I wish they'd offer*

Mrsjayy · 03/07/2020 20:45

Aww that's fab you enjoyed it I've not seen it live either so looking forward to tomorrow,

KatyMac · 03/07/2020 21:58

I am loving it!

Lin is a superb lyricist! It's so clever and fun - just like Moana!

PawFives · 03/07/2020 22:44

Brilliant! Really enjoyed that, have seen clips of some of the songs but it’s so much better as a full show. Great staging too.

soanco68 · 03/07/2020 22:45

Loved it. The king was so funny
Love it when entertainment comes with learning.

RiverCrossing · 03/07/2020 22:47

I saw it in the West End and cried throughout much of the second half. Can confirm the effect is the same on TV!

Comefromaway · 03/07/2020 22:48

Was fantastic and great to be able to concentrate on things I missed at the theatre.

However I did prefer the original London cast on the whole.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 03/07/2020 23:18

Just finished watching it and cried buckets. My mum and I wanted to go see it and with trains, hotels and tickets it was going to cost over £500. Massively regretting that decision not to go!

KatyMac · 03/07/2020 23:40

I watched it thinking how different the west end would be next time we can go

Theatres will be shadows of their former selves and tickets will be more expensive - so many changes to come Sad

Hihellohi · 04/07/2020 00:26

I watched it again tonight too.
It was really fantastic
Speaking of atmosphere in the theatre, the only thing I didn’t like was the teenybopper-esque incessant whooping and cheering when I went to see it.
I thought it was just as good on tv - like a previous poster said you see things that wouldn’t see straight on from a theatre seat,

I may have enjoyed it even more this time as I understood the story more.

Ps. If anyone wants to talk about Angelica how she isn’t the loyal sister she makes out to be with her emotional affair of letters then please let’s, it still annoys me so much!!

Murinae · 04/07/2020 09:18

Just tried downloading the app and even though the free trial button is in there it doesn’t actually give you that option.

gotothecooler · 04/07/2020 09:36

Disney removed the free trial a week or so ago

@Hihellohi completely agree that she’s a problematic character. That part of the story is completely made up too - Angelica Schuyler was already married when AH and ES met. The comma in the letter is true though and I think has led to some speculation about their relationship together (AH and AS), but it is only speculation and AS lived in England for many years anyway.

Flamingolingo · 04/07/2020 09:54

TBH I think it was done to give another strong female lead. But it’s a part of the storyline that I’m not keen on

Zhampagne · 04/07/2020 11:28

I find it a very weird take to watch the whole play and take away that Angelica is problematic.

Yes, that plot is poetic licence but without it you wouldn’t have ‘Satisfied’, arguably the best set piece in the show.

icebearforpresident · 04/07/2020 13:23

I stayed up to 1am watching it last night and once DH goes to bed tonight (he’s on the early shift this weekend so will go at 9am) i’ll watch it again. I LOVE Hamilton, saw it in London about 2 years ago and have listened to the soundtrack pretty much constantly ever since.

The first few songs it felt like a film, the atmosphere of the theatre isn’t there, but I was quickly sucked in and completely immersed in it. The way it’s been filmed is so good, you pick up on things you just can’t when you are sitting half way up the stalls. Satisfied was always one of my favourite songs but the way it’s staged is so bloody clever.

For those of you who haven’t noticed, because I only saw it by accident, there’s also an interview with the cast under the ‘extras’ tab.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 04/07/2020 13:59

We didn't start it until 10pm last night so I've only seen up to the interval but I am very impressed so far. They have clearly set out to create an experience which is quite different to being in the theatrical audience. In addition to the three nights when they filmed the live show they must have filmed quite a lot in front of an empty house, because there are several moments where you are on stage with the actors. There is an amazing shot from way upstage when a central character is introduced. The close cameras really help to emphasise little subtleties in the performances, like the implied eroticism between Hamilton and Laurens.

From reading up about Angelica it seems she was a very intelligent woman who had correspondence with Jefferson, Lafayette and Washington.

Vilt · 04/07/2020 19:11

Just waiting for DH to put DD3 to bed and then we're going in! EXCITED

MrsMariaReynolds · 04/07/2020 20:38

I cried buckets for parts that had absolutely no effect on me whatsoever when listening to the album, like Helpless, but it is just so sweet to see their facial gestures up close.
And I found Eliza's gasp really heartbreaking.

gotothecooler · 04/07/2020 20:45

It's funny. I have seen the show several times in London and listened to the soundtrack hundreds? of times over. Today, just today I found myself making a connection with 'Burn', which while I appreciate it's a fabulous song and vocal etc it wasn't until watching yesterday that it struck me as a 'choice' song rather then one I just listen to when listening to the album complete.

I couldn't get enough of it this morning and listed to it over and over again on my 30 minute drive.

I’m waiting for my DH to go to bed so I can watch it again, 1st watch was great but I think I’ll be able to sit back and enjoy the music more now I have a grasp of the plot.

EasilyDelighted · 04/07/2020 21:09

I watched this morning (it's the one time in the week when I can get 2.5 hours of uninterrupted telly watching and no one else wanted to watch it). I've never seen it before, never heard most of the songs, but wow, it was amazing. Will definitely be watching again.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 04/07/2020 21:17

I loved it. haven't seen it in the theatre yet but definitely will do when we're next able to. I though Daveed Diggs (Lafayette/Jefferson) was outstanding (and has the most beautiful smile). LMM is an incredible lyricist and composer. DD(10) and I were engrossed for the whole 2.5h.

Emmie12345 · 04/07/2020 21:20

LMM says the favourite song he has ever written is Wait For It. )
