Things Aldi don't sell

Greece proof/baking paper

Why don't they sell it?

Why not sell it all the time?!

Because some things eg: rinse aid are not a weekly need for most people, so turnover is low. It’s not perishable, so regular shoppers can get it when it’s in. It makes no sense to the budget supermarket model to stock it permanently.

Longdistance · 20/06/2020 21:39

@GreyGardens88 what don’t Lidl sell? I’ll check my cupboards.

Somanysocks · 20/06/2020 21:40

Nice bread.

BurtsBeesKnees · 20/06/2020 21:41

Tooth picks
Lazy garlic or ginger, but I've seen lazy chilli there
Cif or an Aldi equivalent

nowaitaminute · 20/06/2020 21:43

I'm in Ireland and my Aldi stocks everything really...everything named on this thread apart from the grapefruit juice maybe. 🤷‍♀️

Kaffiene · 20/06/2020 21:44

Marmite! I have to remember to pick it up in Lidl. Neither sell breadsticks or risotto rice here. Have to go to Tesco for that.

AnnaBegins · 20/06/2020 21:47

Toothpicks and dental floss just don't sell. They're bought too infrequently to hit the required numbers. And too low a price point for a specialbuy.

Aldi don't sell condoms because the Albrecht family don't think it's appropriate. Durex offered to supply a 2 region trial for free for 3 months and Aldi turned them down.

Insider info there Grin

PigletJohn · 20/06/2020 22:18

Good ketchup

firstimemamma · 20/06/2020 22:20

@PleasantVille oh wow, you're lucky! My Aldi sells little chorizo slices but they were not well received in my house!!

PigletJohn · 20/06/2020 22:20

and all their steaks are vacuum packed, which spoils the taste. Like liver. Lidl do the same.

mylittlesandwich · 20/06/2020 22:21

@nowaitaminute I went into an Aldi in Dublin and it had so many things! It was brilliant.

Sandybval · 20/06/2020 22:23

Fruit and veg that doesn't go off within 24 hours.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/06/2020 22:25

They sell all in one dishwasher tablets, so you don't need to buy three separate products.

Just about all the products mentioned, which they do sell most of anyway, are non perishable, so you can always buy a couple of months worth from another supermarket.

It's worth having to go to another supermarket every once in a while, for the significant savings you get from doing most of your shopping in Aldi.

If you went to Tesco etc for everything, you'd probably spend quite a bit more.

Starlightstarbright1 · 20/06/2020 22:28

@TheBabyAteMyBrain

Pesto, Breadcrumbs, breadsticks, filo pastry.
They stopped selling breadsticks at ours but restarted. They now sell pesto too
Sarahplane · 20/06/2020 22:39

pregnancy tests

Ginandbearit1 · 20/06/2020 22:55

They dont sell tofu/quorn/veggie/vegan options. I find the stock quite hit and miss tbh, the fruit and veg a bit crap too.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 20/06/2020 22:57

Sprouts!

Gulsink · 20/06/2020 23:28

Lidl don't sell ginger beer.

makewaymakeway · 20/06/2020 23:39

Kids pasta shapes in a tin like the Heinz peppa pig ones!

AWaspOnAWindowReturns · 20/06/2020 23:50

@AllIHearIs why would you want thin bleach? I didn't even know this was a thing. Only ever bought thick bleach in my 20 years of buying bleach.

nowaitaminute · 21/06/2020 00:01

I'm literally Shock as I said upthread I'm in Ireland and I shop at Aldi (and lidl) and they literally have everything!! Im sure I've seen tofu at one of them and I think it was Aldi!!

And the fruit and veg is great here....

Butterflytown · 21/06/2020 00:13

Rinse aid and dishwasher salt, and fresh bread. They also randomly run out/ stop selling things for a few months before starting again. Last year they didn’t have any pesto for weeks on end, then stopped selling their own brand small tins of sweetcorn (sold green giant for a while instead) and were continually out of kidney beans. First world problems hey! Werkly shop is so much cheaper at aldi though- have shopped there for the last 3 years but since lockdown have been getting Tesco/ Morrisons/ sainsburys deliveries (shielding household) and we’re spending loads more even when you discount the extra food for lunches at home rather than at work. I miss aldi, and ediecislly the random items in the middle aisle!

firstimemamma · 21/06/2020 05:28

Vegetarian gravy!

I asked a member if staff and she told me "I'd have to use vegetable stock instead" erm no thanks!

BahHumbygge · 21/06/2020 08:25

Gluten free bread
Sardines/mackerel in olive oil
Cheap own brand toothpaste
Tinned soups/stews/curry without gluten
Lard

Whereland · 21/06/2020 09:15

@nowaitaminute I'm in Ireland too, the grapefruit juice is the only thing out of all the things mentioned here that I haven't seen in Aldi! They seemed to be much better stocked in ireland for some reason. My sister lives in France and said that Lidl and Aldi are completely crap there
