My partner has turned yellow and I am scared

Over the last couple of weeks his skin and eye whites have turned yellow, he also has dark urine which has not improved despite upping his fluid intake by at least an extra 2 litres a day, he is more tired than usual too. I don't want to scare myself witless and Google. He has called the GP and is having blood tests tonight.

@bloodywhitecat Sending you love and hugs. You sound awesome.

FridaKFangirl · 22/07/2020 23:35

@bloodywhitecat, you sound amazing! 💐

just saw your post about needing to chat to your landlady. I know from experience that Macmillan can offer grants and financial welfare advice to help with things like Bills/rent etc

Just found number it’s 0808 808 00 00 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm)

saraclara · 22/07/2020 23:50

The Macmillan benefits advisor was amazing for us. She sat on our sofa and filled in every single form for us. She knew exactly what we qualified for, knew exactly what to say in the various boxes to ensure that we got it, and we didn't have to think for ourselves or stress about any of it at all. We just signed on the dotted line and she even posted the applications for us.

Please don't hesitate to call them. There can be some variety in the help you get from region to region, but they do far more than simply provide nurses. They can be a fantastic resource.

All the best.

I have nothing useful to say but I want to wish you and your family all of the best. I am so pleased you have had a little bit of good news today and hope it continues once DH has had the op on Friday.

I hope the little one doesnt stay awake all night. Flowers

iamMadameX · 23/07/2020 01:13

So sorry to hear it was bad news, I know this is a funny thing to say but getting jaundice was good in a way . Unfortunately pancreatic cancer is the worst cancer to detect and if the tumour is the wrong side, you get no symptoms at all until too late but as you've learnt if the tumour is on bile duct side you get jaundice.

I know you must be so worried but due to his age and early detection, he has very good chance off beating this.

I lost my mum to pc and she had no symptoms at all so discovered to late, plus was in her 80s

I wish you and your partner well and best wishes in fighting this terrible disease

Thinking of you op x

bloodywhitecat · 23/07/2020 18:05

So today DP has developed an infection, he has low sodium so is now on a drip for that too. They have done a chest x-ray. They are talking about pancreatic or bile duct cancer (a cholangiocarcinoma).

To add to the fun a power line came down in the trees opposite our house so I am home with two babies and no electricity, we have no gas. Luckily a neighbour managed to fill me some flasks before his power went out too and it is Thursday so the fish and chip van is in a nearby village so he drove there to pick me up fish and chips. I must've been bad in a former life! Grin

My word, OP. It never rains but it pours! You sound like you're coping extremely well under the circumstances. Hope the infection clears soon. Flowers

Hi, I'm so sorry, I've been watching your post and holding my breath for you. I didn't want to comment as I've got experience with Cholangiocarcinoma and could see many of the symptoms but was very much hoping it wasn't this and I'm not a medical expert. Cholangiocarcinoma is very rare in fact I understand one of the rarest but fast growing cancers. I ended up reading so much and understanding about this a few years ago. There is an excellent Facebook support group I used when I needed help and advice. Lots of advice on global research and treatments but most of all for me it was an excellent support for someone caring for a loved one with bile duct cancer. You sound like an amazing loving and caring person. This will be an awful shock for you all. Please do try and link up on the Facebook support page. I don't know if we can message direct as I'm Fairly new on here but do let me know and will be mire than happy to chat. Hope Little and Bug babies are doing ok.
catchingzzzeds · 23/07/2020 18:55

I hope the hospital can sort out the infection quickly. Once that's sorted hopefully you'll find out what you're dealing with.
Keep going, you're doing great.

@@PeterPiperPumpkin what a lovely post x

ThickFast · 24/07/2020 06:54

Oh my goodness what a nightmare for you with the electricity as well. It must be exhausting for you.

Chapellass · 25/07/2020 15:12

How are you OP and your DP? Did he have his biopsy on Friday? Thinking of you all x

2018SoFarSoGreat · 25/07/2020 18:18

Just checking in to see how you and little and big baby are doing. I'm in awe of you, OP. What a lovely human you are.

My good friend has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He's perfectly well, and it was caught by sheer chance. We are quite shocked but hopeful. There are good outcomes. I so hope that happens for your lovely DH. 💐

KittyHawke80 · 25/07/2020 18:35

I think a lot of us are thinking of you, OP. Keep talking, if it helps, when you can x

bloodywhitecat · 25/07/2020 19:45

He had an ERCP (Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) as planned yesterday, no tumours were seen inside the ducts but the doctors are still working on a diagnosis of pancreatic or bile duct cancer so we are not out of the woods yet. His pancreas has stopped producing the enzymes needed to digest food meaning he was malnourished, he has been put on Creaon and is no longer pooing 12-15 times a day. His urine is now Lucozade coloured instead of like rust and his eye whites are returning to white. His skin colour is slowly improving. His energy levels are massively improved, he hasn't spent the whole day asleep and can walk more than 100 steps without needing to rest. It transpires he has been stopping 3 or 4 times a day at work to nap but has been awake all day today.

We are by no means out of the woods, the future is still very uncertain but today has been a boringly normal day and long may it continue.

Some good news there, then. It's sounds like he's been very stoic, OP. I admire you both tremendously x

That’s great news. How’s he emotionally?

bloodywhitecat · 25/07/2020 20:06

He no longer thinks he's dying which he has confessed he did (and so did I, I wasn't sure we'd get to Christmas to be honest). We have been able to talk and use the word cancer which we haven't been able to do. He wants to take each day as it comes, we know he's being discussed at the MDT again this week but until we hear more we are not going to dwell on what might be, we are going to enjoy the boys and annoying each other like couples do.

Thinking of you, I know too well what pc is like, hopefully, if it is pc, he will be able to have a whipple operation. Glad he's on the creon. Is he still getting the itching? I'm fairly sure my mum had meds to stop the itching.

The itching is subsiding now the stent is draining the bile.

Sounds more positive all round. Glad you've had some normality today with the usual irritations and mundaneness (is that a word??)
You've more ahead but I'd say Round 1 is a home win!
Keeping you and the family in my thoughts and prayers Thanks
