My partner has turned yellow and I am scared

Over the last couple of weeks his skin and eye whites have turned yellow, he also has dark urine which has not improved despite upping his fluid intake by at least an extra 2 litres a day, he is more tired than usual too. I don't want to scare myself witless and Google. He has called the GP and is having blood tests tonight.

I know it's more waiting but you're another step closer to answers. Hope you're both holding up

Ginfordinner · 13/08/2020 16:58

Hello BWC. Had adopted Mom and birth Mom go through this. I cannot imagine what you are/must be thinking at the moment. My heart goes out to you. The PET scan is to find if the cancer has spread to different parts of the body. Apparently if it has spread it will 'light up' on the scan like tiny lights in the dark. Birth Mom had a PET scan, her cervical cancer was the primary site, and the liver was the secondary. The liver was undetected until the PET scan, she had no symptoms at all.

Adopted Mom had all the symptoms you have described about your DH. She had pancreatic cancer.

Fingers, toes and everything crossed that the PET scan comes back negative

Big virtual hugs sent your way!!!

aibutohavethisusername · 13/08/2020 22:17

Thinking of you still.

notapizzaeater · 13/08/2020 22:28

We didn't get a treatment plan (or anything really) till we'd had the PET, the CT, the biopsy - for us it seemed to take forever but it's better they know everything and had discussed it at the MDT so they can give you the full picture and any options.

CoffeeRunner · 13/08/2020 22:28

All the best OP. Thinking of you both. The not knowing I think is the hardest part Flowers.

catchingzzzeds · 14/08/2020 07:52

Good luck with the scan today x

Chapellass · 14/08/2020 14:26

Thinking of you both today OP, all crossed for some positive news and at least clarity for you

DastardlyDog · 15/08/2020 08:12

Hope the PET scan went ok and you've got some more clarity about what the treatment plans are. The waiting is definitely the worst bit x

PeterPiperPumpkin · 15/08/2020 13:02

In my thoughts and hope you get the results very soon.

NinkiNonkiNikau · 17/08/2020 04:18

Fingers crossed

Hep A is passed by oral faecal route so providing he follows meticulous food hygiene he will be ok from that point of view. His bile duct is obviously blocked, cause unknown.

UggyPow · 17/08/2020 07:11

I have read through this undecided as whether to post - this does sound different as my husband, definitely felt unwell & wasn’t actually able to eat. He had Ampullary cancer which is very rare & it wasn’t even considered a possibility in someone only 40, which had wrapped around the bowel. He was not a candidate for the whipple.
The time frame from failing ill to diagnosis was 2 1/2 months & then 3 weeks to be seen at The Christie - it is hard but there are so many specialists talking to each other behind the scenes so lots is going on that you don’t see. Sending 💐
Financially you need help to get the PIP forms filled in - a nurse at the hospital who was also a Macmillan nurse did this for us & it was backdated to the application date when it was granted. Re sick pay- sometimes employers have schemes to help people with serious illnesses which is also worth looking into.
I wish I had known about the group on here as I felt very alone & if I can answer any questions I would be happy to.

I hope your are all doing as well as can be op. I’ve just caught up on your most recent updates. Nothing as scary as scancer but I’ve been pushed to and fro via the nhs when my baby was ill at 6 weeks and if it wasn’t for addenbrookes finally doing something he could have died. I found them to be the best of a bad bunch at the very least, although I appreciate that’s probably not much comfort right now xx

catchingzzzeds · 18/08/2020 15:36

@bloodywhitecat how are you both doing? You pop into my head regularly and I hope that you're getting somewhere

bloodywhitecat · 19/08/2020 19:43

@Pixxie7

Hep A is passed by oral faecal route so providing he follows meticulous food hygiene he will be ok from that point of view. His bile duct is obviously blocked, cause unknown.
You're a bit late to the party. There's a tumour. Wrapped around his bile duct so all the hand hygiene in the world won't cure that.

bloodywhitecat · 19/08/2020 19:47

We know the tumour is wrapped around the bile duct and the ampulla has been mentioned in the latest endoscope report. We now know that the PET scan was clear so we know there's no spread but the biopsy was inconclusive. Again. I mean how the hell? We have to wait until the MDT at Addenbrookes on Monday to find out what's next but I am guessing they will want to go in and look/remove.

@UggyPow Thank you, I had read a bit about ampullary cancer in the wee small hours of the morning when I can't sleep. I am sorry to hear about your DH, cancer is a bastard.

DastardlyDog · 19/08/2020 20:11

very good news on the PET scan but argh at more waiting!!

Friend of ours had bile duct cancer which took an age to diagnose but when they had the PET scan it had already spread so if it is something like that, it does sound like they've picked it up early. Fingers crossed

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/08/2020 21:33

I'm so glad to hear the PET scan is clear
Hoping for good news for you both on Monday
Thinking of you Thanks
