Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”

999 replies

BebeGlazer · 25/06/2020 15:07

The local police and council have now declared that Bournemouth beach is scene of “major incident” because people will not stay away. Overcrowding, littering, desperately dangerous parking.

Please, please, think kindly before travelling to small seaside towns at the moment. We cannot cope.

@Jumblebumblemess

I think this is what people aren't getting..... the area wasn't ready because of the rule timeline, and it was hoped people would be sensible but they weren't.....

Hell they do park and ride and diversions and stuff for the air show because the congestion is bad - I bet Tesco and Lidl in town are wiped out - hope local residents can get supplies......

PeasInAPot · 25/06/2020 21:11

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 I agree, our lockdown has been relatively light. People have not veen atuck inside for momths on end

I really think this whole thing has bought out the absolute worst in people, higglighting a really self-centred attitude.

cantfixstupid · 25/06/2020 21:11

Utterly disgusting and selfish behaviour.

I would imagine a lot of these idiots have not been able to have their annual jaunt to the Med so far this year so they've decided to take the opportunity to hit the beach on a lovely day. I feel sorry for the countries that normally have to bear these people. It does make me ashamed to be British seeing scenes like this.

Also, it totally underlines the governments stupidity in relaxing the restrictions in England far too early. Boris said the British people needed to use their common sense but knew full well that a lot of them wouldn't. Stand by for the 2nd wave.

Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”
wanderings · 25/06/2020 21:15

@PeasInAPot I mean that those of us who have been obeying the roolz, but are being slated left and right for doing things that are allowed have earned a break. I went to the zoo today; lots of people on MN would call me a selfish arsehole for that. Many of us argue against continuing restrictions because they cause damage; for saying this, we are told we’re murderers. This is what we need a break from.

Those who did terrible things at the beach such as leaving litter and making nuisances of themselves should not have done so. But I don’t blame them one bit for wanting to be at the beach.

And I

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 25/06/2020 21:17

The amount of posters who are defending these tourists' behaviour is staggering and says a lot about them.

cologne4711 · 25/06/2020 21:19

Who are these people who turn up, can’t park, see massively crowded beach and think ‘oh that looks nice’? Wouldn’t you turn around and drive back up the coast to see if there’s somewhere else? Can anyone give me an insight into that thought process

My view entirely. Don't like beaches but we have plenty of them. One beach is busy? Drive to another one? How difficult can it be?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 25/06/2020 21:20

Clearly visitors defecating in gardens and being abusive to litter pickers is not ideal. However, I do think we have to cut people a bit of slack when they've been stuck in small flats without gardens for 3 months.

Not ideal??! It's completely unacceptable. I have spent lockdown alone in a one bedroom flat with no outside space, in a city. I haven't felt the need to take a shit in anyone's garden.

SquirtleSquad · 25/06/2020 21:21

Not ideal!? Not fucking ideal!?

Angry
CallmeAngelina · 25/06/2020 21:22

Also, we do need to give people who have Ben trapped indoors for months some slack and accept that they are not going to behave angelically at the moment.

No fucking WAY will I give people slack for behaving like animals, especially as the vast majority of them will not have been trapped indoors for months. As someone else said, the low-lifes who use other people's gardens as toilets are unlikely to have been the ones following all the rules up until now.

GalesThisMorning · 25/06/2020 21:24
@jumblebumblemess

So as I've said, the defecation and urination, along with the littering, are not ideal by any means. However, many of the residents complaining will themselves be reliant financially on tourism or know someone who is. So I think they do need to remember on which side their toast is buttered!

Also, we do need to give people who have Ben trapped indoors for months some slack and accept that they are not going to behave angelically at the moment.
I live in a beauty area that relies heavily on tourists. In my household however no one needs the tourists, they are quite frankly a nuisance. I am also no doubt a nuisance when I clog up other tourist destinations on my holidays. No one likes tourists, really.

Tourists who shit on beaches are especially disliked Wink Enjoy your holiday... where was it you said you were going again? Portugal right? Or was it France? Grin

frumpety · 25/06/2020 21:24

Nobody has been locked inside anywhere, some people, who have been included in shielding catergory have not been outside much, if at all and I very much doubt that they are flooding to the beach at the moment.
The people flooding to the beach are the same people who would go to the beach and be happy with it being mobbed at any other time. It being insanely busy won't deter them. If they can cordon off a square of sand for their family they will be happy as larry, if they weren't they wouldn't stay ?

wildone84 · 25/06/2020 21:25

@CurlyhairedAssassin

I’d say it spends on if you plan on shitting on beaches and in people’s gardens? If not I’m sure the locals will welcome you

It's not on our to-do list, no. Grin

For those who wondered we're staying Puddletown, which DH finds very amusing, especially as some of the surrounding villages all sound like they have a bladder problem too. He keeps calling it "the CBeebies village"

I know Puddletown. It isn't too far from Bournemouth but it feels quite different. As long as you don't poop in anyone's garden I expect you'll be welcomed and you'll have a good time :D

Not everyone who's not a NIBMY is a troll @wildone84!

Would you be willing to cut someone a bit of slack if they came and pooed in your garden then told you to fuck off if you protested because they lived in a flat 200 miles away and this was their first day out for three months?

I live in a small flat with no balcony and no garden. It’s 9.30pm and still like an oven. I also chose to stay indoors for three months because my lungs don’t work very well. I still wouldn’t feel entitled to behave in the way that hundreds of people have done today. They haven’t done this because they don’t have outside space. They’ve behaved badly because they are entitled, self absorbed dickheads.

wildone84 · 25/06/2020 21:35

Well if you say a lot of ridiculous things about what people should have to put up with in exchange for £ don't be surprised if people think you're trolling.

Jumblebumblemess · 25/06/2020 21:36

@BostonCheers

Not everyone who's not a NIBMY is a troll *@wildone84*!
But you think it's ok for people to shit and piss in peoples gardens, block the roads with crap parking so emergency services can't get through, leave tons and tons of rubbish behind?

Everyone round to Boston's house. We can behave like absolute animals and trash the place but it's ok as we have all been trapped inside for months so its allowed.

This isn't about being a fucking NIMBY it's about having some respect for the world we live in.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 25/06/2020 21:38

Unless you've been shielding no-one has been 'trapped indoors for months'. We've thoroughly explored all of the local parks and nature reserves from our city centre location. Loads of lovely places to walk to and for the last month it's been allowable to drive to places a little further away. We've still stuck with quiet, non-tourist locations though to avoid other people.

With respect, whether people feel as if they have been trapped indoors for months probably depends a lot on where they live, the sort of housing they live in and whether they have access to their own transport. I live in a small flat with no outside space in a city. I don't have a car and have nowhere to store a bike, so have been limited to travelling only as far as I can walk, which means I haven't left the city, or even been to many other areas of it. There are no nature reserves close enough to walk to. My closest park is very small and not particularly interesting or lovely. Most of my walks have been around the local residential streets, which at first was interesting as I hadn't explored them before, but it quickly got stale and I now feel I am aimlessly and pointlessly wandering the streets. So I do feel like I am trapped, perhaps not indoors, but certainly in the 2 or 3 mile radius from my home.

That said, despite feeling trapped, I have no desire to go to a beach in sweltering weather and with thousands of others. All I want to be able to do is get on a train and visit my close friends. That's what I feel I am missing out on - as others drive to meet people in their gardens, I can't see most of my friends because I can't get to them.

UltimateWednesday · 25/06/2020 21:39

These places are simultaneously saying please come with your money and please stay away. When people left home for their day out, they wouldn't know everyone else was going too. I expect most of them regretted it, it can't have been any fun in the crowds.

Joelle345 · 25/06/2020 21:41

@wanderings and others defending this, what self entitled attitudes. You've "earned a break" have you? 😂😂😂 Fucking ridiculous! 4 months and you've no stamina left. Never mind those who have had to shield or have been seriously ill. Have you forgotten the entire point of social distancing, to protect the most vulnerable? Or don't they matter anymore? How on earth would you behave if there was a war or something?

"Ooh 4 months of thinking about other people first is a bit too much for me, I've earned myself a break and must flock to a beauty spot to spread the virus, sabotage the environment and shit on the beach while I'm at it."

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 21:41

Actually Bournemouth asked people to stay away until after July 4th.....when they could actually spend money supporting the whole town not just supermarkets and takeaways......

UltimateWednesday · 25/06/2020 21:45

All these threads make me determined not to return to any of these places, which I'm sure some people will be thrilled about but it won't do their towns any good in the long term.

I am going to explore the less touristy places which according to my research so far are full of hidden treasures.

Honeyroar · 25/06/2020 21:46

You look at all these stupid people crammed onto the same beach and worry for the general intelligence of the country. And then people try and justify it on here! Frightening.
