Here's a new thread for discussing aircon, aubergines, and Goth music.

Hurrah! We'll be able to have the grandparents over. Presumably the ferries will let them on (they're only for "essential" journeys right now).

Spudlet · 23/06/2020 15:39

Omg, I’m not going to cry. But I might when I see my mum again 😭 And also possibly the first time I take DS to a playground and a coffee shop. It’s going to be a soggy experience all round.

Also, I just spoke to DS’s reception teacher who sounds lovely, and had a good chat... I was not the only forgetful eejit and she’s sending me the slides from her PowerPoint with some notes. It sounds as though they’ll be doing a lot of the transition stuff they’d usually be doing now in September, so teddy bears’ picnics on the school field and so on, and extending the part time bit for a couple of weeks to get them settled. Going to a PITA for working parents but it should work for the kids which is the main thing 👍

But omg, playgrounds! And seeing the family again. I hardly dare believe it 😳

BarkandCheese · 23/06/2020 15:39

@Blobby10

I just hugged my dad!!!!! It was wonderful. We work together but he's not been into the factory since 14 Feb due to mum being very ill and then the covid stuff. he's 75 and as fit as a fiddle but has been shielding to protect mum. He just came down to work to fetch something and opened his arms for a hug - I teared up! x
That’s lovely.
Pleasedontdothat · 23/06/2020 15:43

Yay - DD’s got her weekend job back

And I’ve been invited to a birthday sort of party on Saturday - double yay 😀

I can almost forgive the guardian for a classic bit of dementoring:

‘A further 46 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in English hospitals, NHS England has said. It brings the total number of confirmed reported deaths in that setting to 28,384.

The patients were aged between 51 and 97. Two of them, aged 84 and 87, had no known underlying health conditions.’

Firstly, that ignores the fact that 44 people did have underlying health conditions and .. 84 and 87??Hmm

trappedsincesundaymorn · 23/06/2020 15:45

Yesssss DD can come visit and stay over. I admit I may have cried a river of happy tears. I've not physically seen her since January 10th and Roolz or no roolz, she is going to get the biggest squishiest hug I can muster the minute her foot steps over the threshold.

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 23/06/2020 15:47

May I be dementory for a second (sorry) or maybe just cynical? and say the reason they are saying from the 4th July (England) rather than immediately is because everyone will be doing it from now anyway and the rates will be going back up by then and they can U turn and wriggle out of it with a sorry and a Boris speech with a firm voice and lots of pauses eg "well we always said we would be guided by the science and so we would not hesitate to ask for more sacrifices to protect our country and the NHS and vulnerable people. We are not afraid to take decisive action if it is the right thing to do..." blah blah fucking blah...

Anyway, in anti dementory news Grin I have been to Marks and Spencer and justified this selfish shocking breaking of shielding behaviour Wink because I had a slightly terrifying thought - as my DC are back out in the world, if I did catch it from them in the home and sadly died they would feel guilty forever Wink So if they know I went to the shops they could blame it on me instead Grin I hope they appreciate this self sacrificing unselfish behaviour on my part!

Plus...CAKE!

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 23/06/2020 15:49

Ooooh lots of alliteration there! I am truly a genius and clearly my DCs should get As not happening sadly

AnxiousElephant77 · 23/06/2020 15:51

What a cheerful post Grin

Ibake · 23/06/2020 15:52

Gosh, look at us happy lot. I'm so enjoying reading these posts, especially the school ones.

@bakingcupcakes, the GP saga continues. Rang again to ask for triage appt this afternoon. Apparently they're now using a signposting system and she told me I needed to go to the pharmacist as it could be conjunctivitis and they're not currently seeing people for that. Bit my lip re saying 'what are you actually seeing people for right now' and instead say 'it's not conjunctivitis'. Her response to me was a very snippy 'sorry, are you a GP'. Anyway, complaint gone in to practice manager who was appalled that she said that to me and GP calling DS this afternoon. Anyway, I shall not let this detract me from my otherwise good mood!

BogRollBOGOF · 23/06/2020 15:54

My DCs have their lessons at a public leisure centre. All along they've been posting snippets of their plans for Covis-Safe reopening.

I'm perfectly happy to send my DCs back to lessons whenever, but there is the logistical glitch that with a 4pm and 5:30pm lesson, we spend a long time on site with nowhere else to go. Casual splash type stuff could be awkward (I seem to have been trying to pioneer social distancing forever with unobservant kids that just crash around the pool, but laned swimming is practical to reinstate and often valuable to people of poor mobility who struggle with most forms of exercise.

Gyms I can manage without. I'm back with my instructor outside in a small group (got that again this evening Grin ) and I've been building exercises into my runs.

iamapixie · 23/06/2020 15:55

@Pleasedontdothat
Ah but no one in their 80s ever died pre-Covid...
It really does feel like some people haven't realised until now that we are mortal.
And the point upthread about old people dying of dementia due to loneliness: so true. There have been a number of studies about loneliness in old people and the effect on physical as well as mental health. But, again, as long as we save the elderly from Covid, our work is done.
My mum has gone so downhill. I actually really hate seeing her at the moment (I did breach lockdown to start occasionally visiting) as she can't keep a thought in her head before asking the same question again and again.
I know another pp mentioned the same kind of thing and I also know it's 'anecdata' but it's obvious anecdata really that this would be a shit show for the old whom, as a society, we infantilise anyway, and have infantilised even more, cos, u know,Covid.
BUT yay re schools!!!! (sorry for rant - too close to my heart)

Orangeblossom78 · 23/06/2020 15:58

Ibake does your DC get hay fever, as can get red eyes with that I have found. Just asking as the pollen is meant to be very high this week. Apologies if not but just a thought. My DS had quite red eyes with his a few weeks ago.

Drivingdownthe101 · 23/06/2020 16:04

171 deaths today... first sub 200 on a Tuesday for a long time!

Teateaandmoretea · 23/06/2020 16:07

And more importantly only 850 positive cases

Orangeblossom78 · 23/06/2020 16:07

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed that parents in England will be able to ask friends and family to help with childcare under the changes which come into force on 4 July.

He also said "wrap-around care" for school-age children - meaning care for children before and after school - and formal childcare will "restart over the summer".

And he repeated his promise to reopen schools fully in the next academic year, saying: "Primary and secondary education will recommence in September with full attendance and those children who can already go to school should do so because it is safe."

From BBC online

Orangeblossom78 · 23/06/2020 16:08

That will be a relief for working parents

Teateaandmoretea · 23/06/2020 16:08

I meant obviously in relation to the contraction of the epidemic. The deaths are clearly important (I’m sounding like Matt Hancock) 🤦🏻‍♀️

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 23/06/2020 16:09

@Pleasedontdothat I’d left home when my mum told me to sit down as there was “shocking news” about the old man next door. 91 isn’t a massive shock imo...

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 23/06/2020 16:12

@Orangeblossom78 I missed that. You've made me cry again. Just need it to translate to wales and we're sorted! Childcare. Holiday clubs. I've gone again. 😭😭😭

Ibake · 23/06/2020 16:13

@Orangeblossom78 it's not hay fever. My non educated guess is fungal or some such. He's had it for several weeks now, just really dry red and scaly all around the eye but not on the eye. 10-1 he gets a prescription for fucidin (but remember, I'm not a GP!)

glotterbug · 23/06/2020 16:13

Such great news today! Thinking this must make wales think 'oh let's give it a try too'.

God I hope, my dds are desperate for some nannie and grandad time (and me time for me!).

littlbrowndog · 23/06/2020 16:15

Schools Scotland. 💃💃💃💃💃💃💃🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐

Yeahhhhhhhhhh

Orangeblossom78 · 23/06/2020 16:17

Ibake some of the GPs have a new thing where you can let them see a photo. Ours do an app. There us an eye hospital in the next city here I was sent there once when as a baby the DC nicked my eye with their baby claws! So may be that option too. Hope you get it sorted ok, sounds painful Flowers

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 23/06/2020 16:18

ibake my eldest has similar and our optometrist is fab and can prescribe too. I think it’s called blepharitis and he advises the lume care eyelid wipes either from him - or more recently amazon. (It’s a grubby little child problem 😳)

justasking111 · 23/06/2020 16:20

171 deaths means 115 outside hospital settings in England. This really does need more publicity, England slip the extra numbers in every day, it was 56 in the UK earlier.

Please god Wales wake up and start easing more. Have to say though no rush to the shops here with long queues which is concerning for retail sector in Wales. I suspect we are more interested in park playgrounds and outside hospitality.
