How much alcohol do you drink on average?

Babesinthewud · 24/06/2020 23:45

A glass of wine a night? Or 2/3?
A glass or 2 a week?
3 bottles a week in one night?
2 bottles a week in 2 nights?

Feel like I’ve been drinking more since Lochdown. My friend drinks nearly a full bottle most nights. I’d say about 2 bottles a week for me

A bottle of wine and 2 g n t's on Friday night

ClashCityRocker · 25/06/2020 11:14

Bottle of wine with tea on Saturday.

About 1/3 to 1/2 of a bottle of vodka on Fridays.

In normal times we'd usually see friends on a Sunday afo and perhaps have another bottle of wine.

giantangryrooster · 25/06/2020 11:24

Half a bottle of wine once a fortnight, but then I do love my cola Smile.

Virtually never in the week, once in a blue moon I might have a half pint after a run with a friend

Usually a fair bit on Friday 😅

Maybe one or two drinks on a Saturday or Sunday

LBOCS2 · 25/06/2020 11:42

I'm dieting at the moment so very little (one slimline G&T, single, of an evening occasionally - if my calories allow).

But when I'm not, I'd probably drink 2/3rds of a bottle of wine on each of maybe 4 nights out of 7. So... rounding up, probably 3 bottles a week.

flack · 25/06/2020 11:45

maybe 4-5 glasses/week. Or equivalent in spirits. Is that about 1 bottle? At least double what I did in the old days (before Lockdown).

QuentinWinters · 25/06/2020 11:50

Share a bottle of wine with other half 3 nights a week. Sometimes a couple of gins, sometimes we might open a second bottle. I try to stay in my 14 units a week but recognise I'm closer to 20. But the units are arbitrary so I don't worry too much, the calories/weight gain bothers me more.

hotstepper4 · 25/06/2020 12:36

Around a bottle or 2 a week plus a couple of gins. Probably a bit too much but I don't smoke or have any other bad habits so live and let live. If my drinking increases due to stress I'm conscious of it and soon nip it in the bud. My dad is an alcoholic and has liver damage and I certainly don't want to end up like him.

TeenPlusTwenties · 25/06/2020 12:44

DH and I get through about 1 bottle every month, of which he drinks 2/3rds. We're not great drinkers. Smile

Gigia · 25/06/2020 12:49

I used to drink half a bottle about three times a week but have cut it out totally since lockdown in an attempt to get healthier. I feel a lot bette for it but still miss having a glass now and then.

WhatALearningCurve · 25/06/2020 12:52

@babesinthewud you don't sound like an alcoholic. Posts like this just seem to attract people who barely drink and then the people who do drink are put off posting like @wowserbowser said. (As an aside there's obviously nothing with not drinking so that comment isn't me judging none drinkers - it's just that no one wants to be the first person to say they drink more than 1 glass of wine a month (what do you do with the rest of the bottle?!)

Over lockdown I've been doing Zoom calls with fiends on a Saturday night. I'll drink a bottle of wine or a fair amount of vodka Diet Coke. Hangover makes itself known the day after but I'm still up at 7 and functioning.

Out of lockdown - god knows. I don't really drink at home but only because I drink for the fun side of it and it's not fun on your own ha. I'll usually have 2 or 3 nights out a month and on them I'll drink double vodkas and usually shots will occur through the night.

Friends of my age drink similar if not more - most of them are still child free. We're definitely a group of spirit drinkers rather than sharing a bottle of wine types

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 25/06/2020 12:52

A thimbleful of sherry at Christmas.

Grobagsforever · 25/06/2020 12:55

I have 5ml of low alcohol wine every second Easter and a half pint of shandy with my Christmas Dinner, but only on leap years.

indecisivewoman81 · 25/06/2020 13:06

A glass of wine a night which is two bottles a week.

I really need to cut back because my skin looks tired and my waistline is getting bigger!

giantangryrooster · 25/06/2020 13:18

Why is it that posters get their knickers in a knot, if you don't like drinking alcohol? I haven't seen anyone being judgmental about the amounts posters consume. I simply answered the question, next time someone makes a thread about this, please say for drinkers only.

I don't like the taste of alcohol, that's it.

cliffdiver · 25/06/2020 13:25

A bottle of Cava on a Friday night.

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 25/06/2020 13:25

I drink 2 bottles of prosecco every Friday night without fail and probably just one on a Saturday but occasionally 2 🙈 oh well

WhatALearningCurve · 25/06/2020 13:26

@giantangryrooster I hope that's not how my post came across!! I'm sorry if it did!

4catsand1dog · 25/06/2020 13:33

I drink about 8/10 times a year. Never drink at home and rarely drink enough to get a hangover. Five years ago it was every weekend. I feel so much better for it now

Lottapianos · 25/06/2020 13:34

'I have 5ml of low alcohol wine every second Easter and a half pint of shandy with my Christmas Dinner, but only on leap years.'

snowone · 25/06/2020 13:37

It varies for me - I can go for weeks at a time without having a drink. Since lockdown I'd say maybe an average of 1 bottle of wine per week.

hippospot · 25/06/2020 13:41

1-3 units a week usually. Sometimes none.

TeenPlusTwenties · 25/06/2020 13:41

The thing is, if someone wants to know if they are drinking too much, then saying 'only reply if you drink at least a bottle of wine every night' or whatever will skew the answers.

People know (or can easily find out) the recommended weekly limits and the recommendations on number of alcohol free days per week. Those are what they should judge their drinking levels on, not on a bunch of tee-totals nor a bunch of alcohol-abusers on the internet.

giantangryrooster · 25/06/2020 13:48

@WhatALearningCurve combined with the thimble full of Sherry, it struck a cord Grin. I'm just sick of how 'not much drinkers' are either rediculed or disbelieved on mn. Here it is either you drink a crate of wine every evening or you don't drink at all. It would be lovely if we accepted each other's ways Smile.

mumoftoddlerandteen · 25/06/2020 13:52

None as we are TTC and want to give myself every possible chance. X
