Here's a new thread for discussing aircon, aubergines, and Goth music.

Can I ask a really dumbass question?
In theory now that social distancing can be reduced to 1m, depending on what the specified guidance is (the way I understand they've set it out but everyone now has to wait for what their industry specific guidance is), then in theory could mean that more kids are bought back to school?
Otherwise how are people who have to work who have children supposed to do it?

ILoveTotoro · 24/06/2020 20:02

I've found you all! Thank god !!

TheGreatWave · 24/06/2020 20:03

Nothing sorry today has been so hard. Throwing him into the garden seems a good plan.

Every morning folk are Qing up at like 10am for at least 10 minutes. Just why? When you can walk in immediately at 6-9pm every evening

Yep I go to Sainsbury's at about 7pm (they close at 8) Bliss, and the shelves are pretty well stocked still.

I have booked a hotel so we can go and see my parents, my youngest's reaction when I told her was so lovely. I perhaps haven't realised how hard they are finding it, because they seem on the outside to be ok.

Day off tomorrow and going to the beach.

Littlebelina · 24/06/2020 20:08

@NothingIsWrong

The one I usually use has confirmed it's too late to organise opening this year. I'll try and find another one locally but they book up super quick. But obviously I shouldn't have had them if I wasn't willing to look after them, and I'm just selfish to have a career (that I love and am bloody good at).
I work (and until recently full time) because I want to not because I have to. We could get by on DHs salary but I love working and I'm honestly a better parent for not being with my kids all the time. People who shame mothers (and it's mothers being shamed 99.99% of the time) for working can go fuck themselves as far as I'm concerned.

The holiday club thing is incredibly frustrating, the guidance should have been ready by May half term even if it was with the proviso that clubs may not be able to happen if cases went back up. The uncertainty has lead a few big providers to cancel and it'll put pressure on the ones that do open. The bbc were just reporting that the WHO were praising the UK'S approach out of lockdown and I've been alternating between thinking "really, cause it's been mixed messages and saying things and thinking about how it'll work later" and laughing because the UK coming in for praise will make the dementors heads explode

countrygirl99 · 24/06/2020 20:15

No way would I go to the supermarket more than once a week. But that's because, even now, I can find better things to do 😊. I hate going and go early on a Saturday. No queue & I can whizz round as quickly as possible. Milk and bread can be topped up at the village shop.

BogRollBOGOF · 24/06/2020 20:18

I go in the evening and walk straight in. It feels 75% normal as it's quiet enough not to have to do the awkward social distance shuffle. My lamily life is pretty late-shift anyway.

I've been to my mums! Grin We sat outside dripping in sweat. I'm not sure if my suncream was working properly despite two tries as it was just being flushed off by sweat. DS2 was in delight mode and ultra best manners. DS1 chose not to go, there's a bit of a personality clash there. DS2 hasn't seen her since Christmas Day because she was ill around Feb/ March and it's Feb for me. We had a facing the opposite way brief hug Wink

DS2 and I then went to the cemetary to see my dad or at least his headstone Grin

IAintentDead · 24/06/2020 20:18

@Mascotte

Oh *@OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks* please start a thread about masks and lipstick! It's only in here I've been brave enough to say that 😂
Much as I would love to add to this plea please don't - we will get accused of bullying.

Enough of them come on here just enough to know where it's coming from.

I am one of those horrific, lowest of the low people who kept my regular online shopping slot, meaning I was depriving poor souls of one Blush. As did most of my friends.
Cattermole · 24/06/2020 20:22

@NothingIsWrong YOU ALWAYS NEED FABRIC

Seriously. I mean what if all your clothes fall apart tomorrow and you need to make some more?

Bollss · 24/06/2020 20:23

Ugh I just veered into a dementory thread about how schools can't possible open in September because pubs are open and everyone will be spreading it.

No no no no no I shant accept it.

NothingIsWrong · 24/06/2020 20:23

@Drivingdownthe101 yup, we have kept our online shopping slot. I think there was only 2 weeks we couldn't get one. I did one shop in person and it knocked me sideways mentally for a week on top of everything else that was going on. Now there are loads of slots available.

NothingIsWrong · 24/06/2020 20:24

@TrustTheGeneGenie that's the one that sent me over the edge about half an hour ago.

BogRollBOGOF · 24/06/2020 20:25

Being with anyone 24/7 does not enhance my relationship with them. Being a SAHM (normally) works much better when they are at school! I did it the unusual way round and worked through the toddler years (mainly PT, also one year of FT which was too much in combination with DH's job) DS1 found wrap around care too much around school. Holiday care is one reason why I haven't looked beyond teaching as we have no back-up and even in normal circumstances it's messy and complex to arrange.

My brain is now ceasing to process any conversation about Pokemon, Minecraft and Lego which is very inconvenient as that's about 85% of avaliable conversation in this house...

The OP of that thread is a dementor in chief. And knows nothing about whether schools will go back or not. She has stated her opinion as fact.

TheGreatWave · 24/06/2020 20:35

Yeah I did that too. Sainsbury's delivery pass holder. In the last few weeks I have been given a free 3 months delivery pass by Morrisons and a VIP booking slot by Iceland. Both of them I use sporadically and had only had the one shop for each since start of lockdown. Iceland we used when I was showing symptoms as Sainsbury's wouldn't let me have a 2nd slot in the week. So two shops are actively encouraging me to use them and Sainsbury's show me many many slots so I book one.

peaceanddove · 24/06/2020 20:39

Is it still frowned upon to go to the shops more than once a week and for entirely non essential crap?

I have absolutely no idea and couldn't care less if I did. I have nearly shopped myself into a coma these last few days, but someone has to get the economy going again

BakewellTarts · 24/06/2020 20:41

I kept my online delivery too although I used half of them to do my mums grocery shopping remotely so maybe half bad?

I am definately avoiding school threads and actually most of Mumsnet. i have hit a wall this week and need to protect my mental health.

Bollss · 24/06/2020 20:41

@NothingIsWrong @Drivingdownthe101

You're right, I know! But I didn't comment.... I walked away.....

I have faith in... Something....(not religious so I'm going to go with... Fate? Yes. Fate.) That we will get our kids back to school. All of them. In one go. 5 days a week.

Orangeblossom78 · 24/06/2020 20:42

The WHO has praised the UK approach to easing lockdown, posted on that thread about the schools. OP does sound dementor-ish

Orangeblossom78 · 24/06/2020 20:43

I just had a worrying thought would they track and trace people going swimming? as that would put me off going. Making you stay at home for weeks etc. It feels a bit much all this surveillance.

TheGreatWave · 24/06/2020 20:43

I must confess my sins, oh holy ones. I don't think schools will be back, not because of waves and spikes and what not, but just the logistics involved in getting all the pupils back.

I think it sucks big hairy balls, but I am a bit glass half empty on this. Rather be pleasantly surprised than bitterly disappointed.

Drivingdownthe101 · 24/06/2020 20:44

I was thinking that about pubs/restaurants etc. I really, really want a really posh meal out with DH. But not if I’m going to get a phone call saying someone sitting at the other side of the room has tested positive and I have to self isolate.
Orangeblossom78 · 24/06/2020 20:44

Well we are the worst as I use DH's priority online slots although he was meant to be shielding but is at work now (but do share it with neighbour in her 80s which makes me feel better)

Drivingdownthe101 · 24/06/2020 20:45

I think there’s a strong chance of primaries going back, bubbles of 30. Some guidance has been issued this evening, will have a look later.
Secondaries... not so sure. I have no eggs in the secondary basket but think they’re being properly screwed over.

fartingsparkles · 24/06/2020 20:48

@Nothingiswrong you ARE awesome. All of you on here are!

Another Lidl lover here. I have never had to queue. I find either early lunch (midday ish) or around 4pm are quieter. That seems to be the case in all the supermarkets round here. I would love to be able to go in the evening, but its bedtime for dcs.

Felt really fed up earlier today. Have just had enough I think. I am bored of getting ds to do school work (when in reality it would be winding down time - despite the crap I read on a thread last night) or going for a walk. Getting up is getting harder. If it wasn't for the dcs I would stay in bed a lot longer. My get up and go has done a runner. I don't want to go shopping with both dcs in tow (and fortunately there's nothing we need).
