As did my parents. I was always more interested in French sweets.

Mascotte · 01/07/2020 20:39

"Very bad kids" were my dcs favourites 😃

Dowser · 01/07/2020 20:40

Ah, so good I posted it twice
Doh
Why didn’t it post the first timee

BakewellTarts · 01/07/2020 20:40

@Mascotte

I just need a change of scene. My DP won't come cos of the Covid and I'm stir crazy. I have two weeks child free while they're with their dad.
I'd go for it. Love a road trip and can completely understand the need for a change of scene.
BarkandCheese · 01/07/2020 20:41

I used to like those very chewy, slightly bitter caramels in yellow wrappers with jokes or trivia on the inside. I bought some last time I was in France and they were a full on proustian rush moment.

MagdaS · 01/07/2020 20:44

@Mascotte I would do it. My kids and DH go away with the ILs every year for two weeks and one year I flew to Vienna on my own for a long weekend. It was absolutely amazing.

thenightsky · 01/07/2020 20:45

Lille is nice. I once went to the Christmas market there. If you don't want to drive too far, then the old part of Boulogne is great for a day or two. Also, a bit further, La Touquet is one of my favourite places.

countrygirl99 · 01/07/2020 20:48

Fuck, fuck fuck.
Just had a call from mum and my 93yo dad has had yet another fall and been taken to hospital. She has early stage dementia and getting info from her is tricky to say the least. She said ambulance has just left but timescales are flexible in her head. I'll phone the hospital in an hour but I've checked the website and it's no visiting.

BakewellTarts · 01/07/2020 20:51

@countrygirl99 oh no that's worrying. are you far away from them?

Bollss · 01/07/2020 20:51

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear that. Is it possible to speak with your dad directly? I know it's not the same as visiting but it might be some comfort to you both Flowers
Mascotte · 01/07/2020 20:53

Thanks, ADs, I think you've given me confidence to know I'm not mad for wanting a wee trip... I can do this! I'll book cancellable in case I'm not allowed by NS.

Mascotte · 01/07/2020 20:53

@countrygirl99 💐

countrygirl99 · 01/07/2020 20:58

Trustthegenegenie I doubt he has his mobile turned on let alone with him. He only uses it if he is out without mum in case of emergencies. And knowing my dad he would tell me is is fine and not to worry even if his leg fell off as was being taken to theatre for heart surgery.

Dowser · 01/07/2020 20:59

@BarkandCheese
I think it one of the few places we didn’t get to but it sounds my kind of place
If memory serves me well, it was the very end of the 192, we were at the other end of the 192, about 5 miles before the turn off for the 27

Mr Dowser doesn’t like florida and doesn’t want to go long haul since his stroke so I think chances of going again are slim
I’m not sure if I’d like to drive around there anymore l the last twice we went was after the villa had been sold. He never came to the villa and for me it was never the same.

My daughter got married in mt Dora which is just beautiful up there, Proper olde worlde and no chain restaurants, overlooking lake Dora.
I wanted to get married there, but couldn’t afford to pay for my 10 familY for 2 weeks and it was no good going for a week, so I paid for them to go to Tenerife for a week Instead
It was still lovely and less than a cost of a modest wedding in the uk.
Argh, lovely memories.
I went about 40 times.

Bollss · 01/07/2020 21:00

Ah bugger. Yeah I know what you mean, my mum is the exact same! Only told me she was having serious testing done for something pretty scary after the fact.

I hope the hospital will let you know how he's doing at least. Will your mum be ok alone?

Teateaandmoretea · 01/07/2020 21:04

I’m feeling optimistic apparently govt officials have visited swimming pools. Maybe they needed to know what they are..? Grin

It will make such a difference to the dds to get back in the pool 🙏

Teateaandmoretea · 01/07/2020 21:04

SpnBaby1967 · 01/07/2020 21:07

Ugh, I have a cough. It's really hurting me. Makes my whole chest rattle & occasionally bring up stuff. I feel like I can't fill my lungs. Literally walking has me shot. Covid test negative.

I'm asthmatic & have hayfever but maybe a chest infection? It's impossible to see my GP these days so I'm fed up & pissed off.

Dowser · 01/07/2020 21:07

@countrygirl99
I’m so sorry.
What a worrying thing to happen
Please have a virtual hug.
These situations are the real casualties of this awful mess we are in. No two ways about it
Been chatting to my cousin in London for an hour. She’s trying to take care of her mum with dementia ( and now can’t stand) with the aid of carers
She’s going to put her into respite as they have a break coming up in the full knowledge that she probably will stay here.
The tragedy is she can only visit for one hour a week... socially fucking distanced

It’s so not right and I’m so cross for everyone caught up in the crossfire
Our elderly and vulnerable and children are the casualties of this war

I want to scream, make it stopppppp!

SpnBaby1967 · 01/07/2020 21:08

@countrygirl99 thinking of you! Flowers

countrygirl99 · 01/07/2020 21:17

I've managed to speak to SIL, she and DB1 live in the same town as my parents. Feeling a lot better. It sounds like the fall has clattered his arthritis rather than anything being broken and they are on standby to collect him. Apparently the ambulance was on it's way when he fell as he had called 111 about swollen hands and feet and the GP would only give him a phone consultation. FGS he's 93 with multiple health issues it makes me so angry. But of course not covid so doesn't bloody count.

BakewellTarts · 01/07/2020 21:19

Well that sounds more positive. Hope he can get back home soon. And current care is rubbish.

Dowser · 01/07/2020 21:19

It’s funny , but I was going to ask what everyone’s Covid plan was

I’d vapourise or nebulise colloidal silver with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in it.

A teaspoon takes about 45 mins. It’s meant to be really effective
If you don’t have a nebuliser , one of these rechargeable vaporisers costs about £11-50 From amazon or ebay
Food grade h2O2 is available from health leads and pro colloidal silver sell cs online if there’s no health shop near you.
It keeps for ages.
My husband read taking a couple of aspirin helps
I’d also Increase vit c , zinc ascorbate, multi b vitamin drops as well

AD's say "well open the playgrounds and swimming pools then you Malaka"
Dowser · 01/07/2020 21:20

I’d also increase vit d3 with k2

Dowser · 01/07/2020 21:22

From a health site I’m on

  1. Asthma

Often triggered by bronchial infections or an allergic reaction, asthma affects more than 22 million Americans. Nebulizing asthma with colloidal silver helps eliminate the problem, killing pathogens. Silver also helps combat mold-causing asthma.
