mascotte kat Von d liquid. Needs to be taken off with a welding torch. You can’t tell anyone you’re buying kat Von d though because she’s an anti-vaxxer and therefore you’ll absorb her opinions every time you wear it.

Nihiloxica · 22/06/2020 16:23

My ex husband used to have a little clique that he palled around with. (He was a goth - far as I know he still is...) He wanted to buy t-shirts for all his clique that said "You laugh at me because I'm different...I laugh at you because you're all the same"

GrinGrin

I used to have some fun with a cute Goth boy who fancied me as a teenager.

"So I'm wearing brown jeans and a grey top, those are pretty gloomy colours. Does that mean I'm like semi-Goth?"

But he introduced me to the Sisters of Mercy, so I will always remember him for that.

Does anyone else really want a caterpillar cake now?

Orangeblossom78 · 22/06/2020 16:25

Oh yes food is a Vice also.

Mascotte · 22/06/2020 16:25

Ooh, @InsaneInTheViralMembrane an actual murdering lipstick! Thank you, off to find, order, and murder

Spudlet · 22/06/2020 16:26

@nihiloxica. YES. Caterpillar cake... 🤤

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane TWO radishes? Two? I don’t know how you got all that in, I can barely fit in half before I’m full for the whole day 😇

CruCru · 22/06/2020 16:27

Hmm. I’m going to check out Sisters of Mercy. I thought of Leonard Cohen but that probably isn’t what you mean.

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/06/2020 16:27

2 radishes? Do you know how much sugar there is in a radish?!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 22/06/2020 16:28

I think Debenhams are the only UK stockists - and the dementors have had the range reduced. Every lipstick came with an affidavit you had to sign saying you’d promise not to vaccinate. Such a tangled web. Vegan = good. Anti-vaxxer = bad.

NannyPhlegm · 22/06/2020 16:30

Every lipstick came with an affidavit you had to sign saying you’d promise not to vaccinate.

Forgive me, I'm not certain if you're joking or not. But I'm pissing myself at the thought of doing worthy paperwork to buy a lipstick
Can you elaborate on this?

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 22/06/2020 16:31

"Goths are the poster children for conformity.
Counter cultural conformity is still conformity."

Well, aren't you a little ray of fucking darkness? Grin

I used to love the Jesus and Mary Chain

I really really really want a caterpillar cake now. A whole big one, not the mini ones.
Do I really think it's the time for luxuries at a time like this though? I mean, it's not exactly essential travel is it? I'm not sure what part of global pandemic I don't understand. My selfish actions would mean I was needlessly risking the lives of people who have been abiding by the rules. Just for a cake. Wow.

PS I'm so disappointed Kat Von D turned out to be a dick. I also heard rumours of anti semitism which surprised me as she was married to the delectable Oliver Peck. Her make up range is really good isn't it, I really rate her eyeliner. I also recommend her tattoo cover up cream for people covering up tattoos for interviews etc.

dkl55 · 22/06/2020 16:32

I've bought Kat Von d (evil me) from boots and amazon as well as Debenhams. Just check the amazon price as it's sometimes inflated.

dkl55 · 22/06/2020 16:33

...and it's the eyeliner (tattoo liner) I rated too! I changed to the fenty one though which is actually as nice/better.

MagdaS · 22/06/2020 16:37

I fucking love the Sisters of Mercy.

I was a wannabe teenage Goth, but as my mum didn’t let me dye my hair, not a very effective one.

I have dyed it purple in lockdown, having waited 25 years for this moment.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/06/2020 16:46

@Worldgonecrazy

With regard to uniformity and conformity is that for anyone under the age of 30 there is nothing to rebel against.

Sex - their grandparents were the swinging sixties and free love of the pre-AIDS era.

Drugs - grandparents did weed, their parents did the ecstasy coke and raves

Goths and punks - ditto above

Maybe conformity IS their rebellion?

Mine announced at 15 that she wasn't going to do any of that because "that's what people expect me to do, (we were a low income, single parent, social housing family). I'm going to uni so they can shove that up their judgemental bumholes!!!"

Never have I been so proud of raising a non-conforming rebel Grin

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 22/06/2020 16:50

nannyphlegm definitely joking! But the way people react over a lipstick. Anyone would think you need to be a virgin to fly to Barbados these days with the b&w literal comprehension.

Dowser · 22/06/2020 16:55

The highlighted hair?
Anyone know a good divorce lawyer?
Oh yes, I do
The one that took the last husband to the cleaners 😂

Not only will my third husband be a gardener, diyourselfer, he will also be a hairdresser as well as all the usual stuff..Naturally 😂

SeagoingSexpot · 22/06/2020 16:56

I used to hang out with the goths a bit as a teen without really being one. My best friend was and they were fun to talk to Grin I enjoyed some of the fashion choices - I went through a brief phase of combining children's Hello Kitty and anime t-shirts with black pleather couldn't afford real leather and knee-high lace-up steel toecap boots. Tragically, I was ruled out from true Gothitude by being too cheery and an inability to like the music. Grin

NothingIsWrong · 22/06/2020 16:56

I am completely boss eyed from a day of AutoCAD work, but the numbers for today are so encouraging.

Another thing on the (long long long) list of things I hate about this place is the way that "bad" statistics are seized upon with glee and flaunted as an example of how awful "other people" are (but not us, we are perfect and following all the rules) and then "good" statistics are an example of the government lying to us to manipulate us.

Allflightscancelled · 22/06/2020 17:00

Best Sisters of Mercy track?

For me, it's probably Ribbons. Best heard loud, through headphones. Trust me on this one

Shodan · 22/06/2020 17:01

and an inability to like the music.

I attempted Gothism in my teens.

I wore black and dark grey everything, got confused and added studded belts (the ones you wore rakishly over the hips) and sticky-uppy hair (may have been channelling punk there) but gave up when it came to Mournful Music.

Much preferred a nice bit of ABBA or the Bee Gees Grin

Ibake · 22/06/2020 17:02

Oh no @dowser. Focus on his other good points. You've told us loads of them over the last few weeks. Ok so he can neither be trusted with colloidal silver (get me, had never even heard of that until I met you) and highlights but remember, he's your even keel and you love him! Ps pics?!Grin

Nihiloxica · 22/06/2020 17:02

First and Last and Always

HesterShaw1 · 22/06/2020 17:04

I've just enjoyed a shopping trip to B&M. Talk about an oxymoron.

Bumped into the wife of a friend who owns a B&B - she is One Of Us!! We chatted in the aisle for ages, but oh! the LOOKS we got! 😂😂🤭 We weren't doing anything bad...we crammed ourselves to be sids, weren't in anyone's way, stated 2m(ish) apart, but we were quite loud with our chat and laughter. But it was clearly extremely offensive behaviour.

Twas very refreshing.

My last gig before the lockdown was the Levellers. It's a precious memory. It was full of sweaty shouty singing aging crusties...I imagine the murder rate was fairly high.

HesterShaw1 · 22/06/2020 17:05

excuse the typos

BogRollBOGOF · 22/06/2020 17:09

I never did conformity to social groups. I was never the "trendy/ townie" nor the "grunge/ rocker" which were the two tribes at school and into uni. I was accepted by the grungy rockers into their fringes, and then found my "tribe" in a university club where Gortex was the must-have clothing. We all ended up marrying each other and now there's a whole new generation spawned Grin We were all pretty eccentric in our own ways.

I never did understand the mentality of doing everything the same as your friends and am somwehere between Luna Lovegood and Hermione Granger in social skills.
