My partner has turned yellow and I am scared

Over the last couple of weeks his skin and eye whites have turned yellow, he also has dark urine which has not improved despite upping his fluid intake by at least an extra 2 litres a day, he is more tired than usual too. I don't want to scare myself witless and Google. He has called the GP and is having blood tests tonight.

Yes LadyEloise - I learned that when an ex colleague many years ago so she had to have regular iron check-ups. I wonder why it's peculiar to the Irish in particular? Is it prevalent in any of the nations that invaded us I wonder? I'm thinking the Vikings etc.?

GimmeAy · 05/07/2020 12:37

learned that *from not when

chaoticisatroll55 · 05/07/2020 17:19

Does he drink heavily?

OP didn't say that, poster who said that, was talking to a previous poster and was basically telling the poster with the question about drinking to go back and read the thread fully.
I went back through the OP:s posts in under 2 minutes and could see that she has clearly stated that her husband isn't even a moderate drinker, by today's standards.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/07/2020 19:25

Nevertheless, others will now think that is the case. I hope the post is removed before OP sees it.

@chaoticisatroll55

Does he drink heavily?
AGAIN not every liver issue is related to alcohol.

Please educate yourself

GimmeAy · 05/07/2020 22:04

Why the heck was my post deleted. Lord above.

GimmeAy · 05/07/2020 22:06

I would hope that anyone with two brain cells would see that I was being sarcastic - you know that famous British humour?? Ye that should be deleted too for being untrue.

justasking111 · 07/07/2020 22:27

@bloodywhitecat I hope you are getting somewhere with the NHS now.

FatherBrownsBicycle · 08/07/2020 08:21

@bloodywhitecat

I saw your post on another thread. Did they do a scan?

bloodywhitecat · 09/07/2020 20:33

@FatherBrownsBicycle Not yet. He attended A&E as so many on here advised and got sent away to go back to his GP to ask for a 2 week referral and after much to-ing and fro-ing with the surgery the next day this was finally made yesterday. He has an ultrasound booked for the 17th and we are waiting to hear about the 2 WW appointment.

He is yellow and got sent away from A&E......

@DontWantToAdult

He is yellow and got sent away from A&E......
I can believe that 100%.
DivGirl · 10/07/2020 06:47

He'll have been sent away from A&E because it's neither an accident nor an emergency. It's already being investigated by a medical professional.

Jaundice shows the liver is struggling but he's still working so not hugely fatigued, his skin isn't intensely itchy, he doesn't sound encephalopathic, he's not in great pain, you haven't said he's vomiting everything he eats or is having frequent diarrhoea, he hasn't vomited blood, he's not rapidly losing weight.

Jaundice isn't great and definitely needs fairly urgent investigation, but in the grand scheme of liver failure (and especially after GP investigation), it's not an emergency.

bloodywhitecat · 10/07/2020 07:57

@DivGirl.

He was sent to A&E on the advice of a nurse from the British Liver Trust. He has lost a stone and a half in five weeks. His skin is intensely itchy. He comes home from work at 5, eats then falls asleep until the next morning.

Bloodywhitecat. Nothing useful to add but I'm so sorry you're both going through this and the frustration when nothing moves very quickly. Hope you get some answers/treatment very soon.

FeistyPigeon · 10/07/2020 08:24

sorry to hear this and that it's still a worry for you not knowing what's happening

hope he manages to rest in the 2 weeks till the scan

How do you know all this? Are you a Liver consultant?
Emmmie · 10/07/2020 08:29

A colleague woke up with looking yellow. Her condition was pancreas related. Wishing your partner the best of luck and a speedy recovery.

JollyHolly30 · 10/07/2020 09:22

Keeping all my fingers crossed that you have a diagnosis and treatment plan for your husband as soon as possible, OP

ColdOopNorth · 10/07/2020 09:43

There are a lot of reasons why someone can develop jaundice (a yellowish colour of the skin and conjunctiva caused by bile pigments) some serious, some not so serious. If he is well in himself I would let GP handle it but, as others have said, if he starts to deteriorate and you are worried just go to A&E and they will get him scanned and seen probably by a surgeon. Hope everything turns out well for you

bloodywhitecat · 11/07/2020 12:15

Finally some progress. An urgent letter from the consultant arrived this morning describing DP as "grossly jaundiced", he is being booked for an urgent CT scan and he's to have further bloods taken on Monday morning to check his levels for pancreatic cancer. Scary but at least we have progress.
