Sorry it’s a bit of a lame title.

Haha @Dowser at least they understood in the end and @Allflightscancelled oh no I bet you were mortified!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 03/07/2020 12:08

I was in one country but flying American Airlines. Didn’t realise once I passed through their gate I’d be on “American soil”. They wouldn’t let me take my filthy foreign veg smoothie through I’d literally just bought. So I had to stand there making eye contact with humourless American border control as I forced myself to suck and swallow a 16oz of veg juice. It may not have done my stomach any good at the start of a long fight - but I’ll be damned if I’m putting my drink in the bin.
Stick around for more stories of cutting off my nose to spite my face.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 03/07/2020 12:08

I think that might be something in the new school guidance - something about they can do non residential trips...

Might help with the course work -trips.

Though live performace trip isn't going to happend for Drama - and shopping center trip for Geography usually shopping center in next city is in receivership so may not be open so might just be able to do landscape one.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 12:12

Willit also seems to be kind of daft considering she's having schools back as normal too?

The paint mixing is daft isn't it! I agree just go elsewhere. People will vote with their feet

Hope that works - Will someone let me know if they can open the link to our locations.

I can't upload an excel chart directly and pictures don't work to read as too small

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 12:14

What concerns me is that independence is being taken away in terms of these trips and confidence is gained from them, an important step in growing up and away. Mind you will not miss paying for very expensive ski trip for one of ours, I guess can take them ourselves next spring.

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/07/2020 12:14

Yes I am voting with my feet. Local co-op is great, staff are friendly, everyone being sensible. It’s far more expensive than Tesco, but Tesco is full of people barking orders and glaring when you step a foot ‘wrong’, and has a nonsensical one way system. So I’ll shop at the Co-op! I can’t wear a mask so won’t go anywhere that requires them.

BakewellTarts · 03/07/2020 12:16

Hi all, busy morning kitting the girls out for school next year. Spent £££'s. But supporting a local business so that makes me feel a bit better.

I'm in Herts now (Is that South, South East or East Anglia? I've been here 20 years but am never sure) but still have a foot in the Midlands (born in Derbyshire but you might have guessed that from my name).

Allflightscancelled · 03/07/2020 12:16

@IAintentDead I can see it but I'm not on it Grin

You can put me down for Coventry (most of the time) or Dorset (whenever possible)

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 12:17

Driving make sure you get a Co-op card! You get money off and it adds up. Like the old co-op stamps.

I'm avoiding Tesco too, felt like criminal when I asked to be let through their makeshift barriers because I had forgotten stuff. Morrisons and Asda are a lot more pleasant. Co-op and Sainsbury's Local are alright too although the Co-op have made some barriers at the tills so you can't get too close. Nightmare with a pushchair.

I have moments of wondering if I'm mad and the rest of the world is sane, but I understand statistics better than average (I have taught it to undergrads so this is not an idle boast) so I am reasonably sure it's me not the nutters on my Facebook.

Have been intrigued in particular by some of my Facebook friends who went from calling Boris a literal fascist to demanding he strip them of their civil liberties within days. Very strange phenomenon.

I am also a bit of a rule questioner by instinct. My parents always were, particularly my mum, so I think they passed it on to me.

Cattermole · 03/07/2020 12:22

@IAintentDead I added a comment - thank you for putting this together, I haven't got a bleddy clue about this modern technology!

I gave in and bought bare minimum. Couldn't decide what to do for best for ages.

I have a Y6 so there little choice but to get but secondary currently having them in with none - uniform but then sent uniform guidelines out to y6. Plus Y8 had out grown some bits. I've got some and will have to get more later if they do need it.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 12:33

Times is giving us a humorous guide to our new freedoms including crisps Grin I prefer this to the BBC's 'how to socialise now' dementoring.

"opening of a packet of crisps and laying it flat on a pub table is not covered by government guidelines, but sharing a packet is allowed within a household or its support bubble. This may involve pushing a packet across a table.."

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 12:34

Just before lockdown managed to make it to a second hand uniform sale for the new yr 7 so that was good. I remember taking the bus and feeling slightly anxious!

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 12:35

PS I think the new school guidance says uniform as normal but relaxed on ties and blazers?

I naively thought people would talk about stuff such as that on the schools guidance thread but sadly they just dementored all over it...

This is the same list in name order in case you are looking for someone specific

Orangeblossom78 · 03/07/2020 12:39

That guide is quite funny on the Scottish and Welsh

The authorities in Scotland and Wales have not relaxed restrictions and require people to stay within five miles of home. Welsh guidance is specifically hostile to outsiders and prohibits holidaymakers from outside until at least July 13.

In Scotland, two households can meet with a maximum of eight people and people are encouraged to play golf, hike and fish.

Welsh people are not allowed to get a haircut until after a review on July 9 and are only allowed to leave a five-mile radius of their home with “a reasonable excuse”, which includes going for a cycle ride. Outdoor sports facilities can open including basketball courts, although only with games between one or two households. You can go camping, but only in your own garden.

Allflightscancelled · 03/07/2020 12:39

Thanks, IAintentDead

Bollss · 03/07/2020 12:41

I need to get ds's uniform. No idea how much it is going to cost me Confused

It'll only be the tops, jumpers and a book bag I need to get from the school shop. Trousers and shoes and pe kit ill probably just get from Asda or Matalan. Struggle finding trousers that fit him because he's very long and skinny!

Littlebelina · 03/07/2020 12:44

Forgive ADs, I've just wiped down some shoppingBlush. Got a couple of bits, the woman serving me was wearing gloves but coughing vigorously over them before handling the shopping. She did apologise and say she had swallowed something the wrong way but it's the only time I thought, you know what I will give that a quick wipe when I get back. Please don't kick me out.

Apart from that dd and I have had a lovely morning pottering, spotted a new ice cream place to try when ds isn't in school and fed ducks

I haven’t even thought about school uniform yet! Ours don’t have anything that they can’t get from the supermarkets though. Logo stuff isn’t compulsory and the girls don’t like the logo cardigans anyway. I have book bags and PE bags already so no worries there. They need new pinafores/polo shirts/skirts etc but will just order online at some point over the summer. Shoes will be the arse as I’ll have to take them somewhere to be measured and I can’t be bothered with it!

IAintentDead · 03/07/2020 12:51

@Allflightscancelled
Sorry for missing you off. Does Coventry come under East or West Midlands for the main column. I'll put the towns in the extra bit.
