@tiredanddangerous LMM deliberately chose to censor two and keep one to comply with film rating regulations - he wants kids to be able to see it if they want (not that a change in cert age would necessarily prevent that but it’s probably more to do with it initially being meant for cinema release)

Chimchar · 03/07/2020 09:37

I bought Disney plus last night to watch. Grin
Me and Dd saw it in London. I'm worried that the film won't be the same...the atmosphere and energy in the theatre was something else.

Watching it later with dh and Dd. Other kids have refused to watch...I've put them off buy listening to the soundtrack over and over and over and over.......Blush

Beebityboo · 03/07/2020 09:48

Can't wait! It's my birthday tomorrow so making DH watch it with me Grin

Isadora2007 · 03/07/2020 09:50

What’s it about?

Mrsjayy · 03/07/2020 09:52

Oh I'm excited Dd went out 'specially yesterday for Hamilton snacks and booze will probably watch it tomorrow night, Lin- Manuel and his pony tail on myy

RichardMarxisinnocent · 03/07/2020 10:00

I was really disappointed about not being able to see this as i thought you could only get Disney + for a whole year. I am beyond excited that you can get it for just a month. Planning to sign up later and watch Hamilton this evening. I saw it in London in January and was completely blown away - it more then lived up to the hype and my expectations.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 03/07/2020 10:11

I saw an interview with Lin Manuel Miranda regarding the censoring-he said " I literally gave two fucks for the ratings" because if he removed two it would comply with standard to be disney friendly. love it!!

listsandbudgets · 03/07/2020 10:14

DD is going to her friends tonight to watch it. She's been looking forward to this for months :)

BrokenBrit · 03/07/2020 10:26

Hamilton and Frozen 2!
Exciting weekend in this house Grin.

Mrsjayy · 03/07/2020 10:33

Oh yes frozen 2. Disney+ has been a godsend lockdown Grin

MummytoCSJH · 03/07/2020 11:09

Got disney+ just for this when it was announced! Going to watch it in bed tonight I'm sooo excited Grin

I'm worried that the film won't be the same...the atmosphere and energy in the theatre was something else.

The theatre atmosphere is obviously missing but the camera angles give an up close and personal that the theatre can't offer.

Lin IS Hamilton.

There is an extra layer of connection with the characters these actors bring compared to the London show, I guess because they were written with the casting in mind.

Not to be compared with the theatre experience, but the OG cast really do add another dimension.

And that's on seeing the London show and multiple cast several times over.

I ushered the fam onto the sofa so we could watch at 8am Blush

Sorry, stupid question, but what does OG stand for please? I have seen it in various discussions about theatre and musicals and it seems to mean the original cast but I can't work out what it actually stands for. Or does it not stand for anything and is just a shortening of original?

Mrsjayy · 03/07/2020 11:44

OG is just trendy speakWink for Original (cast)

Thank you!
Zhampagne · 03/07/2020 11:59

OG originally comes from the Crips and stands for Original Gangster.

Itsmemaggie · 03/07/2020 12:00

I’m really excited to see this as I’ve only ever heard great things and I love musicals. Have a bottle of wine and I may go out and get some nice cheese to make an evening of it!!

gotothecooler · 03/07/2020 12:02

In context though it just means the original cast.

I am SO excited to see the original Broadway cast perform it in the film! I saw it on the West End and on Broadway last year so an entirely new cast was performing and while both performances were amazing, there's just something about hearing the voices from the soundtrack sing it live!

Winecheesesleep · 03/07/2020 13:38

We were supposed to see this in London a few months ago but it was obviously cancelled. We'd have been going into it fairly fresh, I've only heard a couple of the songs before.

Do you think I should watch it on Disney+ or wait for my first experience of it to be in the theatre? I've heard some people advise listening to the soundtrack before going so you keep up with it, but when I tried to do that I couldn't work out what was going on!

TIA!

Comefromaway · 03/07/2020 13:42

We are caring for fil just out of hospital & mil with dementia tonight & Dh is working but I’m cooking steak & pasta tonight (we always go to an Italian restaurant pre theatre. Buying M & M’s in a bag rather than am& M world & it’s house lights down at 7.30pm.

Comefromaway · 03/07/2020 13:43

Wine - I saw a bootleg version and it didn’t dampen the excitement of seeing it at the theatre.

It's a different experience to the theatre. It won't spoil your trip when you eventually get it.

We're so looking forward to watching this tomorrow night.
