Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”

BebeGlazer · 25/06/2020 15:07

The local police and council have now declared that Bournemouth beach is scene of “major incident” because people will not stay away. Overcrowding, littering, desperately dangerous parking.

Please, please, think kindly before travelling to small seaside towns at the moment. We cannot cope.

Boston so by that logic if you worked in an office and your manager came along and took a shit on your desk you'd 'grin and bare it' for the good of the economy ?

Blimey. 😳

Pelleas · 25/06/2020 17:00

@PaytoLie Flowers

DirtyBlonde · 25/06/2020 17:01

How many children and adults on that beach will be heading to A&E tonight with serious burns

They'll have fun with that.

Part of the reason this is a major incident for the emergency services is that ambulances cannot get through. And there are reports of gridlock, so many people won't be able to away at all for hours
@morethanafortnight

Well, there'll be one less family at the seaside in the U.K. this summer as me and DH will not be giving a penny to the NIMBYs who have been complaining about tourists visiting.

We'll be more than happy to give the thousands we would have spent to the hotels, bars and restaurants in Spain, where they will welcome tourists with open arms Smile
I’m sure the residents of tourist areas across the UK will be relieved to hear that one less entitled twat will be rocking up in their town this summer,

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 17:03

Thank fuck that the pubs aren't open yet because then we'd have people delaying leaving and going for a drink..... things are volatile enough so am thankful for this small mercy.

PaytoLie · 25/06/2020 17:04

Pelleas Thank you. I probably sound more angry than I am. It’s frustrating more than anything to be told I’m scared of something that isn’t real or a virus we won’t die from when my kid is actually one of those that could well die. So many arseholes around.

ktp100 · 25/06/2020 17:06

@EnlightenedOwl It's quite an aggressive stance to say 'get a grip' to someone who has had a major incident declared in their own town.

I see you've had covid but were clearly young enough or fit enough to fight it off. I would argue that if you are in the position of having lost a friend or family member your attitude wouldn't be quite so gung ho.

Whether we like it or not we remain in the position of trying to control a global pandemic. Twats flocking to the beach is hardly something anyone should be 'getting to grips' with!

FlamingoAndJohn · 25/06/2020 17:07

That's such a stupid view. The clean up & disruptions will likely cost more then what some have spent on ice cream & booze.

Especially when you consider that the viral load from shit is huge. People cleaning up poo will need to have good PPE.

And what exactly will these visitors have put back into the economy? Are the cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars open? Or will they have just emptied the supermarkets?

Pikachubaby · 25/06/2020 17:08

Open schools, stop furlough and get people back to work

The 3 month long bank holiday can surely come to an end now!

plominoagain · 25/06/2020 17:08

And all those people complaining about NIMBY’s - it isn’t your council tax that’s going to spent on clearing up all their detritus , not your local hospital that suddenly is overrun with drunken fucking idiots abusing the staff and creating huge delays because they’ve had a punch up or cut their feet open standing on the glass bottles they dumped all over the beach . It’s not you who call for an ambulance or police only to find that they can’t get to you through badly parked cars or that they’re too busy refereeing another punch up over a spilt kebab . It’s not your kids asking “Mummy , why is that man having a wee in our garden? “ - which my friend was asked in a West Norfolk seaside town this morning - she didn’t know so sent the dog to ask him . Is it any wonder why the locals get the hump ?

Maybe all the locals should go in the opposite direction - im sure all those going to the beach won’t mind them using their gardens to picnic in, use their gardens equipment and shit on their lawn .

annabel85 · 25/06/2020 17:09

@lynsey91

Well I always knew that there were quite a lot of moronic idiots in the UK but it seems there are far more than I thought.

Shame there is no way to identify them because if they think it is ok to cram together on a beach then they should damn well go back to work and their children go back to school.

I honestly would not have the slightest bit of sympathy for them if they caught the virus.

Humans, on the whole, disgust me. Having so little respect for others by leaving so much rubbish behind, shitting on the beach, in the sea, in the street etc. We really need the virus to wipe us all out or at least a good number

It comes down to law and order (and specifically the lack of it). People, as a herd, do what they can away with. Compare to Italy or Spain who were hit far harder than the UK but rules were properly enforced. Even Scotland to a lesser extent.

People are people at the end of the day, like it or not. Give a Brit an inch and they'll take a mile.

Miljea · 25/06/2020 17:10

For the sake of accuracy, the population of Bournemouth, according to The World Population Review, is over 500,000; and the hospital has 800 beds and a Major Trauma Unit.

Not really 'a small town' with 'an overwhelmed little hospital'!

PollyDangerCrackers · 25/06/2020 17:12

@Notwiththeseknees

Wave *@PollyDangerCrackers* it's so bad here at the moment isn't it. Actual human shit in our gardens, DPD driver told me he was called a cunt yesterday by a visitor as he tried to exit a side road. Our two tiny supermarkets will be emptied and the bottles and wrappers left to blow not the sea. People here on holiday contribute to the economy, but the trippers mainly empty our supermarkets and they can't restock due to supply problems and 2 hours to travel 8 miles to get to the shop from the A27. Patience and understanding is over now.
Waving back, fellow sufferer!

It's not NIMBYism or some selfish desire to keep the place to ourselves. In my village, its about a beautiful area with limited parking, an infrastructure of children getting to school, people with and without disabilities moving around, people getting around to work, villagers going about their lives, completely overwhelmed with cars and visitors, many of whom are behaving appallingly.

Also, day trippers don't bring that much into the local coffers - that would be the caravanners and campers who, on the whole are much nicer and actually use the local businesses.

iliketallgiraffes · 25/06/2020 17:12

I’m sure the residents of tourist areas across the UK will be relieved to hear that one less entitled twat will be rocking up in their town this summer

Grin this^

Try living with it everyday. We can't enjoy it from the end of spring through to the autumn because it's full of gobby, littering fuckwits. I've seen adults literally shitting in the forest car park leaving toilet roll covered in shit, nappies everywhere, feeding the local ponies/horses on private land food that could kill them because "the kids love horses" I've seen people being aggressive towards the ponies as they assume all are tame Hmm portable barbecue scorch marks everywhere (then left behind), big breed dogs running wild off lead with owners making no attempts to control them as they're too busy getting pissed with their kids and boom box on full volume, driveways blocked....I could go on.

It's infuriating.

Pelleas · 25/06/2020 17:13

PaytoLie It's those of us who are scared who will stay safe. I have elderly parents who are shielding who I haven't been able to see for months because they are too far away to visit without an overnight. I would rather stick to the rules than be sorry, but it infuriates me that this type of behaviour risks prolonging the restrictions for everyone in the long-term.

Bonkersblond · 25/06/2020 17:13

They can all fuck off home, I live here, find it deeply upsetting how our coast line is being treated, saw the evidence for myself on an evening stroll, people just packing their belongings leaving their rubbish, broken bottles on the promenade, people using anywhere as a toilet, men beating each other with sticks(I kid you not)not sure if it was a cultural thing. I’d like to think none of this affects me but with very little social distancing, we saw minibuses full of people, if the NHS gets overwhelmed we are all affected, selfish selfish people.

WhoWants2Know · 25/06/2020 17:13

How many of these people are going to be stuck there for hours more than they expected, sit in gridlock and end up with heat stroke?

Inkpaperstars · 25/06/2020 17:13

@EnlightenedOwl I don't think you have escaped Covid as lightly as you thought, it seems to have left you with extensive neurological damage. If not, you are an absolute embarassment to yourself. You are in a frenzy of resistance to any sensible response to this pandemic and you have abandoned all reason. It's a tantrum.

lilgreen · 25/06/2020 17:13

Some people are so thick.

CHIRIBAYA · 25/06/2020 17:14

I would not set foot anywhere near a costal resort in the UK this year, they are going to be rammed to the hilt. Never have I been so glad to be staying within the comfortable, peaceful, crowd, noise and litter free space I call home.

ArticFreeze · 25/06/2020 17:15

Selfish... just unbelievably selfish. Have they not heard the news that over 40,000 people in this country have lost their lives to this virus?

There’ll be a second, deadlier wave and it’ll be brainless idiots like these that will have caused it.

bumblenbean · 25/06/2020 17:16

I don’t disagree the crowds / rubbish etc are shocking but isn’t the ‘major incident’ due to the fact a woman sadly died on the beach? Granted the crowds may have impeded emergency access but afaik it was the poor woman’s death that led to a major incident, not the crowds per se?

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 17:18

Latest figures indicate that large group gatherings over the last month haven't caused spikes, probably because the virus doesn't live long in hot weather and sunlight.

However that isn't much comfort if you are having a heart attack and the ambulance can't get past an illegally parked car.

bumblenbean · 25/06/2020 17:18

Ignore me - the death was yesterday on Worthing beach. Apologies! All the very depressing news is blurring into one

Inkpaperstars · 25/06/2020 17:19

Fuck you, you absolute cunt.

Seconded.

Well said @PaytoLie, I am sorry you have had to put up with this idiocy. This mockery of enlightenment, this insult to owls!
