How much alcohol do you drink on average?

A glass of wine a night? Or 2/3?
A glass or 2 a week?
3 bottles a week in one night?
2 bottles a week in 2 nights?

Feel like I’ve been drinking more since Lochdown. My friend drinks nearly a full bottle most nights. I’d say about 2 bottles a week for me

I’m going to have a couple of drinks on Saturday night. My first alcohol since February. My friend is coming round to sit in my garden and have a catch up.
I only ever usually drink on nights out. 4, maybe 5 drinks. I hate drinking in the house, I don’t see the point.
I’m just not fussed on alcohol 🤷🏻‍♀️

Angel2702 · 25/06/2020 07:41

I drink a bottle of wine over the weekend, only started doing this regularly since lockdown before that would be only every few weeks.

ExpletiveDelighted · 25/06/2020 07:42

Not much, sometimes I go several weeks without any at all, then I might have 3 or 4 drinks over a week so on average I'd say about one drink a fortnight.

It’s definitely more since lockdown. Pre it was a bottle a week split over fri/sat. Now it’s around 1.5-2 bottles a week and a few cocktails. Helps ease the stress.

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 25/06/2020 07:54

I drink gin and have a craft gin subscription. I do religiously measure my drinks so am not drinking more than I think, but am currently drinking 2-3 doubles 5-6 times a week. It's far far too much. My pre lockdown pattern was 1 double 3 times a week. I need to refocus and cut back.

molifly14 · 25/06/2020 07:56

Nothing, I can't stand be taste of alcohol of the feeling it gives me

WowserBowser · 25/06/2020 08:02

I love these threads as it brings out all the 'a sniff of brandy at Christmas' type folks

Which is pointless and puts off more seasoned drinkers from posting.

Patbutcherismyhero · 25/06/2020 08:07

Too much. But I'm addressing it.

If I open a bottle of wine I will likely drink it in one evening. At one point I was doing this 4-5 nights a week Blush

Now I might have a bottle of wine over the course of the weekend and maybe a gin or two with diet lemonade 2-3 nights during the week. It's a big reduction for me.

SallyWD · 25/06/2020 08:09

On average 1 glass a week or every 2 weeks. I used to be a binge drinker now I can't stand feeling rough and tired the next day so I just don't bother.

AuntieMarys · 25/06/2020 08:14

I rarely drink wine and if I do its only a glass. Never beer. I do drink gin....I measure out and have 2-3 double gins 3 times a week. Currently have 12 different bottles...I subscribe to the Craft gin club but only bi monthly.
Last drank on Monday...nothing else till Sunday now.

fitflopqueen · 25/06/2020 08:16

Husband has been teetotal for 3 years, that impacts what I have now so a bottle of wine lasts 3 evenings for me.
Average 1-2 drinks over 4/5 days/week.

Quackersandcheese3 · 25/06/2020 08:19

A bottle of wine spread over 2/3 days .

Skyliner001 · 25/06/2020 08:21

Equivalent of two pints at the weekend in the form of small bottles, across three nights. Normally one small bottle Friday, 2 on sat, 1 sun.

Waitingforboristoletusfree · 25/06/2020 08:21

Only at Christmas

@WowserBowser like me ... not sure why it would put people off posting if they drink more though ? Unless they quite clearly have an issue,,,

annabel85 · 25/06/2020 08:24

I usually drink a lot on a Friday or Saturday during an evening out. Occasionally during the week or a Sunday bank holiday.

Haven't had a drop since mid March. I'm a social drinker and haven't socialised for 3 months.

Well said! I was just thinking that 😂😂
WowserBowser · 25/06/2020 08:26

Well it is fairly obvious why isn't it? Especially now you have mentioned people having a problem

GreyishDays · 25/06/2020 08:26

It can make you feel like you have an issue if the rest of the answers are skewed.

I don’t drink any more but my friends say they have def been drinking every night in lockdown.
DH is drinking about 15 cans of lager a week which is a bit much.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 25/06/2020 08:26

In summer, a bottle of white wine over a weekend, sometimes 2 bottles.
I know that the second bottle is definitely too much.

I know that we tend to normalise it, joke about it and share the memes, but in reality, I know very little women who drink wine at home regularly, if at all. Maybe a glass at a social gathering. And my friends and social circle are 30s - 60s.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 25/06/2020 08:32

2 years or so ago I took my recycling box out... It was so full of wine bottles and beer cans I could barely lift it and it was spilling out. Kind of woke me up to the fact I was drinking nightly, often skipping cooking and reaching for wine instead. I don't these days, but I still see plenty of recycling boxes on a Wednesday that are stuffed to spilling by beer cans, cider cans, wine bottles etc.
Seems a lot of people drink a lot and maybe they don't realise it.

Impatientwino · 25/06/2020 08:34

I drink too much and trying to cut down. Probably 4 bottles of wine a week in recent months plus a few g&ts etc. I've always drunk a fair whack but my mum became terminally ill and died in hideous circumstances within weeks in late February which has totally floored me and then lockdown hit shortly after her funeral so it's been tough trying to regulate.

I always stay AF Monday to Wednesday then get to Thursday evening and think well I've done 3 days. Like previous posters I struggle to not finish a bottle if I open it so hence my intake. I'm also a lush so have a high threshold so don't suffer in the mornings but it does affect my sleep terribly.

Therefore my small target to myself is now that I'm not to finish the bottle any night so I'm hoping that will be a small step to cutting down. Can't face full on tee total for now, feels too much but on the way down hopefully Smile Managed this two nights last week and the other two nights not so much!

My two main friendship groups are all big drinkers, plus the school mums plus my family so it feels like an uphill battle to not drink when I see people but I'm trying to mindful about that which is at least a start.

crusheddaffodils · 25/06/2020 08:36

Pre-Lockdown, 1 g&t 2 nights per week. I do have a one year old though. Pre-pregnancy, I would have maybe 3 strong cocktails once a week.
During Lockdown, 3 or 4 nights a week, but still only 1 g&t each time.
I'm not a big wine drinker (gives me a headache) but I occasionally have a small glass if it goes particularly well with our meal.

unicornparty · 25/06/2020 08:39

I have a gin and tonic on a Friday usually.
