and I had a double at the start of our relationship, had to change our bed so went for a king and thought it wouldn't make a difference but we dread it when we stay at his parents house where they have a double, it's just too small now. Honestly makes so much difference 🤣🤣

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 03/07/2020 16:32

Ooh I reckon we could just squeeze in a small super! I won't have a great deal of floor space on my side of the bed but that's a small sacrifice I think. We don't have to worry about space for getting dressed as we have a separate dressing room. We do still have other furniture in there though.

I've just turned 29 and I got the bed frame around my 16th birthday so we're well due an upgrade Grin

Seems like I’m the only one who thinks king size doesn’t feel much better! We upgraded from double to king size a few weeks ago and I was disappointed it really doesn’t seem much bigger. Luckily we needed a new mattress otherwise it would have been a waste of money

DeltaAlphaDelta · 03/07/2020 16:40

We went from a double to a king. It makes so much more difference. When we go away and stay in a hotel with a double, i always feel cramped, altho DW always seems to have the same amount of room HmmGrin

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 03/07/2020 16:43

Super King with space/storage under for the junk that is in your bedside tables. Little shelf on the wall each side to replace the surface of your bedside table.

And 2 single duvets so a) your partner doesn’t steal all the duvet or wake you when they turn over and b) much easier to change

Sushiroller · 03/07/2020 16:47

King size will CHANGE your life.

We are now on a super king and I don't think I can on ever go back

AnotherEmma · 03/07/2020 16:53

"Ooh I reckon we could just squeeze in a small super!"
Yay!

Also - I'm jealous of your dressing room!

Jaxhog · 03/07/2020 16:56

God, yes!

Jaxhog · 03/07/2020 16:57

Or an SK. That's even better.

Although you'll never want to stay in a smaller hotel bed ever again.

PhoneLock · 03/07/2020 17:07

Where do you get a small superking mattress though

Isn't that an oxymoron?

We have a superking four poster. Love it.

RandomMess · 03/07/2020 17:29

We got an Ikea bed that is between a king and super king - amazing!

AnotherEmma · 03/07/2020 17:32

Yes Ikea sell EU king size which is 160cm (5'2)

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/07/2020 17:46

Go big!

When you think that a single bed is usually 3ft wide for one person. A standard double gives you 2ft 3in each and a king size gives you 2ft 6in each, so still less than 2 singles. Go for the super king if you can and look at some alternative solutions for bedside tables.
