How much alcohol do you drink on average?

A glass of wine a night? Or 2/3?
A glass or 2 a week?
3 bottles a week in one night?
2 bottles a week in 2 nights?

Feel like I’ve been drinking more since Lochdown. My friend drinks nearly a full bottle most nights. I’d say about 2 bottles a week for me

I used to drink 2-3 large glasses of wine every evening (unless I was going out driving), when lockdown started my drinking increased and I was having the odd glass with lunch, making Pimms etc ... it was very easy to get into a habit of drinking more and more (yes, I appreciate I can afford it). A month ago, fed up with the weight I'd also put on due to being furloughed at home, I started Low Carb Boot Camp, I've only had wine one evening in the month and didn't really enjoy it, I've lost weight and feel so much better so I really hope I don't go back to my previous habits. I gave given the money I've saved on wine to my favourite charity (rather a lot Blush).

I will be honest. It varies quite a bit. Some weeks it will be 4/5 double g&t Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes i might do one or two on a week day. Not every weekday (unless on holiday). Sunday being fathers day we (DH and I) shared a bottle of Prosecco and two bottles of white wine then I had a couple of g&t's on the evening. This amount is a normal amount to drink if we have a roast dinner or a special dinner but we don't do that every week.

I know I drink way over my 14 units but I know we drink on par with most friends, some family and se neighbours so I know reading many posts on here we are heavy drinkers but within our social group we aren't.

BillieEilish · 25/06/2020 08:43

Bottle of vodka a week. Sometimes more.

So maybe 2 double V&T's a day?
Can't drink wine anymore Sad too acidic.

I usually have a gin on a Saturday night and sometimes on a Sunday. I use a measure so I know it's just a single measure. My drinking hasn't changed during lockdown but my eating certainly has...the amount of chocolate I've consumed Shock

Pinksun12 · 25/06/2020 08:46

A glass each on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Once a month about a bottle of wine at a social gathering.

Spottybluepyjamas · 25/06/2020 08:58

Probably on average 2 bottles of wine a week. Maybe half a bottle of gin every other week and some beers as well. It's definitely a lot more since lockdown!

Drybird2020 · 25/06/2020 08:58

OP, it really doesn't matter what other people drink. Are you happy with the amount you drink? If you spend any time at all worrying about it, it's too much.

Waitingforboristoletusfree · 25/06/2020 08:59

@WowserBowser well that’s certainly not a bad thing if it points it out to them! It’s not normal to drink over your daily limit every day/week. So shouldn’t be normalised, I shouldn’t have to refrain from commenting to make them feel better about it either.

Ristar · 25/06/2020 09:00

2 of those wee gin cans a week. Sometimes not even that recently. I'm saving my calories for chocolate!

WowserBowser · 25/06/2020 09:04

I wouldn't post on a thread about how much meat you eat if i was a vegan

Valambtine · 25/06/2020 09:06

2/3 bottle of wine (4 glasses) on each of Friday and Saturday nights. Never more or I get palpitations. Very occasional g and t or Bailey's on a week night - maybe once a month.

Waitingforboristoletusfree · 25/06/2020 09:07

😂😂 not even comparable! I do drink, but only at Christmas ... a vegan wouldn’t be consuming meat only at Christmas 🙄 Christ! Go back to bed

WowserBowser · 25/06/2020 09:10

You are very highly strung 🤣

Lottapianos · 25/06/2020 09:14

I really dont know why teetotal or Baileys-at-Christmas people post on these sorts of threads

For me, probably 2 cocktails and a bottle of wine over the weekend. Usually nothing at all in the week. Still feels like too much sometimes

MaidenMotherCrone · 25/06/2020 09:17

I've had 3 this year. I need to put more effort in.

Waitingforboristoletusfree · 25/06/2020 09:21

@Lottapianos to give the OP an accurate idea of actually how much people drink?? To show it’s actually NOT normal to drink a lot, daily or either weekly. If we sugar coat everything in life and don’t let people know what they are doing is not normal that’s called enabling. Also not saying what the OP does it not ok. People aren’t silly they know their limits, even those in denial 🤭

ScatteredMama82 · 25/06/2020 09:28

A bit too much. I would say I'm averaging about 2 bottles of wine a week. DH is home a lot, and he usually works away, so it feels like a bit of a holiday, hence we are more likely to have a couple of glasses of wine with dinner or after the kids are in bed.

TooGood2BeTrue · 25/06/2020 09:29

A glass of white or rosé each day at the moment. It's just so nice whilst we sit outside on the patio for our dinner in this weather!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 25/06/2020 09:29

A megashit ton of wine fri sat and sun, try to stay off it in the week. However recently got into the gordans summer fruity gins so getting through rather a lot of that too. Yes i think i have a problem as i drink way more than recomended levels.

Davodia · 25/06/2020 10:03

I have a couple of beers a week, occasionally a small glass of wine. Pre kids I would drink a full bottle of wine and perhaps a couple of spirits every Friday and Saturday, and I had to stop myself drinking on week nights in order to limit my intake. Nowadays I spend most of my evenings getting DC to sleep so I don’t get the chance to sit and drink.

Youngatheart00 · 25/06/2020 10:07

Far too much, it’s been so easy to open a bottle most nights during lockdown. And the ‘night’ can often start around 4. So the bottle gets drunk over 5-6 hours, I rarely feel ‘drunk’, just a mild buzz. But recognise it’s unhealthy and the units (and calories!) across a week are appalling.

Now ensuring that when I do open a bottle I leave at least enough for a glass the next day. Then, I make that glass the only booze I drink. I suppose in effect I’ve gone from a bottle most days to around 3 bottles a week. We would like to try another cycle of IVF in the autumn so need to cut back further still.

Don’t beat yourself up, these are strange times, but good that you recognise (like i did) what are unhealthy habits

SweetPetrichor · 25/06/2020 10:18

Probably a couple of units a month. I just have a gin or a rum if I fancy it, which is rare.

Bluesheep8 · 25/06/2020 10:32

Nothing Monday to Thursday.
Then a bottle of wine (at least, if im really honest) Fri Sat and Sun.
Used to be Fri and Sat but it's crept into Sunday aswell since lockdown.

jess3817 · 25/06/2020 10:56

I used to drink a bottle every evening. Now..none for four months..needed and wanted to stop.

MrsPworkingmummy · 25/06/2020 11:01

Wow, I drink a lot more than many posters here. We usually have a gin and tonic with tea every evening, occasionally we'll have another after food. At least twice a week, we'll share a bottle wine with our food (on top of the gin). Sometimes, we might get through 2 bottles of wine although that's rare. We are both working from home and definitely drinking more. Normally, we'd have a bottle of wine on a Sunday evening
, then gin and Tonics on a Friday and Saturday evening.
