Good lord Magda
That’s so shocking
I’m starting to think the north east is on another planet to everywhere else when you see everyone going about their business.
Obviously I’m not seeing the anxious people..

The car park at the indian was full..we just to say had room to put up our picnic table
Gawd it was lovely
My grandson polished off a huge dish of chicken tikka masala and then a load of rice...he’d just had a big 200g bar of chocolate before that.

When I dropped him off at the Rev ground, as well as loads of footy games going on, someone had rolled up with a van full of weights and gym equipment with about 5 or 6 people giving it what for.
There was a rather large lady getting stuck in..I thought good for you missus
Lovely to see, I hope it carries on.

Drove round the corner and there’s loads of kids playing on the open playground equipment...yayy..all in full view of the houses
It was like VE Day all over again

Watched some of The Other one tonight on iPlayer
Enjoyed it, if you’re looking for something light hearted
( well that’s if the death of a two timing dad is light hearted..made me chuckle anyway)

Thank you @dowser for the advice. He's got a prescription from GP but I'll bear your approach in mind too. Amazon sell colloidal silver which made me smile - 2 very different worlds colliding there!

Dowser · 24/06/2020 00:22

No problem..some independent health stores sell it ( not in Tenerife they don’t) but not holland and Barrett.

PickAChew · 24/06/2020 00:54

Whitty only ever looks like he over indulged in the botox.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 24/06/2020 05:55

Had a really shit nights sleep last night. Got a family issue (I'm seriously considering going nc with them but dont know if this whole situation is making my reaction more extreme) and would just really love a hug and a glass of wine with a friend at the pub.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 24/06/2020 05:56

Sorry pressed send too soon.
Meant to add, at least I can come here for some light relief 😁

LivinLaVidaLoki · 24/06/2020 06:15

Just ventured over to the Corona zone.

Sooooo many people know for sure we will be in lockdown again this winter. I'm pretty sure something that can cause this much economic devastation must be a one time only deal.

Its astounding though how many people think the end of the daily sadly death show is a sign that the govt have washed their hands of us. Seriously someone actually said "I think the end of the daily briefings is the start of things going wrong again..."

I suspect its more a combination of viewing figures and the realisation that reporting on deaths every day (because let's face it unless there is an easing of restrictions or a big news story that's all people are tuning in for), is not healthy.

How else do they think everyone got so scared to leave their houses?

Tbh I think it just makes more sense to have an address or announcement if and when changes are made or there is something to update. Making the whole country obsessed with death and "the numbers" in this way is unhealthy and a little distasteful.

SeaOtterFluff · 24/06/2020 06:57

I was so pleased after yesterday's announcement - we'd got a camping trip booked for 4th July by coincidence and I've been looking forward to it since the January!
Then they announced redundancies at work, which knocked the edge off. My job isn't under threat but some lovely colleagues are likely to go. The dementors who had previously been wittering about Boris putting the economy over health went quiet.

ButterMeCrumpets · 24/06/2020 07:18

I'm pretty sure something that can cause this much economic devastation must be a one time only deal.

I'm of the same mind. The devastation this is going to continue to cause in the economy will be felt for a long time and will affect public services across the board which a number of people don't seem to get.

I am just hoping DH and I keep our jobs. We aren't in a risky industry but less money, less spending, other companies going bust has a knock on effect.

I am bracing myself for that in 6 months to a year away when I think the news won't be about saving lives but it will be about poverty and unemployment.

mightbealittlebitmad · 24/06/2020 07:21

There is no reason to carry on with the briefings if there is nothing to say. Having everything so accessible just makes things worse, a slight increase and everyone is screaming about needing another lockdown.

Quite where they will find the money for another one I don't know. Its unrealistic to keep a strict level of lockdown going for a huge length of time, I just don't understand why people can't see that.

Worldgonecrazy · 24/06/2020 07:26

There is no way we will lockdown again. It’s shocking that Project Cygnet didn’t consider the economic implications of a pandemic, we need to ull together in a positive non dementoring manner to get the economy moving. We are facing true devastation (not the sadly daily variety) if we don’t.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 24/06/2020 07:28

There’s a good article in the Times today about the risk to the under-50s. here

I had a conversation with my team at work today about getting back to the office (I was hardly rushing it, this was a very preliminary conversation about the autumn). Two people so desperate to get back that they were practically in tears. Everyone else doesn’t want to get back “until it’s safe”. I was tempted to hit the gin when I came off the call. This is a group of healthy 30 and 40 somethings who are all convinced that if they leave their houses they’ll die. I don’t know how to pull us back from this.

rookiemere · 24/06/2020 07:29

Scottish Antidementors - Edinburgh botanic gardens and probably other scottish ones are now available to book but tickets are free.
I'm in the queue for zoo tickets which opens at 8.

In the excitement of a possible public outing I have just epilated my legs which took a very long time as I hadn't done it for a while Blush

Teateaandmoretea · 24/06/2020 07:34

There is no reason to carry on with the briefings if there is nothing to say. Having everything so accessible just makes things worse, a slight increase and everyone is screaming about needing another lockdown.

There are lots and lots of things that are still banned. This is absolutely nowhere near normal ‘new’ or otherwise.

Teateaandmoretea · 24/06/2020 07:36

I have to say, I am pretty pissed off that the pubs are opening before schools.

I’m furious. Seemingly now pubs can open this is the new normal and screw everyone and anything else. Do you all realise that all grassroots sport is still banned?

Bollss · 24/06/2020 07:48

I don't think there will be another lockdown. We can't afford it for one, and for two people won't comply. I wouldn't. I feel like I've done my bit. No way in hell am I doing it again, and exactly we're not even back at "normal" yet anyway.

France and possibly Ireland (I think) have ruled out another lockdown. I think we will go the same way.

I know Sweden is not directly comparable to us but they've imo proven that you don't actually need to lock down in order to "contain" this.

Me and dp were talking about this last night everyone screaming second wave....how?!? We still aren't allowed to get close to people, we can't gather, no social events as such...

They clearly think schools and childcare single handedly will cause a second wave but other places (France) have proved that it won't!

I'll be very surprised if we have a massive NHS ruining wave.

There will be briefings when further restrictions are lifted I think, whenever that might be.
LivinLaVidaLoki · 24/06/2020 07:49

Also am I alone in thinking that the scientists didn't look "scared", "nervous" or "uncomfortable" last night?

On the contrary I think for the first time in a long time they were clear that this is a risk we have to learn to live with and whilst we have to continue to be cautious we also cannot stay locked in forever.

I would say they were cautious, but not any more than you would expect knowing whatever you say you're going to grilled by the press afterwards who are desperately just trying to get you say you dont agree with the govt.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 24/06/2020 07:51

Hopefully next week when the discussions around foreign travel have been had 😁 (hopeful)

MagdaS · 24/06/2020 07:53

We are nowhere near normal yet.

I have people who would sell their granny for a trip back into the office (and I am advocating hard for them) but others who seem quite happy to carry on.

The ones who want to get back in are those with a high proportion of their day on Teams and / or working on large scale drawings which aren’t meant to be looked at on a laptop screen. If people are typing away at a report in Word they seem less bothered.

rookiemere · 24/06/2020 07:53

Teatea I agree that it is very much easing designed around getting businesses up and running again, however from how I read how it's due to be managed, it should not be a free for all in the pubs - but I guess we'll see how Boris's chum Mr Wetherspoon owner chooses to interpret it.

I guess it's also the price to be paid for supporting the Conservative world view of prioritising business over individuals. I think I'd still rather have that than the Scottish or Welsh stance.

Teateaandmoretea · 24/06/2020 07:54

There will be briefings when further restrictions are lifted I think, whenever that might be.

But by doing away with them they are now less accountable for when that will be.

rookiemere · 24/06/2020 07:55

I am very glad the daily briefings are over though, although I would have thought moving to a weekly announcement would have given out a better message. It is a bit F coronavirus I'm off to sort out Brexit now.

Teateaandmoretea · 24/06/2020 07:55

@rookiemere I don’t think it’s that organised. It’s about what the politicians want back and which sectors have lobbied most effectively. No more or less.

BogRollBOGOF · 24/06/2020 08:04

The fundamental structure of our lives will remain unchanged until DH goes back to the office and DCs back to school, so still looking like September 2.5 months away.

My structuŕe comes from things like volunteering at school, youth groups and parkrun so depending on if school.are doing bubbles or real normal it could well be longer.

My concern about extra curriculars is that they mix up school communities and spreas out local areas so could potentially take longer to reinstate as I'm assuming a period of schools only to prove that they won't trigger the 10th second wave (I think BLM protests are the 8th so pubs will be the 9th?) I suspect running races are down the bottom of the pile as mass events. I'm supposed to have a couple of local ones in November where the waves can be reduced and managed. Very different to VLM or GNR!

At least July to August there will be more fun things to do with the family to break up the tedium of groundhog day, but still definitely not normality.

I am more cautious about the autumn but that's more reason to get out and live in the summer months, not waste a whole precious year until next spring. My defence is that I have been more cautious about the autumn since well before the Dementors were frothing about VE Day Congas; whenever it was that it became clear that the virus favours cool and damp conditions. I suspect that there will be localised isolations and conservative policies about coughs and illness. I think disruption is likely, but national lockdowns nearly as likely as catching the virus off a gate or bench or climbing frame.
