Even in the frosty winter I'm hot, always hot. In the summer I'm just a little cooler than a blast furnace. I go out with my DH on a summers day and he always turns to me while my face is scarlet and hair dripping with sweat and says " Isn't it a lovely day! "

Can we throw snowballs at @Toilenstripes until she stops?

Grin
Toilenstripes · 24/06/2020 15:31

Sorry! I’m currently sitting in front of a fan! 😆

PhoneLock · 24/06/2020 15:34

I wonder if hating summer is a British thing?

Yes, that's why millions of us pay thousands to flock to places where sun, warmth and no rain can be guaranteed for a few weeks every year.

SimplySteveRedux · 24/06/2020 16:11

I suffer from hyperhidrosis and summer is utter shit for me. I can also have sweat dripping off me in negative winter temperatures. It's horrible.

Puppybum · 24/06/2020 16:12

There's a big difference between not enjoying the summer and not being able to cope with the summer

I've always been cold, then i turned 50 and wow I'm boiling hot now. If I get hot from doing something in the sun, I can be damn sure I get a hot flush in combination.

Still love the warm weather though, just not very nice to have sweat dripping from the hair or underboob 😳.

As am I. And I'm glaring at the digital temperature display that tells me it's 30 fucking degrees in here, despite all the measures to stop the sun heating up the house directly through the south-southeast facing windows. And the shining bastard has now made it round to the other side, so it's heating up on the north-northwest side now.

Christ help me when I hit menopause.

We need to save up for an aircon unit.

MotherofPearl · 24/06/2020 18:38

I wonder if hating summer is a British thing?

Nope. I have lived in the UK for a long time but originate from a 'hot country'. I've always hated heat.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 24/06/2020 21:00

The hot spell earlier this year was actually the first time I’ve ever enjoyed British heat - it wasn’t humid, there was a lovely breeze, I did not feel the urge to peel my skin off and dunk it in a vat of freezing water...

This, however, sucks. Spent the day working, pouring sweat while standing still, never mind running around, lightheaded, headachy and listening to customers tell me how beautiful it is. No. No it’s not. And if one more person tells me it is, I will rip through that Covid screen and head for the jugular.

Now in front of a fan with Gin and ice. And still too fucking hot 🤬

Delatron · 24/06/2020 21:48

Hating summer is not a British thing. Never met anyone in real life who hates summer..

It’s a Mumsnet thing!

Starksforthewin · 24/06/2020 21:56

Really, Delatron? I am in the south east and I know heaps of people who hate this weather, we form a support group for one another!

One of my friends has her master bedroom in the loft room, which may as well double up as her oven. You could roast a bloody chicken in there. She tells me it is 40 degrees, even with skylights open trying to get a breeze.

We saved up for an aircon unit about ten years ago. I swear it’s the best £2k I’ve ever spent on the house. I would be committing murder without it. It is in our bedroom, but if we leave all the doors open upstairs you can feel it throughout. It means some sleep is possible.

Ritascornershop · 25/06/2020 01:06

I’ve found my chilly people! I agree, anything over 20 is too hot. 12-14 is about ideal. I can’t sleep, I walk to work and arrive dripping sweat (wearing linen and cotton). There is no escape. I also don’t like the monotony of the endless sunshine. Boring! A bit of rain now and then wouldn’t hurt (I’m on the west coast of Canada, pretty similar weather to southern England, but drier summers here). Hate summer clothes, not being able to drink tea without getting overheated, having to wear everything just the once before washing (handwashable shirts/blouses I mean).

July is especially dreadful. From mid-August at least it’s cool till 9;00am or so.

Ritascornershop · 25/06/2020 01:15

And yes, why do the weather people insist it’s gorgeous weather? It’s like mass hypnosis.

I always thought it was my Scots and Irish genes complaining but my workmate who is from Nigeria hates it too, she says the summer is evil and is looking forward to autumn again.

I do wonder why some of us hate summer and others (like my sister) spend winter complaining about the (not really very) cold.

Sonichu · 25/06/2020 01:31

"Never met anyone in real life who hates summer.."

You don't know many people I take it?

avamiah · 25/06/2020 01:43

I’m in London and it’s boiling now ( well really hot and humid ) , up watching tv with a fan on but I’ve decided that this fan is rubbish as I can’t even hear the Tv .🙁
Too hot

Delatron · 25/06/2020 07:19

I know loads of people 🙄. Having friends over tonight to sit out in the garden and enjoy this lovely weather! Also been enjoying swimming in the lake, picnics. Nobody moaning here. Must hang out with a different type of person!

jamdonut · 25/06/2020 08:30

I absolutely am with you on this!
My glasses steam up with sweat and if I move a bit I break out into beads of sweat rolling down from my forehead!

I started carrying a good old- fashioned fan ( the type you open out and waft!) in my handbag, and I will unashamedly sit and waft myself with it, even in pubs and restaurants - ( when we were allowed such luxury!) . Well it beats using their menus/ cocktail price lists !!
I noticed a few other women doing this ( last summer) and it was like we became kindred spirits ; we acknowledged each other with knowing smiles....😊😂

Flyinggeese · 25/06/2020 13:07

Can't stand it. Yesterday BBC weather said storms, heavy rain and 5 degrees cooler forecast for today. None of that has happened. Forecast now for tomorrow instead. Here's hoping.

MotherofPearl · 25/06/2020 14:01

Hope everyone is coping okay today. I'm finding it pretty awful. Really uncomfortable and lethargic.

I'm making an iced water bottle for bed this evening.

GADDay · 25/06/2020 14:10

This thread makes me want to week. I really dislike hot weather. We chose to move to Queensland - every summer I get to breaking point when it can go months without dropping below 30 in the day and 24 at night with 90% humidity. I bloody hate the heat!!!

GADDay · 25/06/2020 14:10

weeP

DollyPartons · 25/06/2020 14:35

I'm on lockdown from heatwave.

BarbedBloom · 25/06/2020 15:11

I am in the north facing bedroom with the curtains closed. I spent yesterday in bed with a headache, heat rash and an RA flare. My RA always flares in the heat and leaves me bedridden. Bloody hayfever tablets aren't working either.

I cannot cope in the summer. I have friends who love the heat but after seeing the state of me in the heat they totally understand and are very sympathetic. I also do know several people who hate the summer as much as I do and we complain together on whatsapp.

Yes some people prefer it cooler but some genuinely cannot function in heat. I never go abroad in the summer. My last trip to Greece was in October and we spent our honeymoon in Tenby in November.

Livpool · 25/06/2020 15:12

I understand how people can not enjoy hot weather but in the UK we get about 4 weeks of hot (I say nice but we can disagree) so surely that's ok when the remaining 48 are either cool or wet
