Greece proof/baking paper

Why don't they sell it?

@Ginandbearit1

Mine sells Quorn products and vegetarian and vegan food. This range is always increasing too.

lastqueenofscotland · 21/06/2020 13:22

Ours sells pesto

Never tofu or harissa

PuppyMonkey · 21/06/2020 13:37

The main things I have to go to other shops for are:

Linda McCartney veggie stuff
Risotto rice
Bovril
Fry’s chocolate cream
Fairy wash powder
Dog food as the dog has Royal Canin
Cat food as the cat won’t eat Aldi’s Grin

Deathraystare · 21/06/2020 14:27

Fry’s chocolate cream

Do you buy it in Poundland? I get mine there.

Kez200 · 21/06/2020 14:35

Fresh bread. Medicine/first aid beyond the very basics. Premium gins.

About the only things I shop elsewhere for on a regular basis.

LynetteScavo · 21/06/2020 15:44

@firsttimemamma - were you looking for vegetarian or vegetable gravy? I hate to tell you this, but many gravy granules are vegetarian, and some are vegan.

Ours doesn't have decent bread. I wish they had a bakery like Lidl.
Otherwise I think they're great. Ours has most of what is mentioned as being missing, like pesto and grease proof

Redbrook · 21/06/2020 16:23

Gluten free bread/pasta/breakfast cereal/biscuits.
I emailed them once to question their lack of GF produce, and they told me they did sell GF items and they sent me a list to prove it. It consisted of things like cucumber, tomato purée and rice. No mention of basics like GF pasta !

Witchofzog · 21/06/2020 16:54

The lazy garlic and ginger is near the spices rather than near the sauces like most places. I have both from Aldi

cobblers123 · 21/06/2020 17:17

I like both stores as they each have products that the other doesn't have but Lidl probably comes out ahead due to the bakery. Cakes and bread are lovely, good selection of both plus some savoury products as well. If they started doing sausage rolls as well I might just move in there.

If Aldi had an in-store bakery, then it might well push them into 1st place.

Aldi staff are much nicer than my local Lidl though. The really nice, friendly ones in Lidl always move on fairly quickly leaving the miserable ones who barely grunt at you behind.

PigletJohn · 21/06/2020 17:52

in my town, bread is good, and croissants etc from Aldi.

The Lidl is even better, they have a self-service display of (not wrapped) croissants, pastries, mini-quiche, rolls and doughnuts that gets replenished hot during the day. I expect they're delivered chilled ready for baking. They're better for that than my local Tesco, which has instore bakery. Cakes are all factory-made.

PigletJohn · 21/06/2020 17:53

And although Aldi doesn't sell a good ketchup, Lidl sells a luxury line which is top-notch.

birthdaybelle · 21/06/2020 17:53

Capers or risotto rice

Gwynfluff · 21/06/2020 18:07

In terms of having different stock in different countries, they tailor to the market. They were surprised how much fresh fruit/veg and Meat the British market wanted to buy (more was bought locally in specialist stores in the countries they started off in.

Gluten free bread/pasta/breakfast cereal/biscuits.
I emailed them once to question their lack of GF produce, and they told me they did sell GF items

Every few months they have a GF special and have Gf products. So not a regular stock. But a lot of their products like crisips, sausages, deli stuff is GF unlike other places.

Longdistance · 21/06/2020 22:04

Lidl’s sells the Deluxe ketchup which is thick and sweet. It tastes like the original Heinz ketchup before they took the sugar content out.
I feel like I need to see my dentist after eating it 🦷 Blush

PigletJohn · 21/06/2020 22:20

I get the Lidl deluxe ketchp when I see it. It's on a part with the Tiptree one which is (I just checked) £ 2.30 for a 310g bottle (£0.74/100g) at Tesco.

The Lidl one is not the same, but also matches my standards. It's 280g. I can't find the price just now.

formerbabe · 21/06/2020 22:22

As soon as I saw the title I thought greaseproof or baking paper!

AgeLikeWine · 21/06/2020 22:35

Decent beer, which is surprising for a German supermarket. They should offer a fantastic range of interesting German brews, but their range is limited & boring.

Sew3stitch · 29/06/2020 21:44

Just coming back onto this thread to say my local Aldi had baking paper at the weekend! Complete with "new" label so looks like regular stock now and not a special buy. Hope it appears in other stores soon for those who mentioned it.

LynetteScavo · 13/09/2020 07:03

Yes, we now have baking paper! Smile
