Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”

BebeGlazer · 25/06/2020 15:07

The local police and council have now declared that Bournemouth beach is scene of “major incident” because people will not stay away. Overcrowding, littering, desperately dangerous parking.

www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/18541911.bournemouth-beach-bcp-council-declares-major-incident/

Please, please, think kindly before travelling to small seaside towns at the moment. We cannot cope.

@Miljea

Just curious.

Miljea · 25/06/2020 22:20

Notonthestairs So halt and screenshot the drone video in another place that demonstrates the 'hellish conditions' you want to believe existed, then! I've posted my evidence, drone footage that cannot for- shorten the field of view. Please don't counter it with a DM shock horror eye-level shot manipulation.

jasjas1973 · 25/06/2020 22:21

22 tons of rubbish removed from the beach @ Bournemouth after just one day, council staff too frightened to go to the beach during the day to clean up.

These so called tourists are fucking animals, no excuses, we had a very mild lockdown for just 2 months not two years!

I would make random arrests and jail them for littering/shitting/pissing, bit like they did to that guy who had a leak next to a memorial, it would people stop and think about their actions.

Won't happen though, we are weak at every level.

Defenestratethecat · 25/06/2020 22:24

Wonder how many of the families crammed on that beach refused to send their children back to school because they were worried about them contracting covid? And tbh, seeing the pictures I can't see the pleasure in being crammed on that beach on the hottest day of the year surrounded by the smoke from disposable barbecues and nowhere to go to the loo except the cesspool otherwise known as the sea.

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 22:25

Well in my experience getting our council to do much without a stiff financial incentive is highly unusual, so I'm wondering what political benefit can be reaped from this?

And do you know what time the footage was taken? The incident was called mid-afternoon - things may have deteriorated in the intervening period. The multiple reports of over-crowding suggest it wasn't a mass hallucination.....

Honeyroar · 25/06/2020 22:27

Whether they live in a flat or not, I don’t give any slack to any single one of those people who didn’t have the sense to work out that a popular beach or beauty spot might be crowded today so it was probably better to pick a different outside space to visit. And even if they hadn’t thought of that prior to going. you’d think anyone with half a brain cell would work out they’d fucked up and it was dangerous- and go home - even if it meant sitting in more traffic. Only a real brainless moron would stay. Fact. Sadly there are clearly a lot of brainless morons around it seems.

Miljea · 25/06/2020 22:27

Shall I name the ED consultant who was🙄 at yet another 'major incident' called by the Council during a hot summer's day surge in beach-goers, so the council could pass the blame for any 'incidents' to the NHS's unpreparedness. Not theirs, for possibly not anticipating today...

Notonthestairs · 25/06/2020 22:28

Eh? I just asked where on the long beach it was shot! I have no idea how to link to DM pictures (sorry, I'll work on that). But if you could have directed me to which bit of the beach I would have asked my in-laws if that was a quieter/busier section usually.

user1471510720 · 25/06/2020 22:28

Major indecent 😂😂 Get a grip OP. Hasn’t anyone told you, no one gives a flying ..... about the virus anymore.

The drone views on the mews look pretty bad though. And even in your photo people look like they’re less than 2m apart. Why are you defending these fuckwits? Anyway, hopefully Darwin will do his work.
Notonthestairs · 25/06/2020 22:31

I've never mentioned "hellish conditions".

LoafEater · 25/06/2020 22:32

I’d bet that the same dickheads shitting in the sea, falling around the place drunk and leaving tonnes of litter behind, are exactly the same people who stripped the shelves of food and loo roll in March.

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 22:33

But the NHS deal with the fall out, not the reason for it so I don't see how the buck can be passed in that way. The council did urge people to stay away. Perhaps the message wasn't spread far enough or maybe people just ignored it. As someone mentioned upthread, this scale of visitors is comparable to the air show which is planned months in advance for specific activity with huge numbers of extra support. The council / services can't just magic up hundreds of extra employees in the pandemic scenario with a couple of days notice when the weather turns exceptionally good.

As you say, better to have covered the bases by declaring the incident and have it fizzle out than a tragedy occurring though.

Miljea · 25/06/2020 22:36

MadamMersault Why am I defending these fuckwits?

Because I see people. Human beings. Who wanted to have a day at the beach, one of the central southern coast's better beaches. People who have keenly watched how the government have directed, how they, yesterday, were promised a big lift in restrictions (albeit on July 4th). Who maybe did travel a long way for their lovely day out (which, contrary to what people want you to believe on here, probably did have that lovely day out!).

People who perhaps, erroneously were expecting things like open WCs, or a Council ready to handle the parking issues. And extra policing.

PhilSwagielka · 25/06/2020 22:37

What @halcyondays said. Even at the beginning of the lockdown, when things were stricter, people were still going out for food, walks, going to parks etc. I was one of them as I don't need to shield.

Smallsteps88 · 25/06/2020 22:40

Here, again, are these people 'crammed' onto the beach.

That is pretty crammed tbh.

Those who needed to shite but couldn’t get to a toilet. Shite in a plastic bag and take it home. Shite in in your towel- and take it home. Shite in your cool box- and take it home. Shite in your child’s bucket- AND TAKE IT HOME. shite in your fucking pants for all I care - JUST TAKE IT FUCKING HOME.

frumpety · 25/06/2020 22:41

@Miljea are you saying that no-one was admitted to A&E in Bournemouth yesterday ?

ineedaholidaynow · 25/06/2020 22:41

@Miljea there was a brawl at Exmouth beach, anti social behaviour with mass gatherings in Plymouth. Why is this sort of behaviour acceptable?

pallisers · 25/06/2020 22:42

We also need to accept that people who have been cooped up for months are not going to behave like saints in a situation where toilets are closed or have extremely long queues- so I can understand why the littering and defection has happened

Are you for real?? We need to "accept" people who defecate in someone's garden or street and not clean it up because ... well stuck indoors for a while and long queues don't you know. how low can standards go?

interesting Miljea that without any personal knowledge of the situation you think your interpretation is the right one - and not the comments of people living in the area and the local police and council. Just one turd eh? So glad you are certain of that. Can you tell me what is happening in my town right now since you are, apparently, the eye of saoron? Do you think they were just having a bit of a laugh the police and council when they said what they did?

What the AF does any of that have to do with Bournemouth??

How someone can have a "lovely day out" in that heat, travelling a long distance, with nowhere to stay overnight, then travelling back in the same day, and sitting on the beach in the hot sun packed in with a load of other beach goers. My friend who lives near the beach said there was mass overcrowding, illegal parking, and anti social behaviour and tensions were running high as a result.
poshme · 25/06/2020 22:44

It wasn't the police who declared the major incident.

I've got friends and family living in Bournemouth and Christchurch, one friend living very close to Bournemouth beach and it doesn't tally with what she said about it today.
Cornishclio · 25/06/2020 22:47

Living in Cornwall it makes me furious when people say we should be glad they are coming as they are helping the local economy. The restaurants, pubs, cafes are not yet open and neither are many of the other facilities so the tourists are not helping the economy but they are hindering the local people from going around their normal business and making life difficult for emergency services. Even when the restaurants do open in a few weeks it wont be normal. Everyone will need to book and there will be less people allowed in so people need to use their common sense and go somewhere quieter.

No one is entitled to a break where they block up roads, drop their rubbish and use peoples gardens as a toilet. That is animal like behaviour and just downright arrogant and selfish.

SquirtleSquad · 25/06/2020 22:47

There absolutely were admission to RBH yesterday.
