Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”

BebeGlazer · 25/06/2020 15:07

The local police and council have now declared that Bournemouth beach is scene of “major incident” because people will not stay away. Overcrowding, littering, desperately dangerous parking.

Please, please, think kindly before travelling to small seaside towns at the moment. We cannot cope.

Oh, and I'm no big fan of our council as a rule. In this one instance, I'd say they did the only thing they could.

BostonCheers · 25/06/2020 23:16

But @wildone84, these beaches do not belong to the locals. People who happen to live near beauty spots do not own them and everyone has a right to visit them if they want to.

Lardlizard · 25/06/2020 23:17

Most of it is fake news/ click bait shit !

pallisers · 25/06/2020 23:18

I've got friends and family living in Bournemouth and Christchurch, one friend living very close to Bournemouth beach and it doesn't tally with what she said about it today.

wow. Your friend should get onto the council and the police and ask them why they are wasting time and money making stuff up.

SusieOwl4 · 25/06/2020 23:18

I have seen video taken by a local resident of the rubbish everywhere. It’s disgusting.

And typical that they blame the government ,the council, the police, the media . Anyone else but themselves.

Me me me .thats all they care about .

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 23:19

@BostonCheers

No, but we do pay handsomely via our council tax for those beaches and other facilities so that we and visitors can enjoy them in relative peace and safety.

@Lardlizard

I live here. I beg to differ.

LadyGAgain · 25/06/2020 23:19

No you nailed it @OldQueen1969

I don't know what part of "the virus hasn't gone away" people aren't getting.

And yes. I know how fed up people are. I know we want to have joy and party and family and friends and and and..

Do I think we should be in total lockdown now? NO

Do I think we have to get the economy moving? YES

Do I think that happened in Bournemouth (and many coastal towns/cities - and yes, I live by one) was sheer stupidity? YES

And finally, 33 tonnes of rubbish cleared over night. Slovenly, disgraceful, vile humans. FFS. Pick your rubbish up and take it home. The sense of entitlement in this country amongst some (thankfully not all) is astounding.

BostonCheers · 25/06/2020 23:21

@SusieOwl4

I think a good way of dealing with the rubbish could perhaps be for local residents and businesses to come together for a mass litter-pick.

That way it can be cleared in a way that is cost-effective and allows the residents to appreciate the positive impact tourism has on their area.

Miljea · 25/06/2020 23:21

Fuck, by tomorrow they will have cleaned 100,000 tons of toxic waste off the beaches!

Newbeginningforme · 25/06/2020 23:22

Social distancing aside being abusive, shitting in gardens, parking dangerously, dropping at least we tonnes of rubbish is disgusting and lockdown is no excuse for this behaviour.

The violence is not an isolated incident either. Exmouth a few days a go, South Wales tonight (Locals I believe). July 4th is going to be bad.

frumpety · 25/06/2020 23:22

@Miljea so what you meant to say was there weren't any more admissions than usual for a hot day in June ? Not that no-one turned up, which makes it sound like the staff had a lovely day fighting over who was going to check the resus trolley and restock the fluids cupboard !

PeasInAPot · 25/06/2020 23:24

@Miljea I really dont fully understand your posts. It would help if you stopped being so cryptic and just spat it out

Your friend, an ED consultant saw no extra admissions?

Tbe hospital declared a major incident standby, they were prepared for a major incident. I dont see how an ed consultsnt would have had time to a)see if there was going to be a rise in admissions and b) let you know

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 23:24

@BostonCheers

I think you'll find that the town is voluntarily ahead of you actually. And it happens regularly. Clearing up other people's crap who can't be bothered is really going to encourage bonhomie towards visitors don't you think? Or you know, they could just be decent and clear up after themselves......

Jocasta2018 · 25/06/2020 23:25

With regards to the shitting everywhere....
I've got stomach problems & after a CT scan, I've been referred to get a non-urgent colonoscopy.
There is currently a long wait as my local health trust isn't performing then. Too much risk from uncontrollable bodily fluids which makes perfect sense in a an environment dealing with COVID patients.
If a hospital that shoves cameras up people's backside on a regular basis feels it's a dodgy procedure to be done, then surely people peeing & crapping everywhere must have some risk apart from the ick factor!

frumpety · 25/06/2020 23:26

And everyone knows the nightshift will have already done those jobs Wink

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 23:26

Or perhaps the spare change dropped from drunken revellers pockets will go some way to easing the ire....... Tugs forelock........

PeasInAPot · 25/06/2020 23:28

@BostonCheers or you could just pick up your own rubbish?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/06/2020 23:30

"Get a grip" That's another stupid saying that's trotted out in here by people with nothing sensible to say. A bit like the other stupid worn out chestnut "Give your head a wobble".

HeIenaDove · 25/06/2020 23:30

We have 3 pubs all opposite each other near our Tesco in the town. 4 if you include Wetherspoons a 3 min walk away. Dreading next Saturday and its NOT a seaside town

jasjas1973 · 25/06/2020 23:31

Because I see people. Human beings

Thats very debatable.

Mmmm yeah but so was continuing to go on ski trips/Chelteham/cruise ships and they were criticized nowhere near as much

All legal at the time, we had no idea how CV would effect us all back in March & i don't recall even Johnson telling us you can go for shit in the garden of No 8 Seaview road or throw bottles at the Police.

Smallsteps88 · 25/06/2020 23:32

That way it can be cleared in a way that is cost-effective and allows the residents to appreciate the positive impact tourism has on their area.

Please explain your... umm logic? here. You think clearing up after dirty bastards will help residents appreciate tourists?

ineedaholidaynow · 25/06/2020 23:34

Why should locals have to pick up 30 tonnes of rubbish that lazy fuckwits left behind?

SquirtleSquad · 25/06/2020 23:37

@BostonCheers there already are very regular beach clear ups by the locals. Avon beach had one this evening starting at the Noisy Lobster and also from Urban Reef and there are always litter picking facilities available from the beach hut cafe. Not that you'd know what you're talking about because you're not here.

What about the effects on the Studland to Sandbanks ferry yesterday and today? and the disruption to the residents and commuters there? Shore road was chaos.

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 23:38

The whole debacle has probably cost the area the same or as much as was spent. Not to mention environmental impact and stress to all involved. Still, at least "valuable lessons" may have been learned on all sides.

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 23:41

*the same or more than was spent.

This heat is frying my brain apparently.
