I have heard from the in laws that Lidl was relatively calm / easy to use. Our Waitrose is city centre and a bit stressful with a one way system but once in not as bad as M&S (but neither very easy to be honest) I was hissed at in M&S so avoid it now

It is true an incident can out you off somewhere.

Yes it's that black and white thinking we talked of with CBT previously I guess. Quite gloomy and cloudy here in the South west, might be less pub dementing if they don't all 'go mad in the sun' or whatever.

Oh I was reading that the gov sent a SWAT team into Leicester, infectious disease experts patrolling the streets etc after the major was disbelieving - sounds very dramatic. Those poor people. Hope they are set free soon.

Orangeblossom78 · 04/07/2020 07:13

"The drastic step of ordering a local lockdown was taken after national health experts, accustomed to tackling emergencies in Africa, were sent to the city and reported widespread flouting of social-distancing measures.

Liking the non dementory replies on this one

Non dementory Scotsman article here www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/columnists/how-snp-politics-putting-some-scots-holidays-sun-hold-susan-dalgety-2902868

Good luck to English ADs today, I would be tempted to go for a pint now if i was down there!

Mrsfrumble · 04/07/2020 08:17

I think MN is particularly bad for people unable to assess risk. Over the years I remember seeing people sincerely argue that you shouldn’t leave your children in the car at a petrol station in case your car explodes, and that baby slings are dangerous because you might fall, land on your front and squash the baby.

Gulliver’s Kingdom in Matlock and the American Adventure were our family theme parks of choice when I was a kid. I remember getting stuck on the giant wavy slide at Gulliver’s when I was tiny and my mum had to climb up and rescue me. And we were at the AA the day the big roller coaster (the missile, I think?) broke down with all the riders stuck on it (not us thank goodness).

rookiemere · 04/07/2020 08:32

Thank you for sharing that article willitneverend sums up how I feel exactly. I have given up on going abroad this summer- as it was becoming a source of financial (definitely not fear of covid) fear - rather than a treat to look forward to.

There does seem to be a huge swathe of presbyterian morality cut through Nicola's actions. I do feel she genuinely can't understand why anyone would want to sip aperol spritz in a sunny atmosphere, rather than battle midges in the rain, similar to those posters trilling that they can't understand why anyone could holiday anywhere, when THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING.

Anyway must chivvy DH to walk the dog, as my cold seems to have abated, because we're going to the zoozoo zoo today.

littlbrowndog · 04/07/2020 08:39

Yeah willitneverend. Time Nicola stopped treating us like children

Midges love me so much.

So fed up with all these petty rules that seem endless. And hard to work out

Am. Sure she would love to close the border 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Orangeblossom78 · 04/07/2020 08:40

Is Nicola not concerned about the impact of mask wearing meaning people won't shop, or that tourists won't visit? Is she not concerned about the impact on their economy, increasingly fragile as it is? Confused What if they do get independence will they not need to stand on their own feet too? She would not be able to keep blaming things on the rest of the UK either then, would she.

Orangeblossom78 · 04/07/2020 08:41

I think they can go now, and the Welsh too but they need to quarantine after.

DominaShantotto · 04/07/2020 08:58

@SeaOtterFluff

I'm so through with it all. I got tutted at in Tesco this evening for not knowing where their secret queuing system started so I "pushed in". I don't normally go to Tesco but I swear there was no visible signage and I was just meant to know because of my psychic link. They've just lost a customer (I'm one to bear a grudge for a long time). Admittedly, I can't see them going onto receivership without my custom but I'm voting with my feet and going back to Lidl. I did notice a couple of people in there with masks but the vast majority were walking about as normal and giving no hoots about 2m or following arrows.
I got yelled at by a staff member in Tesco for the same not knowing a completely unmarked queue system.

Set my anxiety back weeks

Littlebelina · 04/07/2020 09:04

Also agree about people's ability to risk assess , I've had training for work but it's mainly common sense so it's a bit disappointing so few seem to be able to do it!

Just seen that 4 people outside a spoons waiting for brekkie counts as a queue in one of our local papers. Wouldn't be my activity of choice but hardly Brits go wild is it?

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 04/07/2020 09:06

@HesterShaw1 😂 did you ever see the bbc adaptation of Susan Hill’s “woman in black”? 1989 or so. Anyway the closing scene is him in a rowing boat and then he sees her... a tree breaks and falls crushing the boat into the water.

I have only EVER been able to picture that as Roath Park. 😁

littlbrowndog · 04/07/2020 09:10

Yeah Lidl and Aldi seem chilled. No oneway route. Just get on with your shopping same for Poundland

Went to Tesco once and was like this is bizarre way to shop

Never went back

BlackberryViolet · 04/07/2020 09:11

Me and dd1 got yelled at 5 times in town yesterday. If I ever get her out shopping again it will be a bloody miracle. The first time we weren't standing in the blue dots for the till, the blue dots that were hidden behind a shelving unit which we couldn’t see. We walked the wrong way out of a deserted shop as there were no signs to say one way. Then we got yelled at for both being together. Only one of us was allowed in. She’s autistic. I can’t leave her outside. So then we told we would have to stay together but only only one of us can go to the till, so we could shop then she would need to leave while I queue for the till. Fuck that

This is why I won’t be going shopping for the foreseeable.
DominaShantotto · 04/07/2020 09:14

I have things in my diary today

The hairdressers!

Can’t take the kids to the park though - all the local councils are being arses

Drivingdownthe101 · 04/07/2020 09:16

So signs of playgrounds opening here either.

Drivingdownthe101 · 04/07/2020 09:17

*No

littlbrowndog · 04/07/2020 09:17

Markies food is good near me.

No one way. Very chilled and many yellow stickers. 💪

rookiemere · 04/07/2020 09:18

I've had reasonable shopping experiences. I love the entrance lady at M&S at the Gyle encouraging everyone to have a good old browse. I did get told off at the food check out for trying to put my groceries at the end of the conveyor belt ( the non moving bit) as apparently that was not allowed. I think the lady felt a bit bad and gave me extra little shop collectibles, which I then felt obliged to take.

The Next staff have been lovely as well, I always sympathise with them about the sweaty visors, but they do look a bit more comfortable than masks at least.

BlackberryViolet · 04/07/2020 09:18

I am so tempted to take the dog for a walk up the high street tonight to see the carnage first handGrin

Our high street is one with a lot of pubs and restaurants and has turned into a destination for a night out. Saturdays are normally rammed, lots of noise and taxis everywhere. The dog misses the pub (she likes snoozing under the table) and tries to walk in any open door where she can smell beer. If it’s as quiet as I suspect I may take the dog for a pint

Bollss · 04/07/2020 09:19

Our council have said a big fat nowt about playgrounds so I'm assuming they're closed because they hate children. I messaged them but probably won't get a reply until Monday.

Also re shops aldi has been great. Takes a bit of getting used to packing at your car (especially when dp fills the boot with random shite from work and doesn't tell you. Good times!)

dkl55 · 04/07/2020 09:21

Morning all! It's stopped raining in Scotland and a local farmers market is opening so I might wander down. No hot food, chairs, coffees or fun allowed but I may as well go check it out. Grin

SpnBaby1967 · 04/07/2020 09:26

I havent run into any crazy shop workers yelling, the closest I got was our chemist wouldnt let me pay by card as it isnt contactless and wouldnt take cash. Our co-op is nice & normal.

So my cough is causing major problems with my asthma. Did the online triage at the Drs, noted I dont have covid as I've been tested. They rang me, "we dont deal with coughs anymore, you need to go to the walk in to check you dont have covid"
Told the woman that I had put on the form that I had a negative result so its "just" a cough. Well that blew her tiny little mind, she didnt know what to do. So I got a bunch of antibiotics shoved at me and told I need an asthma review, except they arent doing asthma reviews. So just go back to the top of the step down programme and if it doesnt work, go back to the top again and repeat ad infinitum I guess.

Oh, couldn't add my name to the places list (who was doing it? ) but I'm East Anglia.

As kids we used to go to Wicksteed Park, its closed now which is a shame as it's been around since the Victorians but it was showing its age & couldn't compete with the newer theme parks

Worldgonecrazy · 04/07/2020 09:32

Happily waiting for breakfast at the best place in Lyme Regis. (Town Mill Bakery if you’re heading this way!)

Also happy to report many caravans on the road. The country is waking up 😃
