Which it is ,a surprise ,he says things will be open ,with social distancing in place .
I’d of thought if things weren’t open ,he wouldn’t of been able to book.

We’re due to be there as soon as schools break up in July, in a relative’s empty place (we are a Cornish family) so not a holiday property as such. It all depends on the rules changing over being able to stay away from home overnight (and we want to take OH’s daughter which I think will be ok as she has been staying regularly throughout lockdown as the rules allow).

There is a vocal minority in Cornwall who make it seem unwelcoming at the moment, but it’s an area that survives on tourism - they need people to be allowed to start to visit, with sensible precautions. I have no worries about going, but I would go home if I started to feel unwell rather than potentially burden their relatively stretched NHS.

I don’t want to make local people feel bad with us being there ,we could cancel,just not sure what to do

I'm in Cornwall, not a lot is open I'm afraid. You'll be fine if the weather is nice because you can go to the beach, but if it's raining you'll be bored. It's been raining for a few weeks now and we're bored stiff! Places like Eden have some outdoor areas open, but nowhere near the full experience - think a walk around outside the biomes and an ice cream.

@Fallulah is totally right that some people are very, very vocal about not wanting tourists here, but actually there are people who want to get things going. There are some cafes etc. open now offering smaller selections of takeaway food and they seem enthusiastic. I would say there are probably more people worried about the effects of loosing tourism and income, but those who don't want it shout louder.

It's tricky, I probably wouldn't want to travel all the way down here for it to rain and have nothing to do, but I guess it depends how far you'll be coming and what you'd do instead.

We’re going for 2 weeks on 21st July. I don’t really want to go but dh does. I’m not so bothered about angry locals as they’ll be in the vast minority but I am worried about no restaurants or cafes being open, long queues/waits for takeout food/supermarkets (the large Morrison’s is an absolute nightmare at the best of times in the summer) and being unable to social distance anywhere.

Also if the weathers bad what exactly are we supposed to do beside sit around the cottage? I can predict major moaning of being bored from the teens (even more than usual!)

The whole point of a holiday for me is being relaxed, looking in little shops, days out to places we wouldn’t usually be able to visit and most importantly EATING OUT! It’s going to be very different this year I’m sure of that.

I’m not sure we are doing the right thing going .we have dogs Coming ,so couldn’t go in cafes anyway .
We are still socially distancing at home ,so dh thinks we will do the same in Cornwall,just walk the dogs and chill on the beach

Too early. Lots of things will still be closed. Some opening just for locals initially.

We are all about the beaches, the walks and the rock pools and we’ve had so many summers of doing that in the rain I’m sure we’d be fine!

@istheresomethingwrongwithme do you know if outdoor things like paddle boarding, surf schools and the camel trail bike hire places are open or opening?

I would rather you didn't. And I work in the tourist industry in Cornwall.

As it stands you are meant to remain in your own home and not stay overnight elsewhere although that will change at some stage. I think that will be later in July though.

Does the economy not need to get going a bit and pick up

The BBC seem to have the date as 13th July for cottages etc to take bookings.

13th July seems to be for Wales.

Cornwall tourist guide says 4 July for places opening

4th July is just a provisional date. Your DH was able to book it because the owners hope people will be allowed to stay after then, but there’s no guarantees and the Culture Secretary warmed yesterday that date could be pushed back.

Even if that does go ahead, most places may remain closed and the ones that are open may be for locals only, not tourists/holidaymakers.

Yes, some places are operating on a locals-only basis. No tourists.

And surely you know that cottage owners don’t give a shit what’s open and what’s closed, right? They just want their money; they don’t care if you have nothing to do there.

Just hope that when the date is announced for UK holidays to be allowed that your DH has the ability to get his money back if it’s later than 4th July.

The alert level has gone down to 3, so assume this gives the green light for hotels, self catering, pubs etc.

Not being snipey and we have no intention of travelling to Cornwall. Always too busy in summer for us. I’m just intrigued how they manage this. Do they just think they will recognise locals?

In a lot of smaller places yes, they will know everyone in the village. In bigger places proof is required ie. a bill, membership card to a local place, just anything that proves you live local.

There is no law To say you have to be local to use the supermarket...I’ve never heard of people having to prove they are local to shop somewhere.
Can u link to this for me please ,if you are correct I will indeed rebook the holiday for a later date ,however we only need to use Sainsbury’s for food ,we don’t need anywhere else to serve us ,maybe a costa takeaway

To add to what istheresomethingwrongwithme said. The beaches are open but the loos attaches to the beaches aren't open. So plan your day out accordingly.

I think some of it also depends on whether come 4th July if it's everywhere open or just places with a beer garden.

Also come July 4th will you be able to spend the night somewhere other than your own home
